Nick, what tyres are they and what size? Which vehicle are they going on? Look like pretty serious semi-comps.

These are for the SS ... picked up some 18s from Paul (FatBoy) last weekend.
Tyres are Bridgestone RE55 ... 225/40/18 fronts + 245/40/18 rears. Dunc + Erik have given me heaps of advice recently to work out the best course to take in setting the SS up for a bit of track fun. They have used this combination for a while now and reckon it's on the money.
I can't wait to get out and give them a go, the semi comps I got for the Coupe 4 absolutely blew me away, and these are a far better tyre from what I've read. I couldn't get RE55s for the Coupe as they don't come in 19s and I need 19s to clear the brakes.
Now I just need to find some time to get down to Wakefield and try them out.

phew ... I was getting worried that there may have been a disturbance in the force & a week may have gone by where you hadn't bought something for one of your cars.
Thanks Nick, I'll sleep better tonight :yep:
:D :waving:
Nice BTW :yep: Scotty's mantel as the wheel king is being guzumped by the newly crowned tyre king.

useable as a street tyre?
Perhaps as a dedicated street tyre, technically they are probably maybe legalish - if not entirely legal.
But the problem is, if you use these tyres on the track as intended, they get roughed up a bit. Thereafter driving them on the road is a problem, the noise on the freeway is excruciating. I used to drive them to and from the track, and that was bad enough.

Stu ... about $425 a tyre (delivered from Adelaide to Sydney ... $410ish each without shipping).
Kym Davis tyres seems to be the best place to pick them up ... http://www.kymdavistyres.com.au/

They look like the perfect tyre for my SS. Great post!! :yep:
Nice choice Nick, you were there at EC werent you when I did the brake glowing trick EG 2.01 in the rain?
Well that was with RE55's that Dunc let me borrow.
Thats not a bad price shipped, still effing expensive but they stick like shite to a blanket mate :yep:
Now get to Wakey, its only one day man :whip:

Nicks, they're some awesome looking tyres especially for that sort of money.
What compund are they?
I've got some Dunlop DZ02G's for the Monaro but haven't really had the chance to give them a proper workout.
Mine are 235/40/18's all round in a hard compound.
I'm sticking mine on next week for Wakefield on the 31st.
They're road legal but the stiff sidewalls make for a harsh ride and they pick up and fling every loose rock on the road.

All the RE55's we are using (Duncan, Nick & I; not sure on Troy's) are SR compound... the harder one. I think the WT (softer) compound would not get through one full Wakefield open day... you'd destroy them. The WT would be great for a supersprint though, where every bit counts & longevity is not crucial.
Yep, Im using SR's also :yep:

Nick, Oops sorry, I mean Mr Wheel King,
Have you fitted a power steering cooler on the ss? The reason I ask is that it has been recommend to me to do prior running a few laps. I would an interested to know whether you can get a few laps out without one.
JB
Ill field this one oh mighty tyre king :lmao:
Yep Nick has a cooler and if it was summer then you would most definately need a cooler.
Winter you may be able to get away with it, maybe.

Thanks for the info Troy. We can't have the new Wheel King being disturbed can we.....:) :up2sum:
Looks like a cooler will have to go in then b4 attacking the track. I say attacking in a jesture type way as I am sure I will probably end up getting laped.

How long ago did you buy yours mate ? Duncan has bought about 4 sets of these, I think the first set was under $350 (might not have been) but the price has been going up every time. If you know of somewhere that sells them for $330 there are quite a few of us that would love to know where.

For the hundred or so dollars it would cost you to get one and fit it yourself using one of the excellent "How To" threads here on TC ... you'd be silly not to JB. :yep:
Dumping all the PS fluid at full noise due to boiling and blowing a hose off would be probably expensive and definitely scarey if sprayed onto the back wheels.
Says I who hasn't actually had his car on a track ... :headbang:

I actually asked that (sort of) when I ordered these, I tried to get a price drop by buying 2 sets but they said "that's as low as we can go".
Who knows, if you wanted 4 or 5 sets I'm sure they would do a deal in some way or other.

Not anymore Josh. RE55's used to be cheaper, but http://www.kymdavistyres.com.au is the cheapest in australia, even when paying shipping to sydney
They would be selling shite tins of these and I wonder what the mark up is. I have a mate at Bridgestone, I might ask him to find out the cost price.
I wonder is they would do a bulk order, like 10 set for a per tyre discount?
Troy :)

If you need others to agree for a group buy you can count me in.
My Dunlop DZ02G's cost double the price of what you guys are talking.
They look like a great tyre as well.
