Update No. 1 from Scat ...
John's out on the track now, car looks really strong. Obviously has plenty of grunt judging by the smoke from the back wheels !!!

Update No. 2 from Scat ...
They are heading off to Sutton shortly. John has had a great start, his only mistake was lighting up the rears across the entire top of the hill climb !!!
Justice has just had a run and the yellow CHE GTS sounds nuts with dump pipes coming out each side of the car.
Thanks for the updates Scat and Nick.
I thought the new power would take a bit of getting used to :yep:

Our man is going really well!
results for day 1 are up:
http://www.duttonrally.com/res-07nsw.php
Car 4 John Healey
Car 11 Darren Park (Justice)
Car 39 Nathan Buckley
Mark Berry's old GTR appears the car to beat again. I don't know how much power it makes, but times for 800 m sprint are interesting (remembering Justice probably has 500 odd rwHp).
Pos 1 Berry 17.7 sec
Pos 25 Justice 22.2
Pos 48 Healey 23.8
Justice has some great results on the skidpan (inc a 10th position in event 12), John was 22nd in this event, still a great result.

All going well guys. Johns ute is a nice bit of work. Idles nice and smooth and goes well too, well done to Sonny and the boys. Nathans car sounds like a top doorslammer at idle. Says its only got a 224 228 aqt 112. Sounds like a 242 at 106. Having good fun though.
We are all getting our asses whipped by the MX5 Bullit. It is a rocket.
Having shitty little problems with some electrical stuff I did myself. Fans kept blowing fuses so I kept putting bigger fuses until the 1 fan motor burnt out so the engine was boiling its heart out a fair bit of friday. Cut the dud fan out and ran on one fan which was ok. Changed them both last night. Also having trouble with 3rd gear. Just wont go in. Seems to be hitting the gate. In the airport run, 1 run I went 1st, 2nd, 5th, 1st, 3rd then 4th which is pissing me off no end. The boys are deciding whether to do a gearbox change or go to dinner. I voted dinner as we are never going to catch the bullet no matter how many gears I have.
BTW. John has got a busted foot which wouldnt be helping him.

nathans car definatly only has a 224/228/112, i have the cam card sitting here on my desk..
he wanted it to idle lumpy so thats what he got! the exhaust dosent do the idle sound any favours, the 2 tiny mufflers that are on it dont cut the sound or pluses out very well,
once the other exhaust goes back on it will get a tune for every day driving with a lot smoother idle...
Mark boxer was saying that MX5 is a rocket ship as well..
Yeah it (bullit) was owning in their class! Lovely car indeed :)
I didnt realise who justice was until this afternoon, He got out of the car at sutton rd complex at lunch on Sat, Nearly fell on the bitumen, complaining of an 'uncomfortable ride' from wakefield to Queanbeyan!
Nice to meet you mate! :)
Awesome weekend! A+++ will go again :D
John's car loved to smoke 'em up, Boxers car was a weapon, The clubby was so freakin tough, esp. with bates behind the wheel this afternoon!
So many highlights, so little time to post :(

Great snaps Aeron.
Too bad you weren't at Eastern Creek when Troy was last there... a side shot like John's ute would have revealed Troy's front AND rear rotors glowing bright orange, & that was during the day, on a damp track  . No word of a lie.

Well fella's, an effort to be proud of:
Darren, 2nd in Class, 12th o'all
John, 5th in Class, 30th o'all
Nathan, 6th in Class, 33rd o'all.
I see Darren's become quite the quarter miler with his last attempt a 12.39 off a 0.050 R/T! (it got him 6th in E/T and 3rd in R/T). Well done Darren!
Both Darren's and John's Eastern Creek lap times are pretty awesome, times and results are particularly good when you have a look at the class of car (and budgets!) they were up against.
Again, well done!

ONLY 12.39 ??? Surely with that power he should be running 10's ... I mean 1/4 mile is what it's all about isn't it, it's the be all and end all when it comes to measuring performance. If your car isn't running 10's it's a piece of shit !!!
*** SARCASM ALERT *** ... :stick:
Hopefully a few of the 1/4 milers will notice that someone with Darren's abilities in a car with Sam's finest is running 12's ... there is a world away from the drag strip after all.
Well done John and Darren, I popped out with Scotty and my little boy yesterday morning, managed to have a chat with John and Darren which was good. The yellow GTS sounded nuts, I agree with Darren, it certainly sounded a lot meaner than it is. Lachie spent the afternoon talking about the cars he saw, his favourites where the "TrackChat car", the "yellow GTS" and the "red race car" (Darren's) ... all Holden's, good lad.

Is there anything you guys would have changed on the cars b4 racing if you had a chance?

Hey All, The Event was fantastic, I had an absolute ball. Just wanted to say Thank you for all the support that everyone has shown. It was great to meet the trackchat guys that came out also.
I managed to stuff up nearly every Motorkhana so that hurt the overall result, but the Car was brilliant (the driver could do with a Tune up though:yep: ) I was able to get a PB with a 1:10.5 at Wakefield Park, and I got a 1:50.9 around Eastern creek so I'm wrapped!
Well done Darren, top result mate. Hopefully you have stopped shaking after having a front tyre blow at the creek:shock:
Well done to Nathan too, that?s a great result on street tyres.
I have to give a big thanks to the following People:
Kyle - Kyle sharp photos
Trackchat
Sonny and the Team @ Marrano's
Darren @ Di Filippo Exhaust
Steve @ Mainlube
Pete @ Textralia
Cheers John

There sure is Nick but its a bit of fun...nonetheless Darrens car is very application specific...ill bet a couple of cases of crownies that if he put the stock suspension back in with some sticky rubber it'd shit an 11 in....really, it aint that hard.

Its always great to feel the love there Al. The funny thing is, you hit the nail on the head. On the 1/4 I got the jump on the GTR that won the rally. 1st and 2nd gear I was ahead of him, missed third hitting the gate between 3rd and 5th, then got it back into 3rd (split second stuff) and I reckeon the GTR jumped about 40 to 50 meters in front just from the stuffed gear change. My other drag run I got 5th instead of 3rd and went back to third and that added at least a second to the run. These 2 runs show how important getting everything right to run a good time. The second run was so slightly stuffed up but cost a lot.
Well done to John. He drove well over the weekend outdriving me a number of times, but this proves once again that power beats skill everytime.
Great fun event. Some of you should look at doing next years event

How could we not luv ya, you great big cuddly thing!!!!
Seriously, would've been interesting to see what yr weapon could run down the quarter (in 'normal' circuit setup) with gear changes happening properly. You had g'box problems all through the event, I'm sure yr results would have been even better without the g'box gremlin!
It would be good to see a few of the TrackChatters have a go at Dutton, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun..... I don't think my auto cog swapper would be appropriate though!!! (mind you.... it never misses the 2 - 3 change!).
Again, congrats on yr result.

No excuses I should have drove better. The key is getting some time in the car before the events. #rd gear was only a problem on the up shifts. From 4th back to 3rd was fine so on the circuits I was ok once I got up through the gears. 3rd hurt me badly on the 800m sprints and the drags. My driving hurt me everywhere.
Auto wouldnt be too bad in this type of event as it makes it easier as it is one less thing you need to do.
I am doing the Melb one, which I reckon is the best. If anyone is going they can join me a few days before and practice the events as we always hire out DECA and practice the events the day before

Well done Darren and John. Looks like you had awesome fun like usual.
So Darren which had your heart pumping more, the off at wakey in the deluge last year or this year at EC with the tyre blow out? Do you have any incar footage from this year? New car looks and sounds awesome.
That bullet does the Motorkhana's that are held here in Canberra so gets a bit of practice for sure. But both your car's are quicker in the longer full lap stuff, interesting.

By far the eastern creek spin. The Wakefield one last year was sort of expected as it was wet and the finish line was on the bumpy part. Eastern Creek was pushing hard knowing what the car could do, all of a sudden into a BIG tank slapping spin. When we watch the camera footage it shows me trying to catch it with absolutely no hope. To add insult to injury it finished going the right way still rolling on the grass. I thought I had just stuffed up (run out of ability) and didnt know I had a flat tyre. So I got back on the gas trying to get back into it and spun around again. Drove it through to finish the lap with a 2.35. We are now pretty sure it was a deflating tyre that let go. At first we thought the tyre roll had caused it to touch the strut and blow therefore my scond run was somewhat cautious around turn 1 and 8 both high speed left handers. I am not racing for sheep stations so was reluctant to risk chucking it into the wall if another one blew. We know the car has an easy 1.45 in it for Eastern Creek, but EC is a bit of a Hoodoo track for me at the moment with my last two outings being this spin and a big spin in the wet at the end of the main straight off down the old drag strip in flames. So I need to get out to the Creek and shake the monkey off my back as it is giving me the shits. The thing that is clear is that you need to spend time in the car to get the lap times down. I lapped the creek slower in the new car than I did in the old car last year and this car is at least 5 seconds better

Nothing worse than trying to race (in the second session) knowing a tyre might let go at anytime - yikes.
What do you mean your last spin in the wet was down the old drag strip in flames??? As in your car caught fire?
Are you going to post any footage? Would love to see it. I didn't get to come along this year due to health problem in the family.

you can't beat time in the car, I have done all of 8 laps (over 12 months) at the creek now, I would love to spend a day there. just to try and get turn one right.
I reckon it would of been a scary ride Darren, it would of made some interesting footage!
Anyone that is thinking of entering should, you won't regret it. try doing it with a Co-driver that way you can share the cost.
I'm looking into trying to get a Co-driver and do the VIC Dutton in a few months.

It was the TV crews Cameras in the car therefore they have the footage and are saving it for TV. They will give me the footage once it aired.

The last spin where it had flames belching? I had decided to get cool air flowing into the bellhousing, and had something flick off the track into the bellhousing. I thought I heard a rattle but with no insulation, noisy exhaust etc it is hard to hear anything. As I came down the straight I went for the clutch to go back a gear and the pedal was on the floor. Whatever had been in there had bounced around smashing holes in the bellhousing eventually ripping the bleeder from the slave cyl. Fluid had sprayed out onto the exhaust creating massive flames under the car. By the time all this happened I had to much speed for turn 1 and elected to go straight but had too much speed for that as well and tried to steer out of it. The old VHT is slippery when wet and car just spun around stopping about 10 meters from the tyres at the end. I had no pedal but the clutch was fine so I fired it up in first and kept doing another lap until the boys flagged me in. I had no idea about the fire until they told me when I came in. When we checked the bellhousing Planb worked out it had picked up a bolt off the track and had been bouncing around until it smashed its way out. I no longer run a vented bellhousing.
