WT compound for the drags :yep:. Probably the best "street" tyre after ET Streets. The heavy hitters used to get 1.6x 60' on WT RE55's.

How do these tyres go in any kind of wet weather? Are they a bit dangerous on the open road?

The size i would nead are 245/45/18 are these tyres better for drags or circuit does anyone know ?
The size i would nead are 245/45/18 are these tyres better for drags or circuit does anyone know ?
Mick there are generally two compounds of these RE55 tyres available; SR and WT. The SR are the ones we all use for circuit and they are the ducks guts. They will probably last you about 4 track days (assuming say 50+ laps per day). The WT are softer and generally used for drag racing only, however you can still use the SR for drag racing at a pinch (they are probably better than any regular street tyre anyway). If you are looking for a dedicated drag racing tyre, personally i would go with a Mickey Thompson, even in 16 or 17" if you have to. However if you want something that will fit over your brakes in 18" which can be used for circuit _and_ drag racing, perhaps go for the SR RE55 with some dedicated track rims. I wouldnt run the RE55 on the street full time btw (they get really noisy after a decent track day).
Are they classed as a slick tyre or just a good street tyre is the grip really much better than a good street tyre?
cant decide i kind of like the fact that i can say the times im pulling are on street tyres.
Are they classed as a slick tyre or just a good street tyre is the grip really much better than a good street tyre?
they are a semi-click, technically RE55 is legal for the road apparently.
The grip is heaps better than a road tyre, no road tyre compares believe me. Erik, Troy any myself picked up about 2~3 seconds around Wakefield, which speaks for itself. Not only outright grip, but the way in which these tyres hold onto the tarmac whilst losing traction, they dont just suddenly let go like a street tyre will; a good semi-slick will retain traction when whilst the tyre is spinning across the bad camber fish-hook, spinning tyres whilst tryig to change gears from 2nd to 3rd!
cant decide i kind of like the fact that i can say the times im pulling are on street tyres.
Mick you have another tenth or two to come with the road tyres at the strip, keep at it.
they sound good and i could loose a few seconds of my shittty wakefield times. just confused cause i thought a drag tyre would have soft side walls when circuit tyres would be harder i dunno but when you guys get prices would love to know and if the wife lets me i may get some thanks.
i would have to keap trying on streets for a while longer just sounds better when i say time was done on street tyres.

Oh . . I thought that the tires where in the country already.
If John knows and has done business with the importer before then all should be good.
Sorry it's just that there are alot of cheap new tires going around at the moment.
Most of these cheap tires are grey parallel import of old stock that has expired.
The importers are getting them almost for nothing and selling them in Australia at a big discount.
I have been caught out before.
But I'm sure that's not the case here.

OK, ive decided on 18's, with 245 rear..... just trying to decide on front.... im running 245 Nittos on the front now with rolled front guards. Someone metioned these tyres are bigger that street tyres?? I certainly dont have any room to spare on the front. Should i go with 225 fronts?? Any help appreciated, particularly does anyone run a VX-VZ with holden 18" stock rims with rolled guards and 245 fronts??

The biggest problem with the 245 fronts is that it doesn't leave you any room to dial in camber for the track, you then end up with stuffed outer edges and the tyres don't last as long as they should.
Dunc & Erik have extensively tested the 225 / 245 combination and it seems to give the best balance / rear grip / camber adjustment combination. I would go with that, it's your best bet at this stage.
I have brand new 225s and 245s on factory Holden VZ SS rims ... if you are really keen you are free to come over to my place and stick each on the front to see how much room you have ??? Happy to lend a hand if it makes you more relaxed about the decision.

If any more 245/40 x 18s are spare. I may be interested in 2. I had some a few year ago. How long do they last on the road? and how noisy do people find them. They certainly gripped well wet and dry. Is the SR the harder compound they are offered in?

Is there any word on whether or not we can get our money back on these 245 tyres?
Cheers, Jake.

I am assuming it's OK as no one has said otherwise, but ...

PM me your account details guys, I'll transfer the funds as soon as I get an OK.

Hey Guys
This is an old thread now but i have a problem.
The RE55's have been sitting around all this time until now cause of other mechanical problems.
I am finally going to take the car to a track day tomorrow and have discovered that i have 2 rear rights instead of a right and left.
It is a 245/40/18.
I suspect that most people have used there sets but if there is someone out there that still has a set siting around like me , can you check that you have all the correct corners.
In should be outside right and outside left.
I had a mix up initial with Nick so i am thinking that he may have the other tire.
If i can't sort it out today , i will run the left rear backwards to keep the outside shoulder on the outside and hope for the best.
cheers

Doesn't matter what direction you run them... The direction is only for water dispersion. In the dry will be fine.

Sorry Johnny ... I'm in Bathurst mate, tyres are at home. They have been used on 4 different cars since I bought them and no one has noticed anything, so I think they are fine ??? Can't check until next week though ...

All is good mate,
I will run the left side backwards, no problem according to the boys.
I wrote this post and rushed out the door to get to wholesale suspension for a tune up and had Luke keep an eye on the responses.
I spent most of the day there testing and tuning my suspension and at times i must of seemed like a bit of a pest.
A very big thanks goes to Luke , Chris, Jimmy and all the boys over there for great service and knowledge and also for the -2.5 camber with the RE55"s !
Also thanks guys for the quick responses regarding my post.
Cheers

Nope, it's still a 4 speed manualised auto hanging on for it's life.
Johnny i've often run the tyres backwards, with no dramas.

Good Luck John,
Hope the setups work....and remember the closer you are to the wall coming onto the straight the less damage you will do if you hit it!
Enjoy!
