View Full Version : Wakefield Park private track day results
Report live from Wakefield park :lmao: From the rear wing of a Ford (thanks Kyle) :D
What can I say, the weather here is bloody great, beautiful, awesome.
With air temps of 8 to 11* and AIT's the same we all had a great day.
There was only one major off and for privacy reasons I wont mention any names, Ill let the "member" tell the story, needless to say I saw the underside of his car in mr rear view mirror
In brief;
Duncs car, weapon :yep:
Erikkkk, fast as ever.
Mick, loved Nicks lap timer and its abilty to count into hours :whip:
Andrew, pushed his Suby really well all day, didnt see him come off once.
Speaking of coming off, I didnt come off once. I guess having my own RE55,s now really does help :D
Allan, first time out on a circuit and the Turbo and Al loved it! Al also got to see if his fire extingusher worked
I could ramble on for ages but a big thanks to Ez and Ben for organising the day and to Kyle for taking some insane pics!!
Troy :)

I made the journey today to spectate. It was a good day and the weather was great far running laps. I am jealous I didn't get out there. I need to get a pwr steering cooler and a few other things done b4 running around the track.
Duncans moz was well awesome. It had its own desintive sound, and he puta few great laps in.
Lautray was his usual self, drving the wheels off his vx. Btw the car sounded great comming down the straight.
Everyone seemed to have a great time and got plenty of laps in. There was a few offs into the dirt during the day although they were shared around a bit.
There was a Lotus there with Luffy providing some driver training, he had a few laps in it himself and absolutley rung it neck so to speak.
Luff was doing some driving training with a guy in an excel and it actually was keeping reasonable close to a wrx for a few laps.
Just goes to show its not all about power, more car setup and driver ability.
Can't wait for the next one and this time my backside will be trackside.

Well done to all involved in the organsing of the day.

Mostly from the P platers. In each session I did I witnessed at least one of these guys going off. Funny. Better on the track than on the street so good for them.

What a hoot! Gotta do this again.
I've a tiny oil leak around my turbo somewhere (still not sure where it's coming from). lately when the turbo gets hot a bit of white smoke can appear around the centre housing.... but I found out today it's not all going up in a 'puff of smoke'. Some has been making its way into my turbo blanket (insulated bag that surrounds the turbine housing).... and a few laps around Wakefield park gets the inside of the blanket hot enough to eventually ignite the oil.
I was consious of the leak so stopped after only 5 or 6 laps, just to make sure everything was OK... and when I opened the bonnet I had a little fire happening inside the blanket (about the equivalent of half a dozen cigarette lighters happening at once).
Took my trusty fire extinguisher out of its wrapping (must get around to mounting it one day!), one quick squirt and voila... fire was no more. Left the blanket off for the rest of the day, no more problems and even with the extinguisher powder around the turbo i can't work out where the leak is happening from! (maybe it's stopped... or it's so small that once the turbo is hot, it vaporises before it gets to wet anything... I dunno!)
Oh yeah... afew other 'discoveries' from my first circuit day:
auto... not a problem
500 rwHp & street tyres.... huge problem!!!
mildly upgraded stock brakes applied moderately hard can last a few laps
mildly upgraded stock brakes applied hard don't last a few laps!
I had to cut my day short as I had no pedal.
Will I do it again....; sheeeet yeah!

I'd just like to 'wave the flag' for the turbo cars present on the day that didn't catch fire.

Big thanks to Erin & Ben for a great day. Was good meeting some "new" TrackChatters. When you guys organise another day, we'd love to come again. The private day format was very relaxed. Never had to wait to go out for a few laps :bravo: .
I had quite a good morning... flat batteries in the lap timer in first session so no times, but it felt quicker than my subsequent sessions. Only went out for three sessions before lunch as I ran out of rubber... Canvas was showing on the outer shoulder of one of my front RE55's due to copping a hard time last year. But I did manage a new pb of 1:10.8. Didn't race in the afternoon. I think for stock suspension (except for aftermarket rear swaybar) it was fantastic. Very soft & plenty bodyroll, but I guess you drive accordingly. Will be looking at coilovers before next circuit outing.
Went for a few laps as a pax with Troy & Mick... Troy can handle his car very well indeed... the last of the late brakers :yep: . Think he cracked a new pb too. Well done. I don't think Mick is convinced of circuit racing just yet. Looked like he was having fun though. His VE SSV sounded great.
Duncan's Russo built 438 was wicked... sounding & going like a V8Supercar.
A few off's, one resulting in contact with an unmovable object, but glad he was fine.
Happy 21st for Saturday Erin. Be good :) .
Ditto, thanks to Erin & Ben for organising, well done.
The format of the day was great, even more relaxed than a regular open day (given we didnt have to fit all the street cars into a single 20 minute session per hour, there was enough time to give everyone heaps more space).
Was great to catch up with some regulars, and see some new faces (not to mention LUFFY!)
As expected the power in my car is beyond my ability, i was shaking after the first session.. should have got luffy in the car to teach me how to drive. Anyhoo i just couldnt translate the extra 100hp into a better time. No way i have the gonads to drive it flat through the kink, dont think i ever will. Best i could do was a low 1:11 today. I will need another day or two at the track to figure it all out, and start translating that into improved times. I need that 1:09 .....
Congrats Erik on the 1:10, well done mate. Pity you ran out of tyres - you probably would have done better again. And Bomi, congrats on the PB of 1:13 - awesome going for an auto mate, well done.

Thankyou all for coming, we are glad everyone enjoyed the day. We will definately be interested in doing another one in the not too distant future.
As for who came off the track the most times, that crown goes to Ben :D

Just so everyone is aware, I'm the one who stuffed it backwards into the tyre wall.
I think my ego copped more damage than the car.:hide:
It's all cosmetic, no mechanical or structural damage.
The passenger side front rotor was constantly grinding and shuddering all the way home but that is not related to hitting the wall.
Had a brain fade which resulted in an expensive trackday.
On another note it was great to meet everyone in person and thanks to Ben & Erin for putting on the day.

Jake,
Thats a bugga mate... good to hear that you and the car are ok if not a little shaken... but I am sure a lesson well learnt... not too mention a wall at a track is better than a telegraph pole or similar on the road.
Sounds like time for a big brake upgrade....
I think his car has had a brake upgrade?
:yep: Jakes car has extremely big brakes!!
Brakes have little to do with over and under steer
I crossed it up a few times yesterday there also jake and evey time I did your crash replayed in my mind.

I had to cut my day short as I had no pedal.
I might be being a bit harsh on my brake setup, I just had a look and last time brake fluid was changed was Nov last year, so 6 months ago. Probably a bit too long between drinks.
You guys that do regular track days, how often do you replace brake fluid?

Good to hear mate. Unfortunately a few more $$'s to repair as the damaged cosmetics were so nice! Is the Orange a std Munro colour or is it custom as well?

I think it was recommended to purge a little with a few pumps of the pedal to get rid of the fluid that had copped a hard time at the track not long after a track day. Not total flush though, just enough to purge the heat affected fluid ie fluid in caliper & brake lines close to caliper.
I do bleed the system before every circuit outing though. Piece of mind.

It's the standard GMH Flame colour but I think it's had half a dozen clear coats over the top as well, it was already sprayed that way when I bought it.
I'm thinking about just getting the whole thing resprayed and losing the stripes, I'll decide after getting some different quotes.
have a look at small videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hei2l1kKExc
Mick to embed your vid into a post you have to the following which I did last night for your drag vid :D :yep:
[youtube] Then the video code goes in here EG G7vaP7m2q [ /youtube]
I put a space in between [ /youtube] so it didnt try and embed the text but when you embed your vids leave no space, if you want, just put the video code in bewteen the above little bits of code.

Bad luck on the mishap mate....but hey dont let it deter you.

Good luck with it whatever you decide to do.:)

Well Thursday's off track excursion is turning out to be worse than I first expected, after having the smash repair place go over the car yesterday it turns out the damage is worse than I first thought.
When we looked inside the boot underneath the liner there is a big fold and ripples along floor, there is also numerous bent and broken brackets on the underside of the car. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
The quote to fix it has come in at just under $6K
Another expensive lesson..........

Wasn't there a Luffy there?
(ie: Wasn't it a driver training day?)

Luffy was there. Wakefield made the mistake of posting our private day on their events calender on their website as an open day, the poor bloke with the lotus that luffy was instructing drove down there only to be told that the track had been booked privately so they both approached me and asked if they could join in.

OK yes i think i did have the most offs for the day but if you dont come off your not sideways enough. I think its time to find some semi slicks, but not a bad efforort for 2nd hand radials found on the throw out pile.

Jake, which tyre wall did you hit and how?
Just so I can avoid it next time in down there.
