Gday

After a recent track night at Wanneroo, ive realised the importance of brakes. Ive currently got standard dba rotors with a ferodeo (spell?) pad. Seem to work well, but i got the brakes hot, and now they are crazed.

Im trying to do the right thing first, so my searches for what i want is driving me crazy ! The problem is i want to stick to brakes that will fit under a 17 inch rim, and i dont really want to be paying 3k for brakes, unless i can be persuaded there is no other way.

From some very good info ive received, i need to get disc's that will actually draw air through the rotor, helping cooling. Im really only after just fronts, as utes seem to use very little rear brakes.

Dattoman and saj have been very helpful so far, and I would appreciate anyone elses imput in what direction i should be looking at. Of course the main problem to all this is MONEY and trying to do something really well on little of the folding stuff is pretty impossible, so i guess i may just have to wait :headbang:

All ideas appreciated

You may be able to get a set of APRacing 4piston callipers for around $3000. I have them front and rear on my SS, still running 17?s, and they are amazing. Depending what rotors and pads you run with will add extra cost. But if you can afford them, get them!!

And being addicted to track days is a curse. Once you do brakes, then you?ll want to upgrade something else and it?ll never stop :D

Its got standard DBA rotors with a upgraded pad. I guess i want a better result than i have now, but if i spend say 2k, and im still dont get a decent result, ill be annoyed. I guess with brakes, it doesnt hurt if they are a bit too much.

I think shanes wilwoods would be awesome on my ute, id never smash them as hard as he does. Hes a hoon he he

So what size brakes do you actually have on it now as it is not clear ? std or the performance kit? Something can be done for you under 3K but we need to know what you have on it.

They are standard rotor front diameter on a VU SS ute. The are the basic dba rotor with slots in them, with a upgraded ferodo pad, unsure of what type they are.

So this should have the std 296mm front rotor and rear 286mm solid rotor.
There are numerous options to go with. For starters you could run the molycarbide rotors front and rear which converts your rear solid disc to vented with some performance pads. You could run a twin piston 330mm rotor on the front with the smaller vented rear disc or go to the 315mm disc upgrade. You may even get the 343mm front twin piston kit with 315mm rear under the 17"s.
A 4 piston upgrade using your 300mm disc or the 4 piston upgrade with 330mm discs can also be provided for under $2750.The rear std size rotors but with the vented discs for $250 a pair so that would still be under the 3k mark for any of these upgrades listed.. at a later date if you only want to run fronts for now you could use your existing caliper with 315mm rotors, brackets, hoses etc supplied for under a $1000 .
There are many options available to you and others interested in a brake upgrade and front only upgrades in twin piston 330mm or 343mm can be done from $1150 to $1650.

will a 15in rim fit over the 315

Don't think so. You need 16" to fit over 315.

That is great information, thanks Matt !

Yes atleast 16' but this is where the vented and slotted molycarbide rotors come into the picture as they are std diameter and replacement. We do many 4piston 330mm front commodore VT-VZ conversions and replace the rears with these rotors so customers can use there 15" wheels on the back for the drags
