View Full Version : Hmmm RE 55's (Video)
Here is some footage of my PB around Eastern Creek from today. First session, with Dunc RE 55's, OHM they are the best tyres I have ever driven on

Troy :)
Awesome footage mate...looked like it was a bit wet there! :)
Good day? Who else ended up going?
Cheers,
- Febs.
PS: The sound inside the cabin is AWESOME. :)
Eric, Dunc, Stav, Phil (Bok1) and myself.
The rain was pretty constant and rather disapointing but hey I made the most of it.
It was a good day but would have been far far better if there was no rain.
How is Europe Martin??
Troy
Well done Troy, good driving. Btw, have you tried to get that limiter issue sorted?
How is Europe Martin??
It's good thanks mate. :)
Madrid is a bit of a let-down (crappy food and the weather went from 25 at the start of the week to 10 and rainy now), but Sweden was awesome.
I'm heading off to a small city in Czech Republic tomorrow, so that should be interesting. Then on the weekend I've got a 3 Series/C Class booked (about the best I could get being under 25, as a 5/E would've just meant excess weight), and accommodation here (http://www.hotel-an-der-nordschleife.de/). :)

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6bVoRp_eU4) is the training video that comes in the information pack for the hotel!

Cheers fellas!
Mick, in March this year at EC I ran 2.16's or higher on street tyres and without any vehicle mods.
Now yesterday on RE 55's and with all my mods I ran a 2.01 twice.
I didnt have a OTR either and the A4 was boucing off gear shifts in power badly yesterday, slower cars were also fun to pass. So I honestly think on a empty track in the dry with an OTR and RE 5's I could squeeze out a 1.58.5
The other sessions I cant really compare as it was on street tyres and there was much much more water on the track then the first session on RE 55's.
One things is for sure. If you wanna good track tyre the RE 55's are the go.
Troy:)

Quick question for ya Troy ... are you shifting down the second for the corners, and if you are, when do you shift it to 3rd ???
I only ask because in my car if I try and shift to 3rd and the end of 2nd it bounces of the limiter like yours does, it doesn't want to change gears straight away. However, if I know I am going to need 3rd and I shift it into 3rd as soon as I have my foot on the floor in 2nd it changes fine when it runs out of revs in 2nd.
e.g. Wakefield, I shift down to 2nd for the last corner to avoid it kicking down to 2nd on the straight, then when I am in a straight line I pop it into 3rd, well before redline in 2nd. It then selects 3rd when it needs to.
You may well be doing this and it's just not working, but thought I would raise it anyway as it's definitely costing you time.
BTW ... that's some nice driving, your speed in the wet scares the shit outta me, but very nice driving all the same. Look forward to a track day when I can join in !!!

What about the liquid magma front rotors Troy?
A nice little omission there man! :P You bought your Tokyo drift sessions up from wakefield and swapped them for a bit of rotor frying - you seemed to win some hearts in pit lane as well man you show pony.
Man i wonder how that guy is with his not so straight Monaro that decided to take a dump on him going down the straight - imagine if he has a wife! :O

Sadly no. :( If I was a few years older I could've hired a 997 911 (which probably would be a stupid idea :D) but unfortunately all I could get was a 3 or C. Not sure what model - probably a 323 or 325i (330ci would be nice!) Hopefully not a diesel - although I've been in some surprisingly quick diesel (taxi's) while over here!
I've also found out the 'ring will be open on Saturday too (previously it was only going to be open on Sun), so I might even get 2 days on the track. :D
Cheers,

That would be an experience not to be missed no matter what car you are in, any 3 or C will handle well so you should still have a heap of fun.
Lots of pics + if possible some video please :D
BTW Febs ... I felt it appropriate to update your location this week :waving:

My young bloke (30) was over there recently and hired an M6 for a week! Said it was awesome! But said it really sucked the juice when giving it plenty - he spent nearly $1000 on juice in a week!

Yeah, at $2.50/L or so, it's going to be an expensive weekend!
The way I look at it is - I'm probably not going to be in Germany for a long time (it's a blessing I'm in Europe at all - I'm on a work trip and just happened to have a weekend free in Czech Republic, with convenient flights that didn't break the bank), so even if it costs me big (car hire, flights, petrol, laps, accomm, luckily food is covered), it's worth it. :)

:) Love it mate, thanks. :)
..and don't worry, I'll definitely have a video camera with me, and hundreds of photos (though I might save the in-car footage for the last lap ;)). Will do a big write-up with photos, video and a cost breakdown for anyone else considering a similar trip. :)

Thanks Dunc, seems like a piece of cake. 8min lap here I come!
(eighteen minute lap maybe, if I'm lucky).

Hey Nick thanks for the props man
I shift to second for some corners and I have to do it early as the A4 and the PCM hate each other and dont get along as Im sure you know from Wakefield Park.
So I spend quite a bit of time in 2nd at EC but when I do shift third I shift it into 3 early as possible as I find that if I do this it wont bounce off the rev limiter. If I shift to 3 to late you get the barp barp barp barp barp barrrrrrrrroooommmmmmm.
Its almost as if the PCM needs time to ask "hey box!, what gear you in" A4 "Hey PCM ya prick, why should I tell ya?" PCM "Well Troys gonna put us into a wall if you dont shift!" A4 "Farrrk, 3rd im in 3rd ya hear me!!!"
As you said Nick its costing me time and I reckon with a manual, OTR and some RE 55's I could squeez out a 1.58 or maybe better.
Its all fun though and times are just a nice to know.
Im looking forward to chasing the C4T around a track soon :whip:
Troy :)
