View Full Version : WINTER DRAG DAY II - 12th Aug 07
After the awesome turnout for the WDD today and the show of hands who were keen to go again on a later date Trackchat.com.au is very happy to announce the Winter Drag Day II which will be held at WSID on the 12th Aug 07.
Below is the list of people that had there names down for the WDD.
You will get first dibs on the WDD-II.
If you are keen to attend the WDD-II just put a Yes next to your name.
We will hold your money from the WDD for the WDD-II. If you require the $$$ back that will be more then OK :)
However the same rules apply, a 25% deposit will be required to secure your spot.
Deposits for the WDD-II are needed by the 16th July 07. If we have received no deposit you will loose your spot and someone on the waiting list will get your spot.
Full payment will be required no later then the 30th July 07.
If you cannot make this day you can receive your refund via contacting NickS. The total cost of the day per-person will be emailed to me by John at WSID this Monday and will be announced in this thread. It should not be much more then what we discussed as a group in the shed at WSID :)
1. It's not about how quick or slow your car will go, its all about having fun with like minded people.
2. There will be prizes for best ET in grudge racing and a "Lucky door/gate prize" A BBQ Breakfast and lunch will be provided for Gold coin donation by the Lions club.

Realised on the way home that 12/8 is the City2Surf, which I'm in with a work team. :(
Sorry mate, I'm out. Damn - that was probably my last chance at a winter run too. Might have to go back to Wednesday nights if I can get some time off.
Cheers,

OK guys ... the costs incurred for Sunday came to $1500 ($30 per driver), the balance is being refunded and will be put towards the WDD II. This is actually less than we expected, WSID have looked after us on this one.
Each entrant has a credit to their name of $170, we have decided to split the costs between the main entrants and allow any 2nd drivers a full credit. I will have a list up shortly of the postive confirmations for the 12th of August and anyone that can't make it can PM me and we will organise a refund.
Can those that are confirmed to attend on the 12th of August please send through $30 sometime in the next month ... if you want to carry over your 2nd driver you don't need to pay anything more, as mentioned above the full credit will carry over.
Please let either Bomi or myself know if you have any questions.
Account details for payment (with user name please) are;
Account Name - Track Chat
BSB - 082 201
Account No. - 87 067 5634
Bank - National Australia Bank

You're right Tony, we could have told you that and everyone probably would have paid without question ... but that's not what TrackChat is about now is it.
:D
We were really suprised, $30 each considering all the staff that turned up and the fact that the ambulance came out to the track, is bugger all really.

ive know john henman for a couple of years now on a proffesional level and semi social and i have to admit he is one honest and understanding guy. the man works his butt off and is devoted to drag racing and helping it progress and thats why we got out of it good too. he knows what it means to people to have these days and we chatted about it at the recent nitro champs. the whole wsid staff allways do more than thier fair share to make things as smooth and as good as possible for the racers and fans.
ps sorry i didnt mean to get off topic.

sounds bad but as luck would have it, it was best i didnt have a run as just as i was getting into dubbo my rear passanger tyre blew out and when i went to put the stockies on that i had brought down with me they wouldnt fit, the tyre place gave me ve commodore stockies instead. so i wouldnt have been able to run on any of my own tyres anyway. some might think the blow out is just bad luck but i have had a mystery tyre wear on the inner edge of that tyre and a slow leak. first thought was camber wear but the wear was on the sidewall edge. boom she went. the big bonus now is i have more time to prepare for the new day.
They gave you VE stock rims? God how silly is that?!!

No more money needed mate ... you're all sorted.
These one week turnarounds aren't as easy as they sound are they. Still, you don't want to rush these things and get something wrong, hopefully you will be good to go for the 12th.

Well unfortunetly my car is not ready. So I am out.If it is to late for a replacement, so be it.
Surge tank split, fuel rails leaked, computer went down, boost was dropping off,and it wasnt running on 8 cylenders. But apart from that the tune went well. Sam did his apsolute best to get me to this day.Just ran out of time.
Even saw him fire a bloke....
Maybe next time.....be a great day.Have fun boys.

it's not looking good for me to race on Sunday.
After 2 months of getting stuffed around by Dave from RVO and waiting for a replacement box it finally got installed today but it's playing up
I had one of his big dollar boxes in the car 4 times and it lasted only a few km's after install and being a fully rebuilt box every time.
He has been blaming my tune settings so this time he sent me a different rebuilt box that was converted to a full manual shift that does not need to be plugged into the car.
Well guess what DAVE . . . . It's not my car stuffing up your boxes.
This one went all on it's own.
And i might add that my original stock standard auto had never missed a beat for 100,000 km and over 60 passes at the drags doing mid 12's in the same car
I will report my whole experience with this man over the last 18 months in another post.
All i will say now for now is BEWARE.
Sorry for the long post but i am very angry !!!

Mate my car is an automatic muncher so you wouldn't want to be anywhere near the thing . he he he
I will take it now down to Fred at Protrans in Sydney.
I spoke with him and he is going to have a look under the pan.
The box is noise as F@&%# and hits neutral on the 2nd to 3rd shift for a second and then finds the gear. This only happens under load , above say 40% TP.
Thanks for the offer seedyrom, your a good man !
See you all there tomorrow, i will still give the car a few runs in this state.

Some tantalisers for those waiting :D
Founding member 1 was a poofteenth of being given his "come back with a cage" marching orders :bravo:
Founding member 2 knocked 1 second of his previous PB :bravo:
Founding member 3 knocked .4 off his previous PB and was under 12 sec for 99% of the day,
Founding member 4 knocked .4 of his prev. PB and was sub 13sec all day.
Firebug was within a poofteeth of running a sub 13 sec pass with tune/OTR and 3.07 gears ... :bravo:
A new world record MAY HAVE been set :D :yep:  :bravo:

What a great day, thank to all involved especially Bomi & NickS for all their effort in making it happen :woohoo:
No pbs for me today, though i did run my 1st 1.5 60 footer ( thanks for the loan of the slicks Girch  )... but i torched a 3 week old built box in the process.
I didnt get to see a whole lot of racing but cars that impressed me...
Russo/ Sergen GTS running 9.9 whilst killing the tyres to at least 1/2 track!
Duncan pb'ing 11.0 in the big cube n/a monster...nice pedalling mate.
Girch with a 11.1 in a H/C 346... it was lifting both front wheels! :yahoo:
NickS, 11.3 in a car on the wrong side of 2 tonne with everyday street tyres is a great result. :D
Bomi, a solid 11.8 followed by a drive to Melbourne... you're mad
mate! :weirdo: :D
...and of course "that" Dodge Charger...won the coolest car award by a country mile, i just want one.

I forgot "meatpie" Mick...12.5 @ 112 in the VE SS, im guessing thats the fastest bolt on l76 around & a big congrats to Exploder for pb'ing the "horse carrier" to a 12 sec. pass. :smiles:
Wow, some impressive times there fellas. Sounds like a great day (and you couldn't have asked for better weather!)
I ended up doing a decent time (in the City2Surf :p). 103min minus whatever the time difference for starting groups was...I'd guess about 8-10 min...so 95ish. Sub-95 was my goal, so hopefully I got there. Find out on Tues. Also raised around $900 for Kids with Cancer, so a successful day all up. :)

Coupe 4 world record now stands at 11.302 ...
The car performed faultlessly all day, the new box is sensational (big thanks to Craig's Automatics) and the engine is an absolute belter. It's having the turbo for breakfast but I'm not overly keen on going anything bigger at this stage. Thanks again to Sonny for putting together such an awesome package.
Congrats to the Russo boys for some great results, it was quite a thrill to see the GTS run. Dunc's car once again prooved itself to be an absolute animal, it would have been great to see a 10 ... but you have to happy with 11.0. Rick's ute will go an easy 10 when everything falls into place, just wasn't his day yesterday ... lots to be happy about however. Mick keeps running that VE to times that really shouldn't be possible given the setup ... well done mate.
Congrats to Bomi on consistant 11.8 / 11.9s all day ... baby cam only, they are awesome times mate. There wasn't much out there that could stay with you. The fact that you drove back from Victoria for one day makes your efforts even more impressive ... hopefully this week isn't too much of a struggle.
Finally thanks to the non-drivers ... thanks for coming out to watch, lend a hand with the car, support everyone that was driving, or simply look after the kids so that I could go and play, Buffy, Dave, Scotty, Tigs ... big thanks guys.
Now bring on Wakefield ... :driving:

A big thanks to Bomi and Nick for organising a fantastic day (2nd time round lol!!!).
Weather was great and the SV8 did the return journey from Newcastle and 10 runs without any dramas.
I ran 13.4's all day, didn't seem to matter what I tried it always ended with a 13.4!!! The last couple of runs I scored a best of 13.064 with a 2.168 60ft @110mph. I ran the car exactly how it is when I drive it to work and although I would have liked to crack a 12 I was happy and had a ball trying.
I was blaming my shithouse Falkens for the bad 60ft's until I chatted with Chilly and found he was on the same tyre running 1.7's and flat 12's! Unfortunately this only leaves one explanation.........:driving:

Hey guys.
Thanks very much for the day. Good to get the Camry out for a couple (of dozen) runs.
Sporting a K & N panel airfilter, folded back side mirrors and minus spare tire :o it ran a PB of 18.576 at 119 kmph
It was really daunting lining up for the first time, the 1/4 mile looks so long just like it never ends : but as Troy said its just like launching your car off at the traffic lights. Before i had even gotten into 3rd gear it was already over!
I was really impressed with your car Troy. Consistantly running high 11's with no signs of overheating or any problems :bravo: Good to see that people are getting times off there PB's.
Who thinks i should put a blower on the car? :lmao: that would be entertainment!
Now the old girl has done a day at Wakefield and a day at WSID!!! Shows that a car over 10 years old, with over 170 thousand kays on the clock can still run all day being pushed. As i was saying to Kyle looks like my next car might have to be the last generation twin turbo supra which can handle 1000hp running on stock engine/transmission!! Spose im a sucker for Toyotas now :)
Hethro :)
What an exceptional day, the weather was stunning.
Big thanks to Bomi and Nick for dealing with WSID, entires, payments and assorted red tape!
Thanks for making it all happen guys.
Thanks also to Ken and the Lions club for putting on the great feed as usual (much appreciated Ken).
I was stoked to run an 11.0@124mph N/A (think i managed 126mph once) especially with bilstein/eibach circuit suspension in place.
a MASSIVE thanks to Russo Performance for building the awesome 438ci LS/x combo, which went strong all day.
It was great to catch up with people from the forum, everyone so friendly and helpful, that is what it is all about.
NP guys was good fun :yep:
Cheers to Nick for the effort he put in due to me being away

Thanks to Bomi and Nick for a great day (And everyone else who was involved).
I had a ball although my times were far slower than what I was expecting, I could only manage a best of 12.9 with 2.2 60ft time, the car wouldn't allow me to get more than around 1800rpm before creeping (but I think there is some software out in a few weeks to fix that).
I'll definitely be back for the next one though.....never thought the drags would interest me but I was wrong......I have a feeling I'm going to be tipping a bit of cash into the Typhoon.
I thought Dunc's car went and sounded freak'in awesome, Nick's car just done consistently quick times effortlessly and Troy's times were extremely impressive for the amount of power it's making.
Great day with great weather, you couldn't ask for more.

how did you run luke?
12.36 @ 114.5 and 1.86' so I was fairly happy, I couldn't do anything real crazy because of the std clutch, 3000 perhaps 3500 was as far as I was willing to dare push it and to it's credit behaved very well all day. I did manage (fluke is a better term) a 1.78 60 footer on my very first run of the day but missed third, will never know now and ended up with 12.58 @ 112. In the end it is a case of coulda, woulda, didn't. Overall very pleased with the DIY Tiger Truck, good fuel econ on the way home to boot.
I retired around 2.30pm and had as much fun spectating for the last hour or so, these were my highlights:
- Nick's Coupe attempting to do backflips and reverse the Earth's gravitational force
- Dunc's 438 cubes at full noise in a gallant attempt to be asked to leave, if hope and willingness from the TC fan club were worth anything you would've run a 9 - I have never seen a car so strongly barracked for including myself hoping like buggery - nice pedalling. BTW I think you've got noise complaints from NZ.
- The pair of silver VY SSs hot lapping, so close too, persistance was impressive as was the consistency, well done Tony and Troy.
- The turbo Falcon in true sleeper guise was good to watch - very surprising.
- The GTS that went 'just under' the day's limit - OMFG, musta been a handful.
And to all those that PBs, nice work was an enjoyable day.

Big thanks to Nick and Troy for the effort put into organising the day
What a great day it was.
Highlights:-
Watching the coupe4 - man how smooth, no burnouts, driving off the line for very quick times.
Dunc's coupe going hard all day and pulling smokies...
The green hornet skating off the line for 300' - crazy
Catching up with the usual suspects and talking with some new ones.
My last run of the day - close to a PB - 12.47 @ 113.04 with a 1.769 60'
Smashing the black XR8 ford (yay me)
Getting pipped by the white VE GTS - damn these are quick with little mods.
Great potential with further mods.
Unfortunate events - the black twin turbo clubbie blowing heaps of smoke from the left - suspect busted turbo?
Anyone else have trouble getting off the line?

1.62 60' on street tyres @ 38 psi ... I did OK.
I'm bringing this up whenever possible ...
Earlier on the 60' was shocking i found, but as the day warmed up, and more rubber was laid down, things got better. Still far from ideal i reckon. I managed a 1.61 60' for my best run of the day.
I could only hope to get anywhere near that with regular tyres though. Btw, how did Chilly go? I believe he gets great 60's with street tyres.

Depending on the life span of the tyre you can do to much "smokin"
I was breaking traction off the line on Sunday after big burnouts.

I'm on M/T ET Streets and the tread grooves are still showing, so should be plenty of life left in 'em
