A mate has organised a private day at Wakefield on Sunday, July 29. I think they're slightly short on numbers at the moment. So he asked me to open it up on our forum. Cost is $110 (if you need a Wakefield licence, you can buy one on the day at the track: $50, valid for 12 months). Numbers capped at 50. Approximately 10 spots available.
Post up if interested. Duncan & I have already entered.
Should be a great day.

Well, it was a pretty good weekend away, with Goulburn "festivities" Saturday nite, followed by some sore heads & crook guts Sunday morning :headbang: . The usual cold, dry, windy Goulburn winter day. Lots of cars, mostly old(er), having a go. Lots of hot brakes & clutches smelling. A fair few cars spearing off too, & finding out why Wakefield is relatively safe with not much to hit.
I only used the lap timer on my last session & managed 2 good consecutive laps that were close to pb: 1:10.9 & 1:10.8. Happy with those, but what do we have to do to go 1:09.x??? Ca-Chingggggg. I think Duncan may have got in-car footage of the laps on vid. I more-or-less had the track to myself then as it was ~3.30pm & most had already packed up & gone home.
Thanks to Gerry (hwy-318) & CAVOA for the invite :).
Bring on the September Wakefield day :yep: . With more TrackChatters, should be a top outing :D.

It was a tops Weekend. Things got a little hairy with the after dinner festivities though. I think Erik drank his weight in Wild Turkey, and drove the big white chinaware bus for a while (got some pics around here somewhere..)
Anyhoo, here is some in-car money-shots from sire big-banger!
Very nice driving mate, respect innit.. Ali-G style

Not really that spectacular, is it? I guess those kind of laps are the best type.
Cheers for putting that up :).

It's pretty hard to make 1:10'ish look that clean, especially on a commodore without track suspension.

Well done Erik, that's always impressive to get a near standard car into the 10s at Wakefield. I reckon you can get into the 9s too.
What's your goal for Eastern Creek?

Dunno. Mid-high 1:50's? Got tyres (thanks Dunc ;)), brakes & just a bit more power this time. I was scared shitless last year & only managed 2:02.
September Wakefield should be great with expert tuition.

I gotta ask ... how did you go Dunc ???
Is the power usable or are you finding that you can't actually go any faster than you where going before (with your piddly 315rwkw ... ).
Erik ... I reckon you will get mid 1:50s easy, you have done a fair bit more track work since you where last at EC and as you said, the car will be better. Scary arse track, but I'm sure you will have fun.

Erik if I can do a 2.01 in the rain with back markers then you will do a 1.52 easy peezy I say :yep:
Good luck and have fun.

Nice driving Erik...Looks smooth
I notice most of the track is 3rd gear
Not that I know, being an internet racer only, but is 2nd an option for some more corners? I see its 2nd coming onto the main straight.
revs to me sound a little low on a corner or two(?)

Generally the higher the gear the better. To put Erik's gear selection into perspective, I used to use 3rd in my 62rwkw Toyota MR2 on turn 2 as well. Slightly less torque than the V8 ;) (but still did low 15s)
Its nicer on the engine, easier not to fry the tyres, and generally quicker.
I use 2nd more than I want to now in my race car, as it bogs down (damn carbies! :headbang: ) in 3rd. Hopefully a tune and some work on the carbies will fix that.

Ian, revs do sound "low" coming out of the fish-hook, but they're not as low as you think... am able to WOT out of there without turning the tyres. Found this to be more efficient.

:yep: H/C means plenty torque/hp to get you out of corners :D.

Nick my car was awesome, spins up so fast, we managed a couple of sessions trialing a new Russo circuit oil system. Very productive giving the Russo boys heaps of data to go forward. Did some logging but never even hooked up the lap timer; no point at this stage as i was nursing things somewhat. Should be sorted for September 24 though. Perhaps some more testing tomorrow night... and/or this Saturday at E/C. Might even kick some Bus Racer arse one of these days!..

Thanks to Duncan and erik for turning up. It was a wild day with several cars having tank slappers. Alot of first timers- me includeing -and finding where the limit is. Thanks r=erik for letting me have a turn of his car which was relatively eay to drive after trying to manhandle the charger around the track. Erik, your car is a doomsday machine. Thanks.

Sequence shots of one of Gerry's mates flatspotting 4 RE55's down to the canvas/belt (Gerry was passenger in the Charger at the time too). The story is I had been "harassing" them the previous lap. Just passed them into the kink & then all hell breaks loose, literally. So I get out of there like a scalded cat and which red baron comes up to inspect the aftermath??? :D

Good stuff guys. Looks like alot of fun.
Was that a genuine Walky racing? How do the old beasts go for laptimes?
lautray

Not sure if that one was genuine, Haz. Don't think many were circulating overly quick, but I know for a fact that the Charger that spun in the pics above does 1:13's as the owner supersprints the car regularly.
