Calling all F/I guru?s!

For those that don?t know, I ran up the rear end of a Nissan Pathfinder last week. As a result, I have to replace the intercooler.

The last one was a Cheap Charlie import with a 600 x 300 x 100 mm core. It worked well simply because of the huge core size?. How well? Who knows, I never did any logging to compare my IAT?s with anyone else?s. The 100 mm deep core meant that location was a problem and the front crash bar had to be modified to accommodate the coolers depth, and I lost my driving lights.

As the repair will involve new bar, new crash bar and new intercooler, rather than modifying the new crash bar to accommodate the same type of intercooler I thought I?d use a 76 mm deep core this time, and if I go ?up market? in intercooler, I might be better off in any case.

Who?s done some research / comparison of one cooler V?s another, and what cooler should I be buying? (it?s a single turbo application with cooler arrangement similar to a Gen T). What do we recon fella?s.

Voodoo, I notice you've gone PWR for your blower system. Did you compare others? from mempory, Dale uses PWR as well though I think that had more to do with failures in cheap charlie's rather than performance comparisons (though I might be wrong, the PWR's may have performed better as well)

PWR intercoolers are VERY good but not cheap. They will custom make one for you to suit your application. Another very good option (better than PWR) is Plazmaman. Talk to Alex and tell him Stewart from VooDoo Inductions sent you and he will look after you. We use his pipework and silicons which are extreamely good quality. We did use some chinese intercoolers and they didnt perform. They felt very light and tinny and get a lot hotter than the PWR does.

Al.,

my car on a full pass increases the air temp by 4deg over the run,
the RB 200sx increases 45deg over a run...

thats all the proof i need there to stick with the PWR
