View Full Version : Dont listen to a bus driver!!
Well after weeks and weeks of putting up with my loose hand brake I asked a certain person that will remain un named how to do the handbrake up tighter.
To which he said. "take your back wheels of and there is a little......." anyway I was at the Engine Doctor in Wagga today getting my front rotors machined and I metioned my handbarke.
1 minute later my hand brake was awesome and my rear wheels were still on.
All you need is a 10mm socket, pull the hand brake up, lift the bottom of the HB cover up, attach socket, tighten clockwise and voila. Check hand brake then.... then, then thats it :D

That's the short cut way Bomi, depending on how bad it is that may not work !!!
The adjustment from in the cabin doesn't fix a stretched cable, hate to say it but my bet is that in a month your handbrake will be loose again. Talk to "The Dr" ... the real one (Sonny) ... he will confirm what the Bus Racer says. The only way to properly tighten a hand brake is by removing the rear wheels and adjusting the mechanism to tighten it from the brake ... not the handle.
:p

I didn't say drive 500kms ya goose ... if you ask him how to tighten a handbrake the answer will include removal of the rear wheels.
I'm not saying what you have done doesn't work, but it's a short term fix, to adjust the handbrake correctly it HAS to be done from the back at the hand brake assembly.
Anyway, beers it is ... worst case, I loose and we drink beer :D

Ahem... Its Bus RACER, thank you :p ! And for the record, as Nick said, that way is not a fix... it's a cheat... band aid solution. Remember the old adage: do it once, do it right.
LOL there are beers on this, botique ones at that (New) LOL.

Hey Troy..here's a true story I went through with my brothers car....
I had to borrow my brothers piece of shit...XB Ford...351 4 SPEED
My driveway is quite steep...My brother drops off the car in my driveway because it had no handbrake he placed a brick under the rear wheel...the next morning it took about half and hour to start...NOW... this is the problem..I can't get out of the car to remove the brick because it's in a nuetrual gear..but I can't but it in gear either...(opposite my house is a small reserve) thinking I'll just drive over the brick in reverse...great NO brake's either I ended up in the paddock the car got bogged and stalled I ended up taking the day off work....All this from a faulty "Hand Brake":headbang:
And it wasn't funny at the time...
Thats a hell of a story. Yeah, the hand brake, easily neglected but so so important!!
Still havent got mine fixed :headbang:
