I am having the link pin bushes replaced on the Monaro with Nolothane jobs which got me thinking, is there any other suspension bushes I should look at replacing with Nolothane? If so what benefits do they offer?

Only suspension mods so far consist of Tein Coil overs front and rear.

Thanks

It depends on why you want to do them.

You can put nolathane bushes into the lower control arms to reduce movement on the front, the diff mount & rear K frame to possibly reduce axel hop ... and some others but the real question is why are you wanting to do it?

Nolathane will be stronger than rubber but will lose some of the compliance that the rubber bushes have ... thus a firmer (and some times noisier) ride quality.

Are you wanting to do them for the sake of doing them? If so, I wouldn't bother personally. My opinion only.

Is there circuit usage planned? If so, then it's probably a worthy thing to do to take "some" of the boat handling out of the car.

My depreciating 20 cents worth ala M12. :D

Use Noltec ;). They're the blue ones. No issues here.

Tiger SS,

I had no reason for doing other bushes except I figured since I had to do the link pins I might as well do the others. However it sounds like its not worth worrying about unless you have a specific reason to do it. I will stick with what I am doing. Thanks for the advice.

lautray,

I will ask about Noltec as I think they are using Nolothane. Cheers

Front Radius rod bushes are the first suspension mod id do. Stops the struts moving under braking and cornering and gives you MUCH better feedback from brake and steering. Nolathane PN# 48166

Rear Anti-tramp bushes. Front of the lower control arm. Stops or reduces tramp.

Diff Mount: Further reduces tramp but increases noise a little. Worth doing.

Camper kits: Pre-VX2 you need a 4 point kit (inner and outer). For post VXII you can get away with just the outer kits as you have the extra links. If going very low you may need both but get the rear cradle aligned as well as a 4 point wheel alignment.

Link pins... get used to replacing em. $20 a set but make sure the metal washer is inverted (bend is away from the link bush ie -----)bush(

reminds me i get my link pins done, i think one is rather bent!

and Russo replaced the rear bushes last week, the stockers were split!

Simple suggestion Daniel ... as the rubber bushes wear out replace then with the blue Noltec ones.

As VooDoo said, noltec can induce more noise which if you're fussy can be annoying.

These interest me and I think Harrop suggested they were a must do with my 343 4 piston brakes. Are these the items that are filled with oil and eventually split and then leak? I believe that the factory jobs are squishy and allow a lot of movement under hard braking? If I am thinking of the correct item then I have been told to replace these on a couple of my cars but I have always been hesitant as think as Tiger SS suggested the aftermarket versions induce alot of noise which I really dont want. Pretty sure it was Duncan who told me these became quite noisy on his Monaro. I guess it is a compromise.

I am running the red bushes on the front (forget which brand) and i dont get any noise. Erik runs the blue bushes (noltec?) and i think they make noise, but i think only when jacking up the car and stuff like that. Personally i wouldnt bother for the street. Btw just had the read lower control arm pads changed, Russo pulled the old ones out and they were split..

Yep, my Noltec's groan when jacking the car up i.e. when the load is taken off the wheels. No noticeable noise when driving though :) .

I didnt end up doing the link pins and now I wish I had. As of today I get a huge clunk from the drivers side suspension. It sounds like the wheel is going to fall off when I go over bumps. It was just a little bit of noise when exiting my driveway but it is now loud enough to get pedestrians staring when you drive past them :o

From my searches it seems like this is linkpins? It actually feels like the front suspension is moving around and the shock will punch through the bonnet which is noisier then what most people describe? I occasionally get noise of the passengers side to but not as bad. Anything else this could be? The car does have Tein Coilovers.

I also get a smaller but similar noise from the back passenger shock area and I have no idea what that is. I will need to get it all looked at obviously but I am nervous about driving it to far. Any thoughts guys? I may be able to get under there and tighten something up before driving it to a shop?

lol I am having a bad run at the moment, always at the time when you cant afford things to go wrong!

is anyone open today (sunday) that sells link pins ?

Now i've got a hoist I can see where "that" noise is coming from.

One of my pins is broken. Need it replaced today :)

I took photos, but from this iMac in the garage, it wont play ball with voodoo's server, so i'll describe it.

I had a god awful annoying noise coming from the front end for over 18 months.

When I got the 90/10s put in 14 months ago in preparation for drag racing, I mentioned it, saying if you can work out whats wrong, fix it.
Nothing happened, and this noise slowly got worse.
Every bump/sppeedhump had this metal on metal groan.

Last friday on the way home from work, I literally pulled over on a major arterial with my kid in the back, and ran to the front of the car. I thought the whole K-Frame had dropped this horrid noise clunked that badly.

Put her up on the hoist this morning (thanks Richard ;) ) and saw what was wrong.

I thought it was the front right, but it was actually the front left. The link pink now had bent 90 degrees.

I'm assuming it was slowly doing itself, and the side affected on the left, was pulling the right.

Anyway, its all good now to a $50 replacement kit from repco, where the link pins are at least 50% fatter than the OEM ones.

And for installing it, nothing makes it easier than a hoist, to raise, check, and lower to enable you to do the bottoms up, with proper respect to how it will sit on the road.

The noise that has driven me fricken mental for 18 months (I don't have a stereo in the car), has now gone !!!
Now that the noise has gone, i'm re-evaluating my need to upgrade my suspension.

If I dont, that means i'm saving atleast 2 grand!!! (Closer to 3)

I love my hoist :)

As you say Richard, its paid for itself

They make a huge racket the old link pins. I hadnt heard the noise before when I had issues and thought the front of my car was going to fall out. Then it just turned out to be a link pin and I felt quite the goose :o

Daniel, What brand were those link pins? I am going to get Russo to replace mine as a preventative maintenance measure. With all the circuit work the car has done, they've copped a flogging. No noticeable noise, but don't need one failing at an inopportune moment. And one stronger than OE would be a bonus.
