Hi Guys,

Eric, I'm with you, nothing fancy about my wheels, but a hell lot of fun never the less. Here are a couple of shots of the SS. Has extractors and exhaust, ceramic clutch, diff (3.9s), cross drilled and slotted rotors on front, tune, cold air intake and K&N filter. Currently putting out 247kw at the wheels.

Going through a sell or keep debate with myself at the moment. If I decide to keep, it is going straight to the shop for some long awaited mods.

Sure is Erik. My first ever drive day in the beast (notice it doesn't even have tints yet as it was a company car in its previous life).

That was also the same day we did a burnout that caused the rural bush fire service to come by and have a look :flame: ... (felt bad about that as the boys do a good and important job).

If I recall, Duncan also had a bit of fun in his black beast...

Its not the most imposing system but with the roller blind covering the cargo area the whole lot is invisible, just the way I like it but it really cranks out.

Looks like a very worthwhile mod. I've currently got a V8O sticker on my rear window, that'd be a worthy replacement.

Hey everyone, instead of introducing myself on the new members thread I thought I'd kill 2 birds with 1 stone...introduce me and my car!! For those that don't know me, I'm Gill (Bomi's BETTER other half) and unfortunately I don't own a V8! I do, however, get to drive Bomi's from time to time and enjoy it immensely! Just can't afford one on a nurses wage!

Anyhoo, my car is a lovely little 1997 Toyota Corolla Hatchback!!

Yes you heard right. :yep:

Maroon
1.6L 4 cylinder engine...with extractors I might add!!
5 speed manual.

I'm not sure what future mods are in store for my little Rolla... but I have a feeling Bomi is thinking about it..

Not sure it's really worthy of a picture just yet...maybe I'll take her round Wakefield one day and post up a picture of that

What you need to do is steal a few of Bomi's cylinders, he has 8 and you have 4, pinch 2 of his and you can have 6 each.

I feel abit out of place here amongst all these newer cars
My newest car is a 79 VB commodore wagon that I use as a towcar
8 cars and the newest one is 27 years old !!

Once car at a time I guess
Lets start with ....... a datto
1967 Datsun 1000 2 door sedan
Tube chassis sports sedan
Torana LJ front uprights and brakes
Datsun A15 (1526 cc ) engine with twin webers and many other tricks
Sadly only dyno'd at 98.7hp atw at the moment but the change to EFI and upgrade from 9:1 comp to 11.5:1 will make it wake up abit.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~dattoman_1000/images/yellow/y1%20(8).jpg

Next one
1976 SS Torana hatchback
Currently in 1 000 000 pieces and getting a rebuild restore repower
Will be sporting a 385 cu Chev Smallblock with Patriot alloy heads and efi
Estimated HP approx 500hp
T350 box
BW78 diff with spool
330mm front discs with AP 4 pot calipers
315mm rear discs with AP 4 pot calipers

Essentially the car will look as per this next pic but will have 17" GTS replica wheels and orginal SS stripes and paintouts. NO flares, scoops except the factory 2 piece front chin spoiler
The car will look "almost stock" but go stop and handle well.

Have only had it on the track a couple of times for a bit of fun and that will do. Back to every day duties for it. "No family cars on the race track"... says my Wife!

Plenty more time to come from the Corona, you'll see the vids as they get posted throughout 2007. Hopefully will get some in car footage next Thurs (14th) at Wakefield.

Hello guys.
I purchased a Porsche 928s 1984, grand prix weiss, about 3.5 years ago. My first sports car. "batism of fire" when it came to fix ups.
It was the first vehicle to come with ABS ( Anti-Block Skidding) as an option, later years they come with it as standard. The original owner parted with 160k to own Stutgarts finest at the time. To my benefit 20 years later it didn't cost that much at all. ( Thank god )

Hey Guys, when it comes to my car i can be a little biased. So i looked up some one else's research. Please find a text cut post below from of the Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
check out the olink if you are interested.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT_car

Regards
Ant
( PS i hope the text is not to long and boring for others i have had to reduce the text to fit on the web site, check out the full document if interested.)

Text starts here:
Porsche 928
Manufacturer: Porsche
Production: 1978?1995
Class: GT car
Body style: 2-door coupe
Platform: front-engine rear wheel drive
Engine:
4.5 L V8
4.7 L V8
5.0 L V8
5.4 L V8

The Porsche 928 is a grand tourer automobile made by Porsche AG of Germany from 1978 to 1995, during which time it was one of their most expensive offerings.

The 928 was sometimes called either shark or land shark, due both to its shark-like appearance and its ability to "eat up" large segments of road in very little time. Porsche's marketing slogan "It's about as fast as you can go without having to eat airline food" from the late 1980s where at one point it was the fastest production road-car in the world, having been recorded at 172mph on the salt flats in Utah in 1986 using an early 928 S4. This particular car, for some strange reason was originally white but was sprayed red for the record attempt. This awesome feat sparked additional subtle aviational references to it in everyday speech.
Contents

Conception

By the late 1960s, Porsche had changed significantly as a company, and executives including owner Ferry Porsche were toying with the idea of adding a luxury touring car to the line-up. Managing Director Ernst Fuhrmann was also pressuring Ferdinand to "greenlight" development of the new model in light of concerns that the current flagship at the time, the 911, was quickly reaching its maximum potential where it could soon no longer be improved upon. Slumping sales of the 911 seemed to confirm that the model was approaching the end of its economical life cycle. Fuhrmann envisioned the new range-topping model as being the best possible combination of a sports coupe and a luxury sedan, something well equipped and comfortable enough to be easily driven over long distances that also had the power, poise and handling prowess necessary to be driven like a sports car. This set it apart from the 911, which was a pure sports car.

Ordered by Ferry Porsche to come up with a production-feasible concept for his new model, Fuhrmann initiated a design study in 1971, eventually taking from the process the final specs for the 928. Several drivetrain layouts were considered during early development, including rear and mid-engined designs, but most were dismissed because of technical and/or legislative difficulties. Having the engine, transmission, catalytic converter(s) and exhaust all cramped into a small rear engine bay made emission and noise control more difficult, something Porsche was already facing problems with on the 911 and wanted to avoid. After deciding that the mid-engine layout didn't allow enough room in the passenger compartment, a front engine/rear wheel drive layout was chosen. Porsche also feared at the time that the U.S. government would ban the sale of rear-engined cars in response to the consumer outrage over the Chevrolet Corvair, started by Ralph Nader via his book "Unsafe at Any Speed".

Porsche engineers wanted a large-displacement motor to power the 928, and prototype units were built with a 5.0 L V8 producing close to 300 hp. Very early units used one four-barrel carburetor, which was eventually tossed in favor of Bosch's K-Jetronic fuel injection system. When increasing concern within the company over the pricing and availability of fuel during the oil crisis of the 1970s became an issue of contention, smaller engines were considered in the interest of fuel economy. Some managers began pushing for development of a 3.3 L 180 hp powerplant they had drawn up specs for, but company engineers balked at this suggestion. Both sides finally settled on a 4.5 L, SOHC 16-valve V8 producing 240 PS (219 hp in North America), which they considered to have an acceptable compromise of performance and fuel economy.

The finished car debuted at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show before going on sale later that year as a 1978 model. Although it won early acclaim for its comfort and power, sales were slow. Base prices were much higher than that of the previous range-topping model and its larger size and somewhat odd futuristic styling put off many purists who were more attracted to the compact and efficient 911 sports car.

Fuhrman's replacement, Peter Schutz, decided that the models should be sold side by side, feeling that the 911 still had potential in the company's line-up. Legislation against rear-engined vehicles also didn't materialize. Although the 928 developed an avid fan following, it never sold in the numbers that Fuhrmann had originally predicted and was discontinued in 1995. The size of the market for expensive and extravagant grand tourers has increased since then, and the company is again looking to capture this market with the Porsche Panamera four-door GT.

Design

The 928 featured a large, front-mounted and water-cooled, V8 engine driving the rear wheels. Originally displacing 4.5 L and featuring a single overhead camshaft, it produced 219 hp (163 kW/222 PS) for the North American market and 240 PS (176 kW/237 hp) in other markets. Porsche upgraded the engine from mechanical to electronic fuel injection in 1980 for US models, although power remained the same. This design marked a major change in direction for Porsche (started with the introduction of the 924 in 1976), whose cars had until then used only rear- or mid-mounted air-cooled flat engines with four or six cylinders.

Porsche utilized a transaxle in the 928 to help achieve 50/50 front/rear weight distribution, aiding the car's balance. Although it weighed more than the difficult to handle 911, its more neutral weight balance and higher power output gave it similar performance on the track in the hands of all but the most skilled drivers. The 928 was regarded as the more relaxing car to drive at the time. It came with either a five-speed dog leg manual transmission, or a Mercedes-Benz-derived automatic transmission, originally with three speeds, later with four. Most cars were specified with the automatic transmission.

The body, styled by Wolfgang M?bius under guidance of Anatole Lapine, was mainly galvanised steel, but the doors, front fenders and hood were aluminium. It had a substantial luggage area accessed via a large hatchback. The new polyurethane elastic bumpers were integrated into the nose and tail and covered in body-coloured plastic; an unusual feature for the time that aided the car visually and reduced its drag. Porsche opted not to offer a convertible variant but some aftermarket modifiers offer convertible conversions.

The 928 qualified as a 2+2, having two small seats in the rear. Both rear seats could be folded down to enlarge the luggage area, and both the front and rear seats had sun visors for occupants. The 928 was also the first vehicle in which the instrument binnacle moved with the adjustable steering wheel, a feature seen more recently on Nissan's 350Z sports car.

The 928 included several other innovations such as the "Weissach Axle", an early all-wheel steering system that provides passive rear-wheel steering in certain off-throttle cornering situations, and an unsleeved, silicon alloy engine block made of aluminium, which reduced weight and provided a highly durable cylinder bore. The concept of all-wheel steering was also adopted later on to several Japanese automobiles, including a Japanese-market version of the Toyota Celica, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 and the second generation Nissan 300ZX.

With the release of the Cayenne sports utility vehicle, Porsche has met with renewed success with a front-engined, V8-powered model. The company's 2005 announcement that a new V8-powered 4-door grand tourer model called Panamera would be launched in 2009 fueled rumours and fan speculation of a reborn 928. Although the Panamera will be a 4-door model, Road and Track magazine published a speculative piece in their April 2006 issue in regards to the possibility of a new, 928-esque coupe that may debut on a shortened version of the Panamera's platform sometime around the 2011 or 2012 model years. Although feasible, this is pure speculation as of 2006. The article seemed to indicate a re-use of the 928 nameplate although Porsche's recent tendency to give non-numerical names to their vehicles and a desire to separate the vehicle from past models may preclude the possibility of calling the vehicle 928.

1984

* Model designation: 928 S/928 S2 UK
* Weight: 3300 lb (1500 kg)
* Engine displacement: 4.7 L
* Valves: 16
* Power: 239 hp (174 kW) @ 5200 rpm North America / 310 PS (228 kW) ROW
* Changes:
o LH-Jetronic injection and 4-speed automatic transmission added to the ROW model. Torque tube shortened like on US model in previous year.
o ABS brakes optional for the first time in Porsche.
o At 146 mph (235 km/h) US model top speed, Porsche boldly claims the 928 S to be "the fastest street legal production car sold in the US".
o Important safety related change to front suspension lower ball joints on all cars in September 1983.
o EZF ignition system developed for 1985 5.0 Liter US model makes debut on 1984 4.7 liter ROW cars, dual distributors. This allows higher compression and increased torque.

I WAS serious when I said that... you wont be the slowest and you wont be the fastest... it'd be interesting to compare though. I seriously looked at an XR6T when I decide to buy a car. (I bought a 'car' as I'd changed boats and didn't need a serious tow vehicle anymore). I bought an SS.... and was disappointed... so I improved it 'a bit'.

Echo those sentiments not enough Blue Oval guys enjoying their cars tried to talk a work colleague into bringing his XR6T out but he was unavailable.

I love it - "improved it a bit" whenever I am bragging about a sleeper I always use your car as the quintessential sleeper (hope you dont mind)...... sort of the best of both worlds hey call it the SS-T. could be marketing in that, not only is it the sound the car makes but so does the driver when they sink the foot in SSSSSShiiiiiiiTTTTTTTT.

2 Months before i sold it, i spent 2500 on adjustable suspension (rear end is PITA torsion beam) And 3000 on the compomotive wheel and tyre combo.... then sold it :(

Wish I still had it!

Scuse ignorance... but what's Caltracs

Caltracs are traction bars that go on the rear leaf springs connect under the axel and go forward and connect to front leaf mount under the leaf on the car to stop axel wind up and also help to transfer weight onto the rear tyres .

Ok seem as though i was asked here ya go...as many of you would have seen on 'The Forum' my car is a may 2004 VYII One Tonner with a built 346ci(Ross forgies, eagle rods, full balance and heads that have been cleaned up whatever the hell that means)and a 228/232 cam and the larger GenTTR twin turbo kit all being fed by twin Bosch 044's,4litre(apprx) surge tank and aeromotive fuel rails with 60lbs injectors, reverse patern manual Turbo400 with a 3500rpm non lock-up dominator converter...(motor also has APR head/bottom end stud kits).tune by Tuna on a 34degree day to 403RWK at 11psi which i was happy with given the extreme nature of the Turbo400 converter combo and hot weather...my Tonner is driven every day and probably the only thing that is not 100% steetable is the full 4" exhaust(twin 3" off the turbo dumps into 4") and maybe the converter is a bit on the large side but the Tonner is quite fast and tips the scales at 1600kgs most of the time(until my 117kgs squashes the seat)..ok some pics(sorry for the ramble)

She's a dead stock A4 VZ SS, picked her up a month or so ago with less than 20,000kms on the clock. Spun up 211rwkw at the CHE dyno day last Saturday, i was suitably impressed !!

Looking forward to having Dale unleash a few more ponies in the near future, just finishing a full reno on the house before the girlfriend gets off my case and lets me spend some cash on cars again... :whip:

And my pride and joy is here - www.teamchaparral.com.au

With the help of some really great mates we built from scratch an Improved Production RX-7 which i raced in the NSW State Championship...

Best lap time at Wakefield was a 1.08.4, which is ok for n/a bridgeport on 205/60/15's i guess - and the car was definetly faster than the driver...

One of favourite shots is this one -

http://www.teamchaparral.com.au/images/gallery-19.gif

Video page is here -

http://www.teamchaparral.com.au/ipra-video.htm

The "Boppa" one is just me being a goose and the odd racing clip, including a major dorifto / crash at Wakefield... :bravo:

The rest are mates with the focus on circuit and drag racing... :)

Hoping to do some drag racing with the SS, and build an IPRA spec Commodore to go racing again in a few years. In the meantime i've bought a Rotax kart to keep me occupied... :waving:

Hey All,

This is my car. RB25DET, R34 GTT 5spd gearbox and sprung centre BB clutch, 600 x 300 x 75 hybrid cooler, 3 inch cat back exhaust, VT brakes all round, lowered on king springs, 28 spline minispool (3.9's), mines ecu, FR18's, battery in boot, standard series II interior. Completely restored the exterior.

http://i19.tinypic.com/2gsforp.jpg

This is my other one. I built this myself in my garage from a bare shell. RB30ET, R33 GTST 5spd box, 600 x 300 x 75 hybrid cooler, 2.5" cat back exhaust, 28 spline LSD diff (3.45's), DBA slotted rotors, series II calais interior. Made 200rwkw on 14psi. Also ran a 12.9 @ 106mph. Did plenty of wakefield park track days in it. Not everyone's cup of tea but i put a heap of work into it none the less.

http://i3.tinypic.com/2njj3nm.jpg

Nice VL Calais MIZ_RB, I had 2 VL Calais Turbo myself many moons ago. First one got nicked which was painful. I still sometimes think of building either an RB26 or LS1 powered VL Calais for racing. However if your trading up I would go an S15, so much better looking then either S14 model. But that is just my opinion.

Your Purple VL looks really familiar to me? Has it been in a commodore magazine ages ago?

Thanks guys. Yes, it's a smart little car. The wheels are 17x7 vs the OE 16x6.5 so they do look a bit better. I'm waiting for matching silver caps for the centres instead of the chrome ones too - should look better. Treasure came home in tears yesterday - beat around the bush and wouldn't own-up what was wrong....finally blurted out that she'd damaged it ....Opened the door on a hill and the big heavy door swung open by itself and crunched a telegraph post....:headbang: It's not too bad, but very annoying. Still - it's christened now so don't have to fuss so much...

Here's my baby:
2002 Monaro M6
It was built by the Monaro Performance Centre as a gift for the late Trevor Young of Biante Model Cars (hence the colour).
It was built to the same spec as the '02 Targa Tasmania Monaro's - road going version (minus cage, seats, diff and harnesses).
I stuck a Kaaz with 3.9's in it as soon as I bought it.
It spent a week at Sonny's in December last year to get a freshen up which included a Sonny cam, OTR, Comp 918's, Comp pushrods, Yella Terra roller rockers, mafless tune and a ripshift.
Then went back to Sonny a month ago for a Tex Z grip.
It sits on Eibach springs with Bilsteins, has 355mm 6 piston Harrops on the front and 335mm 4 piston Alcons on the rear as well as Holden Motorsport power steering cooler.

Future mods are likely to be a Lunati Strocker of some description, still undecided and paying off the credit card.
I have 4 sets of wheels for it, currently running 18X9 Modena's on 245 SO3's.

That's a hell of modification list you have there.
I've seen you on Ls1 before, what does that thing run down the 1/4?

I havnt taking it to the strip for a while because the suspensions not suited to drag work but last time it ran an 11.5 @123.8mph on et streets. I cant see it going any quicker because the suspensions geting further away from where it should be for drag racing and im not going to pull the brakes off to put slicks on.

123.8 mph says it all.

Mine's run 11.1 at 124 mph (full weight on 16" radials) and it's not set up for drag work either. Your's is an easy 10 sec car

Here is another car of mine.
I bought it 18 months ago and it has become a piece of furniture rather than a toy.
It is not registered and I keep changing my mind about whether to keep it or sell it.
It has a QT engine # (HQ-HZ) so I don't think it is eligible for rego in NSW.
The 355 stroker in it is only 2,000k's old and it has forged internals running around 205rwkw.
At 1300kg I think it would be quite the weapon around the track but the M21 and 10 bolt diff may not be up to the task.
It is a replica of the '83 Bathurst winning car (Brock, Perkins, Harvey).
It is an original HDT VH Group3 but does not have the original engine.

Until they found out you wanted money for it, I still reckon you should have swapped it for that long neck of VB.
