Ive previously run on 2nd hand A048's (they were atleast down to the treadwear marker when i got them). Ive got a pair of 75% RE55's in SR (rear) and i will be purchasing another pair of RE55's new (front).

What sort of lap time reduction should i be aiming for?

Now i know most of you guys wouldnt have run at Winton (it is a tight technical circuit fyi) but your experience from wakefield would be greatly apreciated)

I think Erik dropped about 2 or 3 seconds a lap with RE55's (Wakefield) - I remember when he ran his first 1:11 around there.

Thanks for the quick reply.

He saved 2 seconds going from A048's to RE55's? WOW!!!!
OR
He saved 2 seconds going from Street tyres to Re55's?

Has anyone else had experience with both?

Erik will need to confirm but i think they were at least 2 seconds better than the A048's yes. We got the a048's from the V8 Ute series (used) so perhaps new 48's might go better. Then again Erik was running used RE55's

I had My first run (2 laps) around Winton at the VIC dutton last weekend, I was using Dunlop semi's Hard compound and I did a 1.39.45. brand new semi's should drop your lap time, just make sure you road them to get the best out of them.

John, I cant believe how well your ute handled - I expected tail out action everywhere. Your mate in the supercharged Clubby definitely had some tail out fun though :D

1.39 is impresive first time out most of the HSV owners club guys with your level of mods are around 37-39 with a lot more experience on that track.
Im trying for a 1.40 before I add any power, then when I get a tune and otr intake (maybe a cam and diff gears to :D ) ill realy appreciate it.

Its amazing how many people say that to me! its not taily at all really, since changing the front springs it a bit to soft in the rear but I hope to fix that soon.

I would love to spend a full a day at winton, 2 laps is not enough!

Winton is a great track to try and do quickly in a commodore (or get a bit taily :burnout: ) You could definetlay spend a whole day there.
I went down to Sandown but realy didnt get to see much becuase i got there in the afternoon.

Winton has open days like Wakefield. See here: http://www.wintonmotorraceway.com.au/home/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34&Itemid=51

That link refers to the test and tune days - usually Fridays - and costs you $120 per person, plus you need an AASA Club Racing licence which can be purchased at Winton ($50). The Fun Days cost $25 for the day, a current drivers licence is all that's needed as well as the usual track day clothing/helmet etc. The Fun Days happen in January, July and December each year and are a great event!! But I'm biased. :D

I shaved 3 seconds off my lap time at Wakey with my second hand RE55's when compared to my PB there on road tyres.

John, here's a link to the Fun Day FAQ's section on the Winton website, all your questions will be answered there. Cheers, Scott.

Mate, if you keep it on the track and keep it relatively tidy, I ask the question, How are they going to know how hard you are going??? :whip: :up2sum:

Put it this way, I was pushing my Evo last time I was there until I had no brakes and no grip left and had to limp it back to the pits after a couple of cool down laps. I was going hard enough for a bunch of guys to gather at turn 3 to egg me on every lap :lmao:
