View Full Version : Sydney track days?

Anyone know of any Sydney (Oran Park, Eastern Creek, Wakey) track days coming up soon. Only catch is I have a mate that's a first timer so a Dutton practice type event probably won't suit. I've heard of one on the 18th November somewhere, thats all I know. Thanks guys.

I should have my new top end done by Russo by then (cnc'd LS7 heads and LS7 intake)

Do you need to book in and reserva a spot on these days? I've never done an open day, only ones organised by other organisations. How much? Maybe I should try their website. Anyway hope to see you there, I'll be in a Maroon EL XR6. I'm around 6 foot tall, I'm a Libra and I like to take walks on the beach at sunset....

This one is a public open day (you can check the Wakefield calendar on their website for a list of open days). The cool thing about these days is, you just arrive and drive - you don’t need to pre-book or pay upfront. So if you can't make it on the day, no dramas just don’t go.

Thanks, had a look at the site, theres plenty of days coming up. I imagine the weekday ones are a fair bit quieter than weekend ones. Is there a limit on numbers and do you get plenty of track time? Sorry about all the questions, I promise I'll do something worthy of starting a thread about!

Hey lugenpopper.... :waving:

A group of us from another forum are organising to meet @ Wakefiled on the Saturday the 17th.

So far we have about 12-14 people so please feel free to let me know if you want to come along.

Weekdays are usually a lot quieter for sure. Ordinarily there are 3x20 minute sessions per hour (one for race cars, one for open wheelers and one for road cars). If there are more than 15 road cars, they limit the sessions to 15 minutes and have two groups. I've been to an open day where i had about 100 laps!

A private day is still much better (vs open day) at Wakefield though, you don't have to cram all road cars on the track - in one 20 minute session - you just come and go as you please. Naturally there is 3x more track time on the private days.

HSV271 - any more details? :D

Hey evil_weevil,

Not sure what details you are after but.... the date is Saturday the 17th November. Day starts @ 9am and finishes at 4pm. I suggest you get there by 8:30am. Cost is $120 for the day + $50 for Wakefield license, total of $170. You will need a helmet & long sleeve shirt, long pants, closed shoes.

So far we have 10(committed) +3 have said yes but not put their names down... in the end it's just another "Speed Of The Street" day for the guy's @ Wakefield. When I talked to them on Friday (Chris) that said if we get the 17 cars then we will have the track to ourselves for the 15 mins each hour.

If not, then they will just add in people off the street to make up the numbers which is fair enough. So the more members and member?s mates who attend, the more of "our" cars there will be on track!

Hi HSV271,
Speed off the street days for weekends is $120.00 plus $50.00 Wakefield Licence per person. At this stage we cannot say about a separate session we will have to see how many we end up with on the day.

OK, you can count 2 more in for the 17th Nov. It will be the first track experience for the friend that's coming along...in a new auto Camry, should be interesting. I take it all you guys will be LS1 Commo's, will be a good performace comparison if nothing else. See you there.

Let us know if you can make it? ;)

There is some pretty good info to be found on ls1.com.au, only problem is as a novice to the whole car scene when aksing questions... you get told do a search or read the stickys which makes you feel a little stupid... so now I don't ask. Which has made the whole forum thing a little dull for me. :(

Gee, $275  is a little steep for the average bloke. Might have to miss paying the electricity bill to go to that one. I thought that it was only $120 for the track days for CAMS L2S licensed drivers/cars @ Eastern Creek?

I think that's on designated L2S practice days. Not sure how often these are held, nor the cost.

Hello All,

Just a little over two weeks to go... also just a reminder that we are receiving a discount compared to the normal weekend rate so don?t miss out.

Normally ? Speed off the Street Days (Open Practice) is:-
? $100.00 for the day (cars) & $110.00 for the day (bikes - weekdays) $150 for the day (cars & bikes - weekends & public holidays)
? $50.00 for a Wakefield Clubcomp Licence valid for 12 months
? Helmet hire available for $20 per day with a $50 Deposit

For us it?s only $120 + $50.00 for a Wakefield Licence valid for 12 months, so next time you only pay $100. :woot:

So if you have never done this(Like me.... :D) and want to see what your ride can do on the track, safely in a controlled environment, without fear of hurting anyone on the street and go at your own pace with people you know from the forum... as well as putting faces to forum names and not having to lose a day?s work. Put you name on the list.....

I believe only those on the list will get the discount... list goes to Chris @ Wakefield, by email, on the 12th Nov(Monday).... so... get in quick.

PLEASE READ the Wakefield regulations about "Speed Off The Street" days as I would hate you to miss out because you came wearing short/thongs.

Cheers :burnout::burnout:

Below is where I will be there @/Approx. 8-830am(depending on the traffic in the morning out of Sydney), it’s just after you go under the freeway on Braidwood Rd(Facing south), about 8km from the track. Be on the lookout for a British Racing Green VXR8.

Thanks to the boys that did turn up and the guys that we met during the day.... it was a blast.

All sorts were there... Japan was well represented(STi?s, Evo?s, GTR?s, RX7?s, Honda?s, Toyota's even a Mazda 2) to Euro?s(BMW, Mini, Audi, Peugot, Lotus even a Golf RS32 with full slicks) and then us in our LS1?s, 5.0?s and El XR6 that sound like an 8... The VK Commodore WANGON!!! Yep Wagon... in the afternoon session was a scream.

Some did not even last the morning session like a VL5.0, Honda Integra GTR... even an Evo had terminal water issues.

After midday most had gone so the track was clearer and got a few more laps in per session, which was great for me as I got a chance to try a few different lines without having to worry about others on the track. Brakes are fine, Motor didn't miss a beat, Gearbox/Clutch survived and tyres are rooted though. :lmao:

LSX-438... All I got to say is... What a monster car you have, if only I had the cash, I still reckon a couple of Garret Turbo?s would make it go harder.
LSavvy... Now I want a cam, Heads and tune, got to go and see one of the sponsors and get it done sooner rather than later.
lugenpopper... I wanted to see the cortina mate, but the XR6 was a blast from the past. Your mate in the Camry seems to have thoroughly enjoyed himself, I see him doing this again.

Yeap, was an awsome day,
Duncs engine sounds mean and he can get the car around there at a time i wish i could get close to:shock: , Even managed to put the ute into 4wd mode a couple of times pushing my street tyres to the limit, will definently look into track tyres for the next one!

And no damage to report from any of us:bravo:

Couldn't ask for much more, a day at the track, great weather, great company AND nothing broken! Really good to meet you guys, perhaps we can arrange a private day in the not too distant future.

I managed to shave 3/10ths off my PB for a 1:09.4 in the first session, and spent the rest of the day trying to go faster (but couldn't manage it). Hopefully a decent set of coilovers for next time and we'll see 8's finally.

BIG THANKS to Chris and Justin Russo for pulling out my front suspension the day before, it turns out the front left top mount (noltec offset) bearing was collapsed. Russo installed the stocker gear and it seems to have done the job ok (albeit less 1* of camber).

Here is some in-car video from later in the day, one of those infrequent clear laps, a bit of sloppy driving on the final turn but whatever! (this was a low 10 i think). I'll try and post up some more video later, navigating through all the jap awd turbo's and wot-not...

Good work Dunc. Knocking on the 1:08 door :bravo:.

Can hear how much - read how little - throttle you are using out of the fish-hook  . I used to be WOT in 3rd out of there with basically zero wheelspin, such is the power differential. Also exactly where my oil light used to come on with the cornering load :headbang: .

Thanks all the guys involved, I had a ball. I'm also happy to report that my French friend (who just got his pilots license), said it was more fun than flying! Its always great fun to get on the track in street cars and just throw them around. The fact that the brakes don't work after 4 big stops doesn't seem to matter when everyone's having so much fun. We bought a CD from the track photographers so I'll post pics when it arrives. The biggest surpise of the day was undoubtedly my lap in a auto Camry, not half as bad as I thought. And the stroker Monaro...what a weapon!

I think we can all agree in this case the truth should not get in the way of a good story. "Remember that time we were at Wakefield and the guy in the stock auto Camry was lifting the inside front...". The guy has just got his pilots license and insisted on driving one handed like a plane, he had the other hand on the console for support. it was pretty impressive for his first track experience.
