View Full Version : Track Day [Syd] Eastern Creek, Sat 4-Nov-06
A colleague of mine has organised an open track day (circuit) at Eastern Creek, Saturday November 4th. I believe there are some spare places available. I have booked a spot; i believe we might see Mr Bus Racer and the Russo Performance guys out for a look see, we can have lunch etc. Anyone who wants to come see what it is all about, just ask!
Price for drivers is $200 for the whole day, PM me for details.

Would love to Dunc ... but as indicated earlier, I have a good mates 30th on that day.
2006 is very quickly becoming the year of "no track days" for me. Oh well, next year if for some reason the Coupe isn't right, I'll take GTS ...
Hey Dunc, Im in for this one.
Sway bar going in this weekend, Rotor now 100%, new pads on, brake flush happening on Saturday and Im looking forward to having a spin on some proper track tyres.
Lemmi know when and how you want the $200.

Will confirm tomorrow morning Troy (that places are still available) and send through the details. Money goes to Stav.
Hi Dunc,
Just to add to this. There are still spots left. In essennce, we will have 20 cars in total for a private 20min/hour session for the whole day on Saturday the 4th November. By doing this, we were actually able to get the track for $200 per car (public day cars on the different sessions that day are paying $250.) For anybody that is interested, feel free to contact me direct and we can arrange the details.
Personally I can't wait. I was at the last Wakefield day with some of you and had a blast.
Cheers,
Stav.
Well I was set for a big day, after a new set of brakes and tyres; I was looking forward to a new PB. But it just wasnt going to happen...
Right from the first session it started raining; so i pulled back into the pits, and stayed there most of the day. Of course that didnt stop BOMI, who scared the crap out of me, and that was just watching him thunder down the straight, full pelt, in the rain. I believe Troy managed a 2:01 or thereabouts (IN THE WET) so well done mate.
After BOMI's ball buster session; the instructors called us for a lecture :) so as we were given the proverbials, what should we spy out the corner of our eye coming down the end of the straight - at a rather "unnatural" angle, around 150km/h? A newish banana coloured CV8 heading staight for the wall, just metres away.
After a horrid sickening greasy slushy skid, and THUD, with panels flying, we have a virtually destroyed CV8 before us (thankfully, driver apparently unharmed, and walked away). I have some pics in my camera, but I got to tell ya, not something i want see again. Average speed for all drivers subsequently decreased.. (even BOMI's - just a little itty bitty tad). So for me, no action whatsoever today; and for my money, vindicated as above.
But yet again BOMI showed us how big his coconuts are are in the wet. I've installed a new avatar for you Bomi, I think it is appropriate.
Thanks to Chris Stav and Nick (friend of Chris) for the opportunity today; hopefully next one we get some dry sessions.

Big coconuts don't help when you hit concrete Bomi ...
I'm with you Dunc, if it's raining, I'm watching. The very best in the world have come horribly unstuck in the wet, it's just not worth it. Especially at Eastern Creek, way too much speed and way too much concrete.
Good to hear you all got away unscathed, sorry to hear about the CV8, look forward to some pics / vids of the day.

I am sooo not going to be a spectator next time. Was tempted to roll Dunc for his keys :up2sum: .
I think we have a new circuit recruit in Phil (Bok1). Save for the CV8 stack, he's quite keen for next Wakefield outing .

Thanks for the concern Dads :)
Dunc is over exagerating, it was only spitting when I went out in the first session with his RE 55's on.
That being said, I only had one chance at a drive with RE 55's so yes I pushed it and pushed it hard but not beyond MY driving ability.
Dunc you failed to mention the glowing Orange rotors, man that would have made a good pic!!
Thanks again to Dunc for letting me christen his brand spankin new RE 55's.
THEY ARE AWESOME TYRES!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong BOMI. you did well. And well yes, you were not the only reason we got a lecture! Good driving man. Way beyond my ability there. I tried to get a good shot of the rotors, so much so I never actually got to see them! i tried every lap when the guys told me.

Dont forget Eriks rims too. The mightbe good out of the box fresh, but greatly worn I reckon teh RE55's are worse (vs a road tyre). I tried them at Wakefield and it was like driving on ice.

Great footage guys despite the inclement weather. You have to feel for the poor guy with the CV8. Nasty.
You are a scarey scarey man Troy. :werd:
Sorry to have not been able to partake, maybe next year.

That looked like an absolute blast.
Troy,
Was there anyone you didn't round up :) and BTW what was you overspeed alert set to I noticed it going off a few times.
Gotto feel for the Munro driver - least he was alright.
Luke the chime you could here was the over speed alarm which is set at 110 KM/H.
Its handy to know what speed you are doing without looking down at the speedo.
You have to get the Mini out to a track sometime mate :stick: :)

Erik I totaly forgot they were your rims.
Thanks to Mitta E also
So the RE 55's get a bit skatey when old hey? Well I think that the good handling leading up to them being worn out would have to make up for it.
Dunc, thanks for trying to get the shots of the glowing brakes mate!
Next time :up2sum:

G'day all.
It was good to see everyone out there, dispite the heavens opening up on us.
As i was saying to Erik on the day troy man do you take Speed before you go out on the track? I mean i know i lectured you at maccas about piss testing but i mean common man we all know drugs are bad mmmmkay :teach:
Im defiantly up for a skid pan day or a day down at Wakefield by the end of the year - my $50 tyres will need replacing by then haha so might as well fry them and have fun yeh? Im sure you will all be keen to have a crack in the silver bullet :lmao:

Here is a little pic of the bent banana monaro from the weekend, the poor guy. Apparently it is confirmed, he changed from 4th to 3rd, compression lockup, expensive mistake..

Ouch! :( Write-off?
Poor guy. :(

Uninsured too ... track day ... poor bugger. The whole chassis looks twisted.
Felt sorry for this bloke. To me it looked like he came in too hot and shifted down when he was already starting to turn in. Didn't have a chance the poor bastard.
For those that are interested, the track photos from jpm are available at http://www.jpmphoto.com.au

What's yellow and looks like a banana? Ordinarily the answer would be...a banana but in this case...OMFG ! :eyes:
That one's a throw away I fear & thus the perils of playing on a circuit in your road registered car were never more apparent.
Zero insurance cover unless his insurer is very very understanding, I really feel for the guy plus I bet he is a sore camper today after an impact like that. Good decision pulling the pin as you did Dunc, most wise and learn-ed indeed. Aint not track day that's worth ending like that. :werd:
well, i guess this guy just made a very simple mistake.. something everyone has done at one time or another on the track.
unfortunately a simple mistake can turn into a really big problem on a greasy eastern creek circuit, especially turn 1
that's why wakefield is better for us mere amateurs, lower speed & no concrete..
Hi All, I have just uploaded my first clip from the track day on the 4th. Here is the link for it. The sound is great as I overtake the porsche. Turn it up!

I'll try to get some more snippets up over the next week or so.
Cheers,
Stav.
For those who attended track day, there was another photographer that was around. Here are the details. I saw some of his shot and they were pretty good.
"Hey Stav,
Not sure if you spoke to this guy or not?. His name is Kyle?
He was walking around the track taking pics.
He emailed me this morning with some beauties?.I?ve attached them so u can see the quality.
Drop him an email Kyle Sharp [ksphoto@tpg.com.au] and tell him what car you had and he?ll forward them onto you. His work is pretty cheap as well?
Might be worth posting it up on the forum for the boys to get some extra fotos?
"
Thanks to Ben for giving us the details.
Hi guys! :burnout:
Finally made it down here to your forum!
Thanks for the referrals Troy and Ben :)
Unfortunately, the weather was not desirable, for both you entrants and us photographers.. :(
I grabbed a couple of shots, but not as many as id liked..due to weather..
I'll definitely be at the next event though, camera in hand.
I've put my photos up on flickr temporarily, whilst new website is being built..

Hey Kyle, great pics mate and yep thats me!!
Look forward to seeing some more from the day.
Troy :)
I will have a couple more on the way, from a goof mate who was also with me shooting :)
Will post up once I get them
I'd best create an intro thread in general also :)
Thanks Kyle, I'll check out your site for any photos of the SS. I emailed you earlier today also.
Thanks. The photos Ben sent me looked great.
Stav, I liked your footage from the day mate!!
I liked the angle that you had the camera on.
Did you go with the tripod improvised mount??
Looked good being that high.
Troy :)
Thanks Troy. After my attempts at mounting the camera in the head rest at Wakefield, and filming nothing but sky :headbang: , I thought the skinny passanger with three legs would be better... I have 40 minutes worth of tape. I want to make a short compilation but don't have much disk space left to load the raw footage... I'll try to get something together soon and post it also.
I posted that snippet cause I loved the sound.
BTW, what editing software do you use?
-- Stav.
Mate I use the very basic but effective "Windows movie maker".
Looking forward to see the footage man!!
Troy:)

Nice footage, Chris. What gears you running? Stock 3.46? Sounded like you didn't hit 5th. With 3.9's, I found that 4th gear runs out rather quick ie ~195km/h.
3.9s it is. I was braking nice and early so ran out of track for 5th... Top speed I hit was around 185km/h.... My first time out in the wet, I had balls like grapes unlike "Titanium Troy"

More pics to, good work man!!
Troy :)
He is keen, he loves it :D
I'll forward this forum to him :burnout:
I saw some of that too (try "Aeron" for those that are looking for it but can't locate it :-) ).
I know I'm a Commodore man, but is that XR6 electric? you can hardly hear it :stick:
Whoops I spelt his name wrong, cheers Stav :)
His Ford is a Turbo i think and yeah it is a wee be quiet isnt it.
Troy :)
LOL not electric :D
That said, his is noisier than mine!
His only has the centre muffler replaced with straight pipe.. Goes well with 240rwkw too :)

I was on the skidpan having a play for the Supersprint presentation day while you guys were all going around (watching turn 9, sometimes it was around, around, around...:eyes: ). Seeing that Monaro was gut wrenching - very good argument for having a dedicated track car!!
