Yep, its getting a much needed resurfacing and I believe a few other small improvements.

I'm not sure when its slated for completion, however I've got a race meeting there on 27/1, so presume it will all be done before then. Looking forward to see if there is any more time in it post resurfacing! Not to mention getting rid of some terrible bumps!

Thats great. A new surface will make the track a heap better. On another good note, I won't be missing out on tracks days now. I will be home a few weeks after its finished.......Anyone for a late feb trak day..

Hopefully ... I think there is always a risk that the new surface has no grip ... but I could be wrong.

Late Feb track day sounds like a plan to me.

I think you are correct there Nick, new roads on the street are pretty slippery and tracks that are old have rubber embedded into them from millions of KM's or track use.

Feb is out for me as Ill be up North on course but im sure there will be more next year.

Depends on which HSV brakes. A couple of us run the 350mm/330mm 4-spot package with Ferodo DS2500 pads, and regularly bled fluid, with no problems whatsoever.

Even with stocker commodore brakes, you could use some good pads and fluid, should be fine for you first track day (assuming you have at least 50% meat on the pads though).

I'll second that. Never had fade; haven't cracked a rotor (touch wood) & nil rotor pulsing. The DS2500's are awesome. They've been good for ~5 track days, pushing quite hard, & daily driver duties also. Will probably change to a new set for next time out though. A very strong package that didn't cost the earth.

I vote for every month too, think about it its really only 12 days. I dont really want to wait till april, thats nearly 5 months away, should do 2 by then.

We should see if we can organize a regular track days for the year both circuit and drag. Half a dozen circuit days and 3 or more drag days, id be keen, or more days in total if people want.

Troy i absollutly loved the wakefeild day, what a blast. What made it great was spending the night befor and day with some great guys. You dont know how p*ssed i was to have to pull out of the drag day. Its not cheap doing these track days but it aint that dear either. id rather spend the money on these then waste it on other sh*t all the time.

Guys,
theres an autosports day at wakie on the 19th Jan, its a saturday. I'll be there for once - never done wakie before but I need practice as theres 2 rounds of the supersprints there in 2008!! :D

Any tips for me? (besides no drifting??!!)

BOMI
06-12-2007, 07:50 PM
Ahhhh the best PPL for Wakey tips will be Lautray and Dunc.

I have been there a few times and love it but woont give and tips as Id hate to accidently give you a bum steer.

Have fun mate.

ok here are my tips for Wakefield Circuit

Main stright, in 4th, as soon as you sight the kink ripple strip LOOK at it, AIM for it, skim past, grab 3rd and go real wide in preparation for turn one. Don't be tempted to grab 2nd. Then it's a dead set drag race up to turn 3. Drive right over the ripple strip at turn 3, trust me. It's a big marshmellow ripple strip, no ridges. Most are tempted to go real wide up the hill in preparation for turn 4. Dont bother! sneak along on the RIGHT SIDE making a shortcut for turn 4. You'll make up a bit of sneaky time here. Keep it in 3rd through turns 4 and 5 (my fav part of the track) you will be able to skate through there pretty quick. Avoid Bomi doing an exhibition drifting session through there.. Then go wide for turn 6 (not too wide that ripple strip is a bit UNFORGIVING) and keep it in 3rd. Again look att he ripple strip and kiss it on the way through. Plot a straight line from turn 6 to turn 8 (as much as possible) and go wide at turn 8, but aim to drive right over the damn ripple strip! Run right over the biatch! Turn 8 to turns 9 is a doozie.. off camber! Therefore avoid temptation to drop to 2nd at turn 8. A gearchange from 2nd to 3rd between turns 8 and 9 just unsettles the car, and you'll get wheelspin given the off camber attitude/balance anyway. You may need to modulate the throttle quite a bit here, especially if your power is north of 300rwkw. Still in 3rd, hug the left in preparaton for turn 9. Look straight at the apex and skim past the sucker. 50% throttle right through. On the back straight, avoid the ineviatable ricers tank slapping and overcorrecting all over the shop, then short shift into 4th for another mini-drag race to turn 10. Brake just short of the 100m board, and back into 3rd for the turn. 2nd if you must, depending on gears. In slow and out FAST, go wide and straighten up the tiller about 1 second before you think you should - whilst foot is through the firewall. And here you are, back on the main stright again...

If you want a plot of the track (with turn numbers) see here (http://wakefieldpark.com.au/images/stories/wfptrackmap.pdf)

A couple of other points

Do at least 1 warm up lap
Check to make sure you have enough brake pad
Check fluids after ever session (engine oil etc)
Check fluids after ever session (engine oil etc)
Did i mention to.. check fluids after ever session (engine oil etc)
Take some spare fluids (engine oil, brake, power steer)
After session, drive up the road and back to cool car down
After session, don't put handbrake on
Be nice to Debbie in the Cafe
Have fun!

Thats absollutly great Dunc. I knew some of those tips from my day there but actually trying to do them is bloody difficult. I know there are better lines to take than the ones i was but for some stupid reason i just kept going the wrong ones, thats why i spent my whole last session trying to go slow and follow the correct lines so hopefully next time out i can hit them.
Turns 5 and 6 are damn hard and fun while on boost:shock: . My favorite part of the track:yep: . Come to think of it that whole infield is bloody hard on boost.

Great run-down Dunc. I think I'll be taking some of these on board. Definitely be attacking the ripple strips more next time. Basically been avoiding them, especially the sawtooth ones. But I've been told to "use" them all.... should shave some more time off if done correctly.

Very true.
I had John Bozzman do a few session with me at OP one time, didnt relise how much I sucked until he got in the passenger seat!!

1 session he said dont be affraid to use the ripple strips on the off corner (e.g. when going around a left hand corner - all weight is on right, put left on ripple strip) so after a few sessions I started getting the hang of it, then next session he said "make the ripple strip in the middle of the car"
I was a bit "hesitant" however started doing it more again, and my lap times dropped!!

I am sizing up either Eastern Creek or Oran Park while Wakefield is unserviceable. Eastern Creek has a twilight session this Friday coming: $200 from 5-9pm; Oran Park apparently has a week of practice days very early January. Have sent them an email for more info regarding these practice days. I haven't been to OP before & if entering next years' supersprint championship, should be a good recon.

who are you doing the SS with? the CAMS series or the HSV/WRX?Alfa/SSCC?

Would like to do the whole NSW SuperSprint Championship next year. I think that one is the CAMS series. Going to twist Duncan's are also... shouldn't need much twisting I reckon. Something like a dozen events or so. Should be fun.

So those OP practice days in January are the L2S ones?

Ive been to a fair few of them this year and theres been a range of cars, one day there were 3 cars including me in the L2S group!!!

Great to see some of you guys getting into supersprints... awesome stuff!

I'll try to make it out to some events in 08... probably just to watch the ssprints but i'll be sure to say hi!

Oh... other thing to remember at Wakefield is on the last corner... WAIT... a long time before turning in. It is a VERY late apex, and most people turn in way too early.

I'm hoping to make the 18th Jan... at Eastern Creek - see calendar below.

EC Private Practice Calendar...

Friday 18th January Cars Only
Friday 28th March Cars / Bikes / L2S
Friday 2nd May Cars / Bikes / L2S
Friday 23rd May Cars Only
Friday 6th June Cars / Bikes / L2S
Friday 4th July Cars / Bikes / L2S
Saturday 9th August Cars / Bikes / L2S

I think the Jan 18 is for PC licence and up.

If it says L2S it will have a session for those with only a L2S CAMS licence. If it doesn't have this, then it will be PC, CC and NC + only.

lautray

Dave, what is PC?

$85 (+$25 for a garage) is pretty cheap compared to $240 for the twilight session last Friday  . Only 3 hrs total by the time they had their formalities i.e. 6-9pm :headbang: , but its advertised as racing 5-9pm.

Great find Chris. If the reality is as good as the story, perhaps we will skip 1:08's & go straight into the 1:07's? The race is on. Can't wait to get back there with the new 383 :D.

Probably done >1000 laps at Wakefield. So hopefully not everything accumulated has to be thrown out the window. Will be fun either way.
