First aid, "The initial care of the injured or ill"

Imagine youre confronted with your wife/husband or child laying unconscious on the ground. What do you do?

You can call triple zero then wait for the Ambulance to arrive, that could be up to 20 minutes, or you can call triple zero then begin save your loved ones life.

First aid is simple common sense protocols that allow you to treat a person so that they can make it to a hospital.

Ever wondered how to treat a snake bite, or what to do if your wife broke her arm? What if your mate got shot, what do you do?

Well a Senior first aid course is the way to go. I have a good mate Gavin who owns his own first aid company, 'Concise First Aid', and trains small groups in first aid.

Gavin is Ex Australian Army and has served overseas on operations and has used First aid to his advantage to help his mates get back home.

I don't have my senior first aid certificate and want to get it, Gavin has offered a special price for Trackchat members and our families.

The senior First Aid course that Gavin runs will give you national accreditation that you can use at your work and or home.

Usually this type of course cost's upwards of $170 from other organisations.

Gavin charges $120 and for TC members will charge only $90.

For the Defibrillator course add another $60, if you don't know what a Defibrillator is, its a device that shocks the heart when it out of rhythm (Not heart attack as I thought).

The Senior first aid course consists of the following;

Principles of First aid
CPR (Child and adult)
Haemorrhage control
Bullet and stab wounds
Fractures and crush injuries
Environmental injuries
Bites, stings and poisoning

There is more but I have to speak to Gav before I put it up here.

The way the course works is you get a work booklet to do at home before the course. It will take 6 hours in total. Once that is done you attend the practical part of the course and do your testing which only takes one day.

If you are keen then please put your name up here. This will be run in the new year in Sydney subject to numbers, limit of 40.

I would like to do it. I had done basic first aid as part of my rescue diving course but that was a few years ago so should do a refresher. No need for the Packer Whacker for me though.

So are yo u keen to do the course Bill? Remember its only one day and will most likely be on a weekend so people can attend.

Also you are saving upwards of $80 one St Johns and other organisations and its nationally accredited.

As an aside to this course, I saw on the new the other night that 11 drownings have happened in the last few months. Shocking  and sad :(

I wonder of the 11 drownings how many of the civilian rescuers were FA qualified?

Just a thought...

Oopsy, sorry I was probably a little misleading. The brigade puts us though advanced first aid. I think the idea to offer a first aid course at a reduced price to members here is tops. :bravo: This is a good price guys. If you can get the certificate recognised at your workplace you can claim the price back on your tax anyway (correct me if I'm wrong).
