Well Practice 1 is over.
Car is running well and the boys are generally happy with the setup.
Best so far was a 2:46.497 which is around 10-15 sec of the leaders at this time.
Unfortunately the session finished 5mins early due to a Commodore going off at the top of the Mountain

Well i have to say a HUGE Congratulations to Dad and the team over the weekend for producing pole position, the quickest car in the field by 1 sec :nos: , and a very respectable 5th outright for their first shot at it.
Aparantly the car was out of action for 20 minutes having the front brakes changed, which dropped them out of the lead pack in the last couple of hours. Having said that, i think should this not have happened it could have been a clean sweep for a group of guys who (apart from D.Wall) don't race very often. Pitty we didn't beat Morris:mgun:
Just goes to show how well prepared the car was, congrats to all who had a hand in it.
Im not sure what this whole exercise cost the old man (probably half his retirement funds?), but after this i think next year is more than likely!!:woohoo:
Looking forward to seeing some great pics by Kyle, in and around the pits etc.
And very interested to see how much air time the Trackchat sticker gets?
Well done to everyone involved, large or small.
Scotty
11-02-2008, 12:00 PM
Well... what a weekend.:burnout:
I think we definately caught the attention of a lot of people, as we had slipped under the radar until qualifying.:hide: :driving:
Except for some brake issues, the car was awesome and the quickest on the track.
There are always 'if onlys'... but I would have loved to have seen us battle for top placing.
We have come away with a whole lot of data and items to address and I am quite confident we will be back next year.
It is worth recognising the efforts of the whole team, as it was definately a team effort.
So Pole Position, 5th Outright and 3rd in Class isn't too bad for a brand new team and a brand new car.
We definately got some good TV coverage during the race, so it will be interesting which parts they show for the telecast on this weekend.
I will have some pics etc soon, as will Kyle.
Thanks & Congratulations again to Alan and all the Team

I don't want to take this thread off-track, but I have to say that whoever is responsible for publicity for the 12 hour needs to go back to "publicity school". I tried to find-out what was happening, had happened, what ensued, and what were final results, and found.....ZIP!
I watched the evening news on tv ....a bit of footage of the rolling Mazda 3 but I don't know what he was competing in because there was no supporting story or even a mention of the race and the results. So, I thought - at least Monday's Courier mail will have a write-up and some results....Nup - same rolling Mazda photos and nothing else....
Very poor show. How do the competitors or sponsors expect to get some value out of the event, and what chance of raising some sponsorship does it give those interested in next year's event....if it happens...
Yes - I know I could go to Natsoft for the actual results, but I thought at least there'd be some story or high-lights etc.
Westie
12-02-2008, 12:23 PM
Seldo,
I agree with you, it was difficult to understand what was going on unless you went to the Natsoft page. They did however have an hourly update of only the front runners on the news page (probably in the archive section now), which gave a jist of what happened.
There was no pictures bigger than a thumbnail uploaded, or even of the winners on the podium...very poor. Lets hope the C7 coverage on Saturday 2-5pm will be better.
I tried to give coverage as best I could from the media office, when I wasn't our in the field!!! :)
I throughly agree guys.. BAM media is respolsible for the promotion of the event, and they've done an average job unfortunately..
Which is odd considering they do events like indy etc... but I guess they're on a different budget for that...
NickS
12-02-2008, 04:14 PM
Yes - I know I could go to Natsoft for the actual results, but I thought at least there'd be some story or high-lights etc.
I spent a fair bit of time trying to find some info too mate ... Natsoft was all I could come up with, so it sat on the PC for the day and I just hit refresh when I wanted an update.
Scotty left a message on my phone on Saturday afternoon telling me they had poll, I was in QLD and didn't get home until almost 10pm. I opened up the BMF website to read about qualifying and there was nothing there !!!
Hopefully they lift their game or the race will disappear like the 24 hour did.
:(
seldo
12-02-2008, 04:45 PM
I thought at least the evening news would have some quick story about it. But after labouring through their reports of the Brewarinna under 9's girls' softball match, the Rottnest Residents' Tiddlywinks Championship, the Darwin Abstinence Society's Cross-stitch display, the Launceston Line-dancing Championships, and other less stimulating stories I found there was nothing....apart of course from the footage of the spectacular Mazda roll - but he may have even been at a private practise day for all the background info given...
Scotty
13-02-2008, 09:35 AM
I believe there is a definate need for some better advertising, promotion etc.
Too many people asked me what I was or did on the weekend, when I told them the common response was.. 'it was on this weekend?' and this is from people who would generally be interested.
I found some adds in Motorsport News and another magazine. There did not seem to be any radio advertising.
Even worse was when I went into town on Sat to by a TV and the guys at The Good Guys didn't even know something was on.
It will be interesting to see what the coverage is like this weekend on Channel 7. I believe it will also be run on Fox Sports at some time.
Can someone record to DVD the Channel 7 broadcast for me?
Scotty
13-02-2008, 12:31 PM
There is a write up in this months AutoAction
Scotty
18-02-2008, 10:18 AM
so did anyone watch the coverage? and did anyone record it?
Westie
18-02-2008, 11:50 AM
Yeah, watched the coverage. The team got a fair amount of air time, not much though in comparison to the top three (maybe half), but definately worth some sponsors to jump onboard next year!!
Those EVO's have awsome punch out of the corners, very impressive to see, and must be a thrill to drive around that circut.
No recording however Scott, im sure someone will have got it?
It was easy to see what logo's did and didn't make an impact on the car on TV...i need to do some work on my end to fix this. The yellow paintwork though was by far the best moving billboard, the car looked great.
NickS
18-02-2008, 12:59 PM
I watched it but didn't record it ... we can only record to IQ so there isn't much point recording for someone else.
I thought the team got some pretty good coverage, not as much as the top 3 finishers but certainly enough to get noticed. Hopefully this will lead to some more sponsors ... if that's the aim ?
Westie
