Hey Team,

Figured this would be the best forum to post on in light of recent events, Ive been tuning my Sisters VY SS A4 with just a cat back ( off the shelf ) for around 2 months with the help of Jezza, and Macca, and the car runs great no idle issues and feels a lot faster ( SOP dyno:o ) last night at the track things went a little pair shaped.
only got 3 runs in before the heavens opened up
14.3@100MPH
14.2@100MPH
14,1@101MPH

not really what i was hoping for, i was sure it has a high 13 in it.. and although weather was terrible i am sure its only some fine tuning holding me back even with shity weather.
But i am not going to let this deter me, Back onto the laptop first thing this morning reading my logs to see where i went wrong etc.. I shall keep ya Posted...

It seems it was running out of puff at the top end, my old vx calais managed a 13.96 at 99.6mph at calder a few years ago with just a cat back and no filter(very different climate there though and winter time).
Im no expert tuner but im getting there and if i can be of any assistance let me know. If your talking to macca and jezz a bit is it safe to assume you have efi live or do you have hptuners. Ive got hpt myself as do a few other members and im not real sure on the workings of efilive but one would have to think there not to different at the end.
If your afr's are all good id be looking at any torque reduction and auto settings that could be pulling up the fun. And timing can play a big part too obviously but the difference per vehicle can be quite big. My maloo didnt like a lot of timing at all but my calais with the exact same mods loved another 5 degree's over the ute.

yeah i have EFI LIVE, still very much on my L plates:o , The auto is really good, its a New 4L65E box with 1200k's on her, the shifts dont feel like they are losing any time at all, but the 60" were 2.3ish... and i must say it felt VERY Boggy off the line, I have made a few adjustments, but there is much to go.. I will get it on the dyno ASAP just to see what kind of power it is putting down.. ( i assume 195rwkw ish )

obviously launch technique isnt going to get you any real gain on the mph but it will certainly help the 60ft. My calais loved just being stabbed with out stalling it up.

Yeah, i tried to do both a little stall off idle was best, I dont think it was the driving to be honest, Ive done well over 80 passes ( in my car ) I have a lot of work to do to get to where i want the tune to be.. just a matter of trying things.. Jesus it would be easy if i had a dyno lol

from memory my white ss went bets with a slight stall (just off idle 1100rpm ish) when it was just tuned and a el cheapo exhaust. The weather last night wasnt the best, but atleast now u have a baseline in which to work off.

kepp us updated with how the project goes

I hear you about the dyno dave, i dont have any around here to use either. When i first got my software i approached a couple of young guys who took over a workshop here in town that had a dd dyno but they split not long after and the original owner collected the dyno for his own use(speedway), so i have no dyno to use.

Remember this mate, 1/4 action is not always about power, simple adjustments or additions to the cars set up will get you going that 1/10th faster sometimes.

EG I went 1/10th better with and OTR then again with PP standard TB and Power steering disconnected.

Also remember what your car runs today it might not tomorrow for a few reasons like the atmosphere and the track surface.

Have fun and keep us posted.

Troy, did you actually disconnect your p/s to see if it went faster ?

OLS108, keep at it mate, it will be pretty satisfying making changes and getting the car to go faster as you learn more :bravo: :)

went out again last night in pretty much the same weather, and had a big more sucsess after myself and Jezzab made a few tuning changes.

first run 14.01@101mph
car really bogged down

2nd run 13.86@102MPH
yay ran the 13 that i really wanted

3rd run 13.79@103MPH
car was getting off the line a little better with a 2.25 60ft and mph was getting there.

4th run 13.65@98MPH ( my sister jumped off the go pedal early )

Really happy with the way the car went, with nothing more then a Cheap cat back and a Mafless & OTR...
with some 3.9's and a quality exhaust and extractors i think we will run a low 13.

Aweseom progress Dave

From 14.30's to 13.60's, just with driving practice and tuning tweaks! This is when you'll get addicted, seeing massive jumps in progress from night to night. Exciting stuff, well done. What changes did you make to driving, and what changes did you make to the tune?

Awesome work Dave ... you're giving it a go and that's the main thing. No one can expect to master this stuff overnight, but the gains are clearly there ... so stick at it.

:bravo:

Thanks guys, yeah still very much on my L plates still, but i am taking this as a win. Jezzab has helped me out heaps even before i brought the software so i credit a lot this to him... maybe a set of TRI Y's and some diff gears a low 13 is possible.

Dave I reckon go the tri-ys + open the CATS and a low 13 sec pass is done and dusted.

Our very own resident firey Mr firebug achieved this not so long ago with a 13.1 and 3.07s.

As mentioned but the other lads ... good on ya for giving the tuning thing a go. :bravo: I sadly am missing the part of the brain that allows you to correctly understand tuning lingo ... so my admiration goes out to anyone (almost:D) who can get a grip on it.

Keep the progress updates coming.

Hopefully after my new year's diet, I'll see a high 12 in the old girl...
