View Full Version : Eastern Creek Karts 20 JAN 08 >>>POLL<<<

It's been a while and a few of us have a hankering for some karting at Eastern Creek.

I've booked a session of "Reduced Mini Grand Prix" which consists of a warm up session, heats 1 and 2, and final.

Where: Easter Creek Karts
When: Sunday January 20
Start: 10am (arrive say 9:30am)
Duration: 2 hours
Cost: $150

Cost for a half an our session last time (2 x 15mins) was $85, so i think the incremental cost for the Mini Grand Prix is relatively good value.

If you are keen, put you name down in this thread

Hope to see you there!

Thanks Mick, yeah it's pretty average mate... For the first few weeks i could hardly walk and couldn't sit down for more than 15 minutes without being in agony - it got to the stage where i had to stop 3 times each way going to work and back to get out and stretch or else when i got there i couldn't get out of the car...

Apparently if they go another couple of mm i'm going to have to go under the knife... :(

But yeah, have fun you lucky buggers !!

Cheers,
Paul...

This form of karting is pure pot-luck mate. Last time we where at Eastern Creek I was mid-pack in one race and fastest in the next race ( ... I even beat Erik :D)

:hmmm:

"Instantaneous Power" and 95km/h sounds a bit optimistic to me. Last time where there you could hold it flat for the entire track bar the 2 hairpins.

Lots of fun ... but I think they are talking them up a bit.

I spent a day in this kart, now it had instantaneous power ... :yep:

No worries John, cash on the day is fine.

We will get overall thingys to wear in the karts, so wear whatever you want as they will just go over the top. I always take my own helmet, much nicer than wearing a rental.

Hi Guys

Sydney people will know it has been pissing down all day. I called the track and these are the options:

1. If the weather is NOT extreme, we can still go out. They said they have wet weather tyres, but i cant see them swapping out 20 sets of tyres in reality. Last time i was there in the rain, we had slicks.

2. We can postpone the event to a latter date. There is a $200~$300 fee to do this though ($10 each)

3. We can cancel the event. We will forfeit the deposit though ($500) split amongst entrants it will about $25 each

I think we should wait until tomorrow morning before we make the call. It could fine up.

I've added a poll to this thread - please vote your preference

We will make a call tomorrow morning around 8am, posted on the forum. If you will not be near a computer then, give me a call on. thanks.

Well ... I was going great guns until I got black flagged for a bit of "rubbing" (it was so my corner ...)

After the little lecture I decided my chances had been stuffed so I spat my dummy and left (I was leaving at the end of that heat anyway). I finished 5th in the 1st heat and was running 3rd or 4th in the 2nd heat when they black flagged me ... I reckon I had pole stiched up.

:headbang:

I think the key to this format is starting mid-field in both races. If you are front or back it's too hard to pass everyone, but from mid-field you can get up the front in both heats.

I don't know who drove me off the track ... but you suck.

I think the key to this format is starting mid-field in both races. If you are front or back it's too hard to pass everyone, but from mid-field you can get up the front in both heats.

I don't know who drove me off the track ... but you suck.

:D

you had a spin in front of me Nick and I got showered in Mud!

It was a great day, thanks to Duncan for organizing it.

That wasn't a spin mate ... that was punted off the track.

That ticked me off as whoever it was looked straight at me and then moved right over, pushed me clean off the track. It's a piece of piss to take that corner from the inside of the track so there was no need for it.

Anyway ... I had fun racing with you, pretty sure we where nose to tail for pretty much everything leading up to that.

Thanks for organising Dunc, we gotta do that more often.

Thanks Duncan for organising the day:bravo::thumbs: I had a great day ,was good to catch up with old friends and meet some new guys . Duncan /Eric that pub you guys recommended for lunch/drinks was awsome . I owe you a beer Duncan . Then the idea to head back to the track for another session , next time remind me to say no , the arms felt like lumps of lead driving home , and i am completely knackered , but a great day was had by all ..

It was good to meet and catch up with you all.

Nick it's a shame you got black flagged.

There was a few discrepancies later on so after having lunch at the local pub half of us decided to go back for a few more rounds.

My upper body is so sore now.

It was very hard work trying to keep up with all of you.

But according to the last printout of the day,

i got the fastest lap in the last heat :hide:

Thanks for a great day guys.

I am looking forward to doing some track days in my car and chasing you big guns around .

cheers

Thanks to everyone for a top day out. Awesome that everyone turned up, and how lucky were we with the weather? Although it was stinking hot and i am now lobster red.. Special mention for Tim and Mark for putting the hard yards in with travelling all that way.

Well the Mini-grand prix was a fizzer for me too Nick, I got a dud kart and just about everyone behind passed with ease. Sorry if i was holding you up guys!! Nick, i was royally pissed too and almost parked it myself, knowing i wasnt in with a chance. Pretty sad given all the lead up they put us through. I reckon they should mix the karts up for that event.

Anyway after some lunch at the pub we decided to go back for another crack! This time 2 x 15 minute sessions - and i have to say much more enjoyable. I got some decent karts this time and managed much more respectable times. Next time i reckon we should just do two or three 15 minute sessions, so we can all get a crack at different karts.

Many thanks again guys.

What a great day. Can't believe everyone showed up :bravo: . Always great to catch up with old & new faces. Tim & Tom, sorry for stealing your lunches - honest mistake ;).

I actually enjoyed the after-lunch karts more than the mini grand prix also. A lot more even in kart performance (for most). Had a major incident... taking avoiding action for a slower car, locking up the rears & spinning, & then getting t-boned by Christian... got some wicked bruises & lumps. Got black-flagged twice for silly shit.

Hey Mick, who lapped quickest in the mini grand prix???... Christian :D. The only one to go sub 56s!
Hey Mick, who lapped quickest in the afternoon???... Me :D. 42.45! I believe Duncan has the proof. You've been de-throned buddy :stick: :whip: :waving: .

I think we'll start organising these days on a more regular basis, perhaps making it a cruise/kart day at different venues i.e. Butterfly Farm, Picton, Kembla, Eastern Creek etc.

I agree mate ... being stuck with the same kart for the whole thing would suck if you got a dud. Perhaps we need to get our own karts ... :up2sum:

Don't be too hard on Mick ... the sudden ego deflation has left him a little unbalanced, he just needs a few weeks to get used to the new, significantly smaller, ego and he will be right.

Funky if you are a definite 100% walk up racer for Sunday, i might be able to fit you in. Let us know.

Hey mate. Just saw this post now. :headbang:

Didnt get a chance to log in on Friday and I never log on to the net on weekend. Looks like go karting was just not meant to be for me. :(

Thanks for the invite all the same though. Much appreciated.

Good to see the weather cleared up and you guys had a ball. Lucky for Mick I wasnt there, otherwise he wouldnt have that avatar. :p

To echo what everyone else has said, that was a great day and a big thank you to Duncan for organising it :bravo: It was great meeting you all and putting faces to names i've seen here and at "the daycare centre"(LS1.com)

During work today, my back and shoulders were regretting going back for round two, but it was well worth it :yep: . Probably better than the corporate event.

I'm already looking forward to the next one. I'll probably see you all again at the upcomming drag day :waving: I'll be the guy staring at my car, scratching my head wondering why I can't do better than a 15 sec ET

Cheers,
Tom
