I notice these seem to be in vogue again, most people seemed to think these were good for cars with cam and FI but a waste on a bolt on car. However I have seen a few posts stating that these are now a good bolt on mod. What are the thoughts of people on this board? Any results that people want to post up? Are they decent BFYB on a bolt on car?
Hey mate, I have heard the same things of late.
Personaly I have a standrad throttle body that has been ported and polished and I noticed a slightly better throttle response.
I have not had it on the dyno since but at WSID I ran my PB.
Now I had two different bits of kit on that night that I had not used before.
1. Front runners
2. PP Throttle body
My time improved by .050 or there abouts, I cant say that it was the PPTB or the FR but either way it was a PB. 12.203 @ 114.5 MPH 60' 1.88 Std Stall

I fitted a TBA t/b to my car recently and I was surprised at the noticeable difference. Haven't had it back on the rollers to quantify yet. Nice bit of billet candy too

THe Castle Hill Exhaust Centre guys ran a series of tests on different throttle bodies (all on cam cars though).
I'll get Dale to put up some results. The TBA one impressed him enough to fit one to his own car.
Daniel,
what about a 90mm LS2 Manifold! ($550) matched to a 90mm TB?
of course, that would match a new head and cam!
(and why not get the LS2 manifold ported while you are at it)
Just some ideas!

here is the test from my car,
http://www.castlehillexhaust.com.au/image-gallery/1935.jpg
we did put it on a stock car and there way about 5hp difference in the top end, but the throttle response was killer!
Thats an awesome graphic on the difference a TB can make.
Thanks for the info Dale, Ive been itching to do or see a comparison like this for ages.
I wanna do one with Spark plugs, just to put all the rumours to rest :whip:

There is some really good info in this thread, thanks guys. It seems that with a cam that throttle body is a must have.
Going on Dales results they are a good addition on a bolt on car but, I think they are around $750 so not the same BFYB as say a tune but probably still worth it.
I may still go one of these as a bolt on as i do intend on doing a cam at some stage.
Cheers

You are a very bad influence Duncan :up2sum:
If I did have the money that intake setup with heads and cam would be on my car right now! :driving:

Damn you Dale !!!! :)
Just as I think the list of "to do's" is getting shorter you go and post something like that ! :headbang:
Good information indeed though, thanks for posting it.
* grabs pen and paper and scribbles "add TBA throttle body". That just leaves......di-fillipo 4-1's & CATBACK, heads, 36fb injectors, circuit tyres, TBA-TB, ......., ........., ........, ......... :headbang: *

i have always run a bigger tb on my car, it was a ss ind one to start with and managed a 12.2 on 18" street tyres,
they do make a difference espically to throttle response,
tiger,
ill be selling my DF headers and 3in stainless cats in a few weeks time (when the turbo setup goes on), $1800 worth of gear want $1000 for the lot
