Hi guys,

I'll write up a complete report in the next day or two (it's 12:30am, I just got back to the hotel, I'm buggered!), but this is just a quick note to say I made it back from the Nürburgring in one piece, and so did the rental. Oh, and it was the most amazing track experience ever. :)

Unfortunately (and fortunately) the weather was crap all weekend - drizzling, pouring, drizzling, pouring etc... The unfortunate part of course, is that the track was wet (and slippery!) on both days I was there. The fortunate part? The place was practically deserted. For 4 of my 6 laps, I didn't pass, or be passed by anyone at all! (Yes, having the entire Nürburgring Nordschleife to yourself really is as good as it sounds! :D)

As I said - a full writeup (with photos) will be up soon...but here's a couple of pics I took. One is of the view from my hotel room (that's the 'ring to the right), and one photo I took of the speedo, while driving. When BMW said the 320d Auto maxes out at 220km/h, they lied... ;)

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: Timing is strictly forbidden at the 'ring...but a little birdy (the iDrive stopwatch :D) tells me my first lap was a 14:30, followed by a 13:32. Not bad for my first two laps, on a wet track, in the rain, in a 2.0 diesel, I thought. :)

Sounds cool Febs, I am jealous.

Isnt it odd how so many race tracks take money so you can "drive" on them; but you can't time a lap! I find it quite bizarre. I guess its an insurance thing; but ffs, it's not like we're covered anyway..

It's like taking all your clothes off, jumping into bed with a gorgeous woman, but you're not allowed to touch each other (or something like that!) . I guess they know everyone times it anyway.. (the racetrack thing that is)

:lmao:

It's like going to a brothel and asking for a hug :stick:

Search "Nurburgring" on youtube Troy ... there are some pretty awesome vids on there.

True. I guess it'd be difficult to have proper timing gear anyway - you never do a "complete" lap, because the exit/entry gates are about 800m apart. Everyone I spoke to times themselves anyway. I guess it's not something they can really enforce.

Still it could be worse - it could have a 60km/h speed limit like Bathurst. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.
