I am soon to be in the market for some new pads and disks, harrop, ap are out of the equation .. I have been looking at some US sites and am wondering . Will the pad and rotors from a 2004 GTO are the same as a VT ..
Are EBC part no's dp31721 for ebc reds able to be used & EBC disk no GD7298 from http://www.buybrakes.com
The prices are so much better than buying in australia , especially with the way the dollar is lately..

I have do some more investigating into this and it seems that the disks from a 2004 GTO are the same as standard VT , the 2005 GTO has larger front disks and ventalated rear disks.. I am going to order some replacement disks made by EBC these are slotted and dimpledhttp://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-GD7298 http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-GD7300and some yellowstuff padshttp://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-DP41721R http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-DP41711R. Luckly i can have them shipped to my mothers place for free and then she can forward them on . Price delivered to her place will be $590au . They also have a Brembo replacement disk available but they seem to be plain disks http://www.buybrakes.com/store/BR27335

Mark,

might be worth finding out weight and getting a costing for freight from your Mum's. I've bought a few things from the USA and saved heaps on local cost, however they've all been (relatively) light weight/high value.

I also bring in brake pads from the US, Pagids for my track car, but unless you can find some room in someone's container for nicks, I would seriously consider why you want to ship rotors internationally.

DBA 4000 or 5000 series rotors are every bit as good as foreign ones and you will save a shipload on the freight.

It's funny you say that... Not a huge fan of 4000's. Cracked 2 rears, & had issues with my fronts when I had old PK1 kit. But since going up to HSV/AP kit with genuine AP 350/330mm rotors, nil issues :). They've copped an absolute hiding with many track days & comp. All I've had to do so far is flush/bleed & change pads (DS2500 are excellent) :yahoo: .

My experience :).

Yeah for track use I guess the 4000 series may struggle a bit at times with our heavy vehicles, but I have bought rotors from the US for my Camaro and truth be told, they were Brembos, I have found the DBA ones to be just as good and last longer.

(Camaro and Corvette share rotor and caliper fitments)

I wasn't sure whether the original poster was after road and/or track pads, so maybe I was a bit casual with the 4000 series being OK, probably not for track work. But as he was looking for stock sized rotors, I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that it was for road use.

I am using DBA5000 series front rotors on my ute, with Pagid pads, and have found them to be pretty good for the sprint type days I do. They are Harrop calipers by the way. Harrop rotors are in the rear. I just could not come at wearing out $700 odd Harrop rotors, so put them aside.

On pads, I have tried DS2500s, DS3000+, Bendix Ultimate, Bendix CT, Pagid 4-2, Pagid 4-2-1 so far. The DS2500s are nice, but squeal a bit, 3000+ are awesome but again squeal a lot, Ultimates, squeal and are not bad for daily driving, CT, quiet and OK for daily driving, Pagids, prefer the feel of these, happy with the wear rate and cost US$175 a set and my freight is free. Use Pagid 4-2-1 as my street pads now. Very easy on rotors, awful for dust, but that is the price you pay.

Eric i remember the problems you had with the dba4000s . The disks and pads will be used mainly for street but i am looking at doing some trackdays in the near future . The reason for stock sized are at then moment upgrading to AP/Harrop etc is plain and simply out of my price range . Thus looking for a reasonably priced subsitute. I will look into the moly----- disks that a few guys have ran . Definately getting the pads though .. Garry thanx for your input on the subject , any and all input is welcome .

Good info Garry :). The 2500's we got with our kits came with the anti-squeal shims. They work a treat.... quiet as :D. I'd love to give something more aggressive a go, like DS3000, but the replacement cost of the AP rotors is not cheap... apparently ~$400ea , so 2500's it is, for rotor longevity if nothing else. Only suffering some heat crazing on the front rotors. Really try & cool them off properly, but with supersprints one cool down lap is all you get. One lap may be enough to cool off engine, but not long enough for brakes imo.

Mark, I think the ebc yellows may be too harsh for street? May not like cold temps & then when they do get some temp may work too well? Are they above the reds? I'd try get a compromise street/track pad like DS2500 or the ebc reds (I think reds are equivalent to 2500). Duncan used stock size 4000 rotors without too much grief, in combo with ebc greens. He also used stock size RDA's, but changed these after every track day. They are cheap enough to be able to do that. Those molycarbide ones may be worth investigating into some more.

Hope this helps (a little) :).

Cheers, Erik

Eric the yellows are above the reds from from reading the following http://www.buybrakes.com/ebc/
they seem to work from cold also , just been looking at molycarbide disks on ebay and can get front and rear for 269.99 per set .
The price difference between reds 83.30front & 64.58rear yellows 92.66front 73.94rear is not that much so i may give the yellows a go ..

Yes heat soak in the fronts is a problem for me too at the sprints. At QR we have an exit off the pit road to the carpark/transporter parking area which we are allocated as a cool down area. I nearly always take that if I have had a hard run.

My idea with the 5000s was to keep the costs down I could replace just the brake disk keeping the hat, which should see the cost around $350 a pair in the 343mm size I use. I also have a set of the AP/HSV brakes here but haven't tried them because I have been happy with the Harrops and pads are cheap/ish for me. They will probably go on the ute when it returns to being a road car only.

Mark, as a comment, I have not known anyone who has tried EBC pads to either like or keep them as a road pad. They tend to squeal, and are horrendous on dust, like Ultimates etc. If you drive conservatively on the road, or have traffic to contend with you may have these problems. But, as you say, it is cheap to try them. I have been through plenty of pads I didn't like and take the same attitude. Don't know until you try.

Not sure whether you had thought of this or not, but the 320mm brakes from the VZ SS/Monaro are a very good upgrade from the stock 298 mm, are relatively cheap, and with something like Ultimates are a good compromise for those with more modest budgets. The ones from my ute have gone onto my VX daily and are fantastic.

Cheers,

Garry

ps Just put new Pagids into the ute as we have the first private track day at the re-opening Lakeside raceway on Saturday. Yeehah Some bedding and out-gassing to be done, love it.
