I've been wanting to post about this since I got it done last week; but it'd be shoved down the memory hole on that other forum ;).
When I bought my GTO, I had a SureFlo dual 3" exhaust put on within the first few months of taking delivery. Initially I was happy with it; heck anything that made some noise compared to the quiet stock exhaust was good.
As time went on though I became increasingly disappointed with the total lack of a defined V8 note. The sound below 4,500RPM was mostly a monotonic wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and above that the sound was very very harsh. Nothing fitting of a GTO :(
So, after a long time knowing it was something I really ought to do I took the car into Marrano's for a DiFilippo headers, cats and dual 3" exhaust.
What a difference!!!!
The sound of those exhaust is something to behold. I am extremely happy with it, and the car picked up a few rwkw and the engine's response is much better right through the rev range.
If you're thinking of a chance in exhausts..... please, don't buy one just on fanboi reputation like I did first time round. Get out there and listen to other cars with a comparable setup to what you're aiming for.

I also changed from pacemaker tri-y and sureflow twin 2 1/2 custom system to di fillipo system. I Got 4-1 headers hpc coated, cat pipes and cats, ss dual 2 1/2 zorst.
After having it fitted the car sounded a heap better and it picked up good torque gains across the board.
One thing to consider though. What sounds great to you may sound like shite to someone else. Exhausts are a personal taste. I am sure there are many that have there system and r happy with it.

If i'm reading this correctly James you got a 3" catback 'only' from Sureflo and then got a 'complete' system from Sonny? As you stated mate you have to get out there and listen to other cars and make an educated decision......saves lots of $$$$ not to mention the comparable results between the two setups would be huge.
That's why i got my exhaust system from Sureflo in Dec 05 i went the whole hog as i thought that just a catback only would leave me wanting....so to speak. Now with high flow cats and cam installed it sounds even better imho ;)
As cosmo said it's a personal thing but i'm glad your happy mate....enjoy :)

I too just upgraded the exhaust on the GTS. Had an ancient redback system on it that the first owner had installed from Chullora Suttons. It was a dual 2.5" which mated into a single 3" after the diff (weird!) Anyway i wanted more of a toned note, and when i was in at Sonny's a couple of months back got a DF cat back (kept the Paccie try-y's) and it was a tonne better, meatier sound, more responsive just AWESOME. Now that i have an OTR its even better!
DF systems are well worth the extra coin!

I see what Wombie is saying there jwilson, if indeed you did go from cat-back only to full system. Extractors and good cats make a huge difference to both power and sound.
I recently went from D/F twin st/st 2.5" to D/F twin st/st 3" and the sound is similar between the two, with the twin 3" being a little deeper, but not too much louder, which suits me to a tee. It also released more ponies.
Cheers,
Macca

No sir.. this was going from a SureFlo extractors/headers, cats and full exhaust to a DiFilippo headers, cats and dual 3" exhaust. Like-for-like comparison, not cat-back to full-system comparison. :)

I also have twin 3inch difilipo's, have their extractors as well and am very happy with the result. With the tune at the same time by Phonsy I got some nice power increase and a lovely sound. Yeh the price is on the high side but not that much more than the competition on the market.
