guess I should add some detail....
My gearbox has finally said enough is enough! It coped with 500 rwHp for 16,000 km, started going a bit sloppy on the changes about then, and now at 18,000 km it' gone to mush in first & second.
To get it off the line now, I accelerate gently, revs quickly rise to about 4000 rpm while the car is crawling away from a halt, once she has a few km/hr on board she quickly mushes through 2nd into 3rd where I have to back off to stop it trying to change back to 2nd, then I'm (gently) away!!! (with said Toyota no longer disapearing away from me!!!). She's gone from a 11.1 sec car to a 21.1 sec car in a matter of two weeks.
I knew it was only a matter of time before the A4 threw in the towel, it's lasted longer than I expected. Oh well, just a few more $$$'s!

shiiiitt ... thats no good.
I guess i'll respond to your LS1 PM here instead, as it may help others out.
Built auto's eh?
So what has my box had done to it ?
I don't know. :eyes:
I bought it from Pemier on the LS1 Classifieds
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=36757
and then
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=41681
As you can see from the second link, there was a scan of the receipt of works done ... which listed everything done, and what part used to great detail ... only the link doesnt work, and I didnt take a copy.
So unfortunately Al, I cant tell you what was done :(
I do know it had the 1-2 and 3-4 strengthened ... but I dont know what exactly was done.
The other thing I know is that when I took it to Craigs to put in, he remarked that it had a cork gasket between the box and the fluid/oil(?) pan ... I asked if that was a bad thing, and he just replied that he doesnt use cork, he uses rubber. (I tell you what .... I reckon Craig would be a good poker player).
The last thing I know is that its solid. Really solid.
Hopefully I'll take a video tonight to show you what I mean.
Good luck!
Seedy

Thanks mate, I've PM'd Pemier, see what he can find for me.
I'm leaning toward a built trans from Belmore Automatics (same as Nirvana has done). I'd like a box built by RVO, trouble is they're in Melbourne and if I have a prob, they're just too far away.
Haven't spoken to Craig's yet, though will do. Anyone any other bright ideas? It's simple really, build an A4 to stand up to a measly 650 fwHp and provide a (min) 12 month warranty.... shouldn't be that hard... should it?

Sorry to hear that Al maybe try a real gearbox.... A T56? :eyes:

Craig gave up on Steve's 4L60 / 4L65 after busting 3 or 4.
He ended up fitting a 4L80 (out of a Chev Suburban or Hummer), and it cost about 15 grand!!!
Some of the Vic guys recon RVO can build 4L60's that can handle 1000 hp.

It's one of the options I've been considering. The only reason I originally bought an auto is Denise can't drive a manual. She rarely drives my car, and loves her AH Astra, so converting it to manual's not out of the question.
