All,

thought I would share my recent experience in case others come across the same thing, or hopefully before.

Early last week, I was asked by my better half to book the Avalanche in for a service as it is now due, and was then advised that the car had been making some funny noises...
 Alas I forgot to book a service and didn't really question the alleged noises.

On saturday as I was driving the car around the alleged noises were real and coming from the power steering and constantly. Obviously a fluid issue.
I was unable to get to it till sunday, so I booked my handy super mechanic Nick;) in for the afternoon, and headed off to Autopro (I think) to get some potential bits (hose and clamps).
I was advised by the senior rep.. that if it was leaking it would only come form the high pressure end of the system and they didn't stock those bits. Silly me, though doubting the info, didnt get the bits I wanted.

I headed over to Nick's workshop, we jacked her up, and after removing the undertray and front bar and cleaning the leak, we were able to confirm it was just seaping out of a metal to rubber connection point. sighs of relief all round.

So we set to tightening things up, only to realise that the hose clamp could no longer keep the firm pressure required. thankfully nick had one we could pilfer (coupe4s supposedly dont need them). Nick then checked the other connectors to find them all pretty loose and not located propery. After finding another dodgey clamp we had things sorted.

Filled her up and bobs your uncle it was fixed. Not sure how long the pump will work after the strain of no fluid for a couple of days???:hmmm:

The moral to this story is... Check your hoses and clamps, especially if you are heading to the track when you will put additional load on the Power Steering system.

Thanks Nick for the assist:cheers:  . He is one of the best dressed mechanics around.

i actually do have a leak out of the high preesure side of the pump:waving: . Its funny as i had never noticed it befor i put my turbo kit in and since then its had me thinking it was an oil issue due to me having the sump off and also fitting up the oil lines to the turbo and because the undertray was allways so dirty from the amount of travewlling i allways do i couldnt tell the colour. One of my mates is a holden mechanic and when he swapped my x to a z grip he had a look over everything for me and noticed the leak and whats good he's going to fix it for me for the price of the seal kit and thats it, gotta love mates.
cheers tim

Good to see the WPHSS in full swing.

:bravo:

Did the mechanic wear his patented steel capped safety feet Scotty?

:hat:
