I cant believe how cheap laptops are getting

I paid $1500 about a year ago for this same model

http://www.officeworks.com.au/

(see laptop on front page)

NOW IT IS $768 (after cash back) and it is an awesome 14" widescreen; DVD burner; integreated 6-in-1 memory card reader, etc etc etc - the only weakness with this laptop is the battery; doesnt last much more than an hour with wireless. But perfect for just browsing the net, or low processing requirements (great for PCM tuning!). I might get a couple for the kids. Surely they can't get much cheaper?

$768 for a laptop  doesn't seem that long ago that we were paying $5000 a pop for computers.

So cheap ... that's a great option for the kids.

Thats a great price...

I was going to buy a second hand laptop to dedicate to data logging .... this might do it... though I was hoping to spend less...

I was then going to buy a copy of one of the scan only tools... no tuning for me...

Not only are the less powerful models getting extremely cheap. But the higher end models are getting very powerful.

I've just picked up a Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz based notebook, with 100GB HDD and 2GB RAM, DVD Burner, Bluetooth, Wireless Lan.

That's desktop power in a laptop that weighs 1.98kg's.

I use mine with a standard mouse, keyboard and 21" TFT Monitor so all the usual laptop issues (keyboard, screen size, touchpad) aren't an issue for me.

The major pay off for me is when I travel..... I simply un-plug it, and I've got my workspace under my arm.

I would never go back to a desktop based system.....

If you go to the computer markets at North Rocks on Sundays, you can get ex-lease 12 to 18 month old for less than $500 with windows XP, add a DVD burner for an extra $50.:)

The company I work for replaces laptops and PCs every three years, I think this when its written off? Any way the cost of equipment has become so cheap charities will knock back donations if its not up to spec..

I know one or two things about computers, some of the boys can vouch for that with the set up I've got here.:werd:
The markets are good for some things (just watch out for all of the nerds:yike: ) and there's a couple of shops around Sydney that just can't be beat for pricing on hardware.:woot:

Perfect for a CarPC setup too (and a Home Theatre PC setup for that matter).
