A mate of mine got it all through Heasman steering and suspension. They did all of the re-valving and stuff.

Another wow here. Great suspension and nice general set up. Is that roll cage a kit or did it get made up for you. Looking at getting one sooner rather than later now. Also the cages are they designed with a interior in mind like door trims.
Great effort

Hey mate just wondering if you were going to ditch the ABS? I saw on Gunna you were looking at rally rego. Any reason for this over normal road rego?

The cage was made by Bond Roll Bars. Dad and I installed it at home. I had to cut part of the door trim out to fit the cage. I had already removed a lot of other trim so im not sure how easy it would be to fit with everything in there.

I may ditch the ABS. All I have to do is remove the fuse and it turns off.
With the rego, I couldn't get normal road rego with the full roll cage in because I can't get it engineered. You can get a half cage engineered but not a full cage, so I was told by a few engineers. Something about how the RTA changed the laws recently or something. Apparently the RTA are trying to outlaw roll cages all together.
So yeh, I guess Rally Rego is the way to go now. I only want rego so I can do the Dutton Rally. :)

Any lap times yet ? How much front camber etc, have you done the crossmember yet ? Can ask more questions in one line ? :D

1). The only lap times I have are pre-mods, pre-lap timer, with useless tyres that turn to mush after 2 laps.
2). Im not sure how much camber I have. Its as much as I can get away with without the tyre touching the front strut. :)
3). No, I haven't done the crossmember (Is there a x-member mod?? and where do I get one?)
4). I think thats about as many questions as you can fit on one line  :nutbag:

I rang up bond and the cages ae not a bad price either. Just on 800 basic 6 point and 1200 with side intrustion and harness attachments.
When I called the rego plate in up here half is fine but the backs section has to be removed for road use. They said the reason was it had to be kept as a 5 seater. If I wanted to run a full cage I would have to rego it as a 2 seater. But that is the NT.

I think thats like in NSW. A half cage (the back half) is ok if you rego it as a 2 seater. Its the front half that the RTA dont like. :(
Also, I got a great deal with my roll cage. Bond had a VX roll cage already made, when I went to get a price, that a customer didn't want. So they gave me a good price just to get rid of it. :woohoo:
WOW looks awesome man :yep:
Well done, should be a blast!

Here are a few pics of the "V8Supercar" bar I picked up yesterday. Im still working on it. It had never been on a car so there are a few bits that need a bit of work. It was only $96 on ebay, so meh
After I fit it i'll get it painted. I still have to bugger around with brake ducting etc...

Well, the car has been booked in (I take it next Friday) for a Mafless tune with OTR intake. Also it'll get a Taxtralia Z-Grip clutch with lightened flywheel and braded clutch line. Also the diff ratio will be changed to 3.91:1 with a Detroit TrueTrac LSD centre. :D

With the clutch I have been told that the twin plate is a better suited model for circuit racing. With teh twin plate arrangement and greater surface area it can handle the compression braking better than the single. That is what PlanB mentioned to me when I was on the hunt. Long story why i have the single and dont have the twin.
But in reality I have never heard of anyone having issues with the single and circuit racing (including me). Others may mention it but if is common for the older cars to need a new MS not long after putting in a new clutch. Might be a idea if you can to put in a new one while you are at it. Mine did and a several others I know have needed it too.
Enjoy the diff too. Seems to be a good bit of gear from my testing so far. So good i am now considering doing drifting. I have a motorkhana on the 26 oct so it will be a good test for low speed stuff.
Either way your car is awesome and I get some great ideas from looking at this machine. No offense but you need to get out on the circuit very very soon and put this thing to the test.

Do it properly and get a triple plate Listy.
Seriously though if you installing a clutch because it is better for compression braking your going to get plenty of chances to inpect it - like every time you need to pull your engine out !!!
Brakes are for braking.

Yeh, I have to take it off to get it onto the trailer. Even to back it out of the garage. I probably couldn’t get out of my street with it on, if it had rego. :)
As for valve springs, well it will happen. Just not yet. This car is on a very very thin budget. That’s why it’s taken so long to save and get it all together. There is a looooong list of things to do but if I wait and do them all before I take it to the track, I’ll be too old to drive a car.

The cars a credit to you mate, it looks fantastic, whats the ride height of the front splitter ? it looks very low and vulnerable , if a off track excursion happens it may be toast. Also with hard cornering it may scrape depending on spring rates and roll bars size
I have 110mm clearance with my splitter and Ive gone through 1 this year and the brother has gone through 2, might pay to get a fibreglass guy to make a mould for you. I did this with mine and its worked out quite handy.

Im doing a track day at Eastern Creek on Nov 21 (a few days after the TC Wakefield Day) as a bit of a test day for the car. I need to see if I've sorted the brake problems (brake shudder) so I don’t want to cart the car down to Wakefield just to do a handful of laps and be disappointed if its not fixed. So im doing the EC track day, for $85, and its just down the road from home so if I do have problems I haven’t wasted a day.

You still have the stock radius rod bushes in there from the looks. They are the fist thing i change on a stocker let alone a track car. Simple job and not expensive but makes a HUGE difference to the front end feel. Nolathane PN# 48166 or superpro ones are good. Stops the struts moving under brakes, improves brake feel and turnin too.

I get the shudder every now and then. Best fix I found is go to about 70 or 80 and drive around with your foot lightly and a tad heavier every now and then. Do this for 3 to 5 minutes. It works well getting rid of the bad pad residue build up. Both the GTS and the avalanche it works

Aeron, the ones you replaced i take were the frontest of all front ones (caster ones), the nolathane blokes at summernats told me they were filled with a waterbased lube so when they crack and leak no one notices because rain/water usually cleans it all off and no one notices their actually buggered, also did you need to fit any washers/shims to set them up to your specs?? uf s how many, cheers.

Ben
Yeh mate, thats the ones. I could wipe the lube off with my finger. :horse:

Long story short...
:breakdance:
:hmmm: Sooooo........ that would mean your free to come down and take photos of us all having fun then? :stick:

I got the car back this morning from Castle Hill Exhausts.
The clutch, diff, OTR and tune are all done.
It made 235rwKw, which isn't too bad. Better than the 200 it had before.
Thanks to the boys at CHE for their hard work!!! :D :D

there is more power in it but i have a nice safety margin built in just incase you get a bad batch of fuel and then take it to the track :)

Congrats Aeron ... good gains.
Did you realise the coolant overflow tank is NOT secured with the rubber grommets?
Looking at your P/S reservior I'd suggest you've got a leak at one of the hoses ... might be worth a look before heading to EC.
Good luck mate ... you'll have a ball. :helmet:

Dale PM'ed me about the tank before. Thanks dudes!
Next weekend im going to go over the car (P/S included) to make sure everything is ok. That'll give me a few weeks to fix anything. :D

Well, today dad and I took the VX out to Eastern Creek for its first run with the suspension, tyres, tune, diff (just about everything) today. The car was great. I only did 2 sessions so that dad could have a bit more time in the car because he lacks a bit of confidence and he hadn't driven at Eastern Creek before.
After my first run of the day the bloody batteries in the lap timer died so I only have my first 8 lap times from the morning. My best recored time was a 1:56.170 on only my 6th lap of the day.
My 2nd session was heaps better, I had a lot more confidence and passed more cars, so it was good. I really enjoyed it! :D
I'll post a few pics later on :D

The PS tank and Overflow tank are around $40 from Holden and will make the engine bay like new again. Cheaper and easier than trying to clean them plus they go brittle with age/heat and can snap the fittings off.
Also ive found the radiator cover helps a lot in ensuring airflow through the radiator rather than over the top. Its worth cutting it to go around the OTR and putting it back on.

:yep: It is only about $32 from Holden from memory, I purchased a spare after I cut the original...

That awesome Aeron, great stuff!!
Your car is looking great man :yep:
If you put the radiator guard/shroud back on dont put the front part that gets in the way of the OTR on as it will restrict your AF every so slightly, every bit counts.

Good thinking 99. I'll chop up the old one today, minus the bit infront of the OTR. :)

Well, we got the car back a few weeks ago.
I managed to stuff the following on the front left:
Wheel hub
Wheel knuckle
Steering arm
Lower control arm
Castor Rod
I even bent the K-mac strut top!!
2 wheels
All up it was about $3000
So, last week dad took the car to Oran Park. After about 40laps there was a big clunk in the rear and it was game over. I haven't had a look yet but sounds like diff or drive shafts. Ahhh it never ends! :nutbag:
I'll have to pull it apart tomorrow.

A few updated photos from Wakefield Park on the weekend. This was the first time in 8 months that I've driven the car, since doing quite a bit of damage at Eastern Creek back in April.

Maybe it's just me but i reckon it looks really tidy with the standard front bar and the graphics removed ? The silver with black rims is a great look ! :yep:
Aeron - Two questions. I take it she's still unregistered - if so, how do you get it to the track ? Ie, what tow car ? Thinking of getting a VX myself and doing something similar but thought keeping rego on it would be a good idea just for ease of getting to the track...
And the second question - what lap times so far ? :)
Cheers,
Paul...

I agree Paul, it looks nice and tidy now. Much better :)
You're right, the car is unregistered and we just tow it to the track. We use my dads 2.0Litre VW Transporter T5 as a tow car......... the slowest tow car ever, lol.
If you do buy a VX and do something similar you could quite easily keep it with rego. Im just not sure how you'd go with the roll cage and Cops. We also like to tow it just in case I break it, which I seem to do from time to time (driver error).
But I love driving it! It moves around on the track and makes a great noise and I just love it! :bravo:
Lap times so far:
Eastern Creek 1:51.140
Wakefield Park 1:10.1??
I was a few secs off the pace at Wakefield Park on the weekend, doing a best of 1:12.080 but my confidence is down since spinning and damaging the car at Eastern Creek last year (pictured). Also the rear tyres are 3 years old and stuffed, but I still enjoy driving it :)
Pic from Eastern Creek last year. Doesn't look like much but it did a heap of damage

Considering your mods aren't too "over the top" they are some pretty good times mate, well done !
Sucks about the damage at EC but hey, it's a learning curve - could've been much worse. Just ask our ugly mate Choppo !
I need to get rid of my VZ first. If it was manual i'd probably just keep it and start setting it up as a track day / weekender. Problem is i'm not confident enough to do it myself and it'd cost too much to pay someone to do it... :)
If you decide to head out to EC again anytime soon let me know, would love to come out for a look !
Cheers,
