Has anyone tried 265 RE55's on a VT~VZ Commodore or Monaro?

This chart (http://www.bridgestone.com.au/lib/images/tyres_misc/re55_rrp1.jpg) says they are 275mm wide, so too wide? I am thinking just for the rear tyres, and 245's for the front.

It says you need a 9.5" rim which i dont have, but thought i would ask if anyone has done it to see if they fit.

I know some of the guys at the hsvoc in vic run 265 RE55's on simmons rims on the rear.

I will be in the next month or two. They are the next tyres I will be ordering all round. I tried the 265 dunlops I got second hand on a 8 inch rim and the car was all over the place, I mean outright dangerous all over the place. Rears only but the tail was moving around all the time and constant corrections were required. I took them straight back and put the 235 back on. No way would I even bother trying to use 265 on a 8 inch rim on the circuit.

When I get the RE55 I will be using them on a 9 inch rim. The 265 dunlops I use now fit perfectly on the 9 inch rim. I have heard the RE55 are a tad wider too. Regarding the width I found some broken Monkey warehouse rear flairs in the trading post so I will use these until I get time to fix up a proper set. Needs some fibro repairs so nothing hard. Just have to raise the car up so it does not scrape on the guard.

Listy,

By raising the rear to the point where it allows the rear guard to clear a tyre has surely going to effect the overall handling of the car.
Are you going to raise the front to match - or have you considered the weight transfer under brakes and on turn in if you don't.
If you do raise the front what effect will this have on roll centre and centre of gravity.
I really think that the advantage of an extra 1" of rear tyre will be more than lost with the effect on the cars handling.
The ' Jacked up ' rear end looked cool in Running on Empty but I really think you better off getting a set of wheels made with the correct offset so you can run the 265's.
Don't want to sound negative mate but I really think your heading in the wrong direction.

Yep aware of that one but I am really not keen to cut the 2 inchs out of the guard I need to get the rears to fit just yet. The fronts are fine and miss the guard by a small margain.

Also I realised that the next race day is first weekend of Sept so more time than I thought to sort this out. Might not need to worry about this afterall. Thanks for the advice anyhow and I know somethings I do dont make too much sence but I often have my theorys and try and work around.

It proberbly would be frustrating for you and I do listen to your advise and take notice of it but sometime I get a plan in my head and just try and make it work.

Too add. I will ensure I give feedback on how the RE55 perform

Don't think it's going to be negative somehow :D.
