Since the car still sees semi-regular road use, including interstate trips, I've retained the full interior, with Alpine in-dash DVD player and motorized 7" roof mounted slave screen. Alpine DDLinear splits in the front and S-type 6" in the rear doors, all stock location. Couple of Alpine V-power amps in the boot, one for the splits, the other for the single R12 Sub. It all stays in the car on race day. Just the thing for those long straights at QR ;)

To keep the heat out, I run 50/50 tint - 35 on the front, with 18 from the B-pillars back to help darken it further.

Looks great Justin. The VXSS's were my favourite commodore design.

Btw what tyres do you run at the track?

An update on the 'undecided' mods - L98 conversion, possibly w/cam.

Justin

Another update.

The L98 conversion has been done. Last year after spinning a bearing due to oil surge at QR coming out of turn 4/5 on the National. Ahh well  Fortunately I had it there on the truck that day. Also stuck in the 233/233 591/597 @ 113lsa cam that was in the LS1, but this might change soon - just shy of 400hp at the rears.

Sold all the A/V system, so next week it gets stripped out, and then off to the cage builder after that, as mentioned in Garrys thread. Threw it on the scales yesterday for interests sake - full tank of fuel, all the stereo gear and assorted rubbish in the car, and big fat bastard driver = 1920kg. I'll scale it again next week after it's emptied out bar two front seats, and then again with the cage in it. When I get around to a seat change, I'll simply weigh the seats, but I reckon the factory VX SS items are pretty darn heavy.

what did you use for datalogging?

Justin

Cheers Taz. I had a Racelogic PerformanceBox. Sold it to a member on here, I'll have to get another one down the track, it was pretty handy.

Nice car/combo man :) . White vx ss' are awesome ;). Got a bit in common, with a spun bearing at the track  :headbang: . Bloody LS1's and their shit oil surge. I thought about an L98 too, but ended up going down the 383 stroker path with forged internals, with circuit in mind. Have you had a chance to try the L98 yet or will first outing be after the cage is in?

I've had it at QR on the National circuit earlier this year. With 55 degree track temps doing (stop watch timed) around the 1min 26/27, so about the same as the LS1 and in much hotter conditions, pretty happy with that. Not been to Lakeside with it yet. Don't plan to have it back on the track until later this year, wanting to concentrate on having it ready for next year. I'll have to get it to Lakeside for some db testing at some point, but that's about it.

So it's all stripped out and caged. Removed the Hayman Reese towbar. It's now 120kg's lighter with the cage in it.

Main problem is I don't fit in there with a helmet on, given the roof bars. Went looking for a seat after trying Jims Sparco Evo3, found some measurements on the 'net that reckoned the Velo GP90xxl was 2 cm wider so I bought one. I should know better than to trust what the internet tells me...

Have a brand new, never fitted black Velo GP90xxl up for sale if anyone knows anybody looking for one.

That is a awesome cage and really good weight reduction. Do you know how much weigh the carpet/sound deading was. interested as i will be removing this later on.

Have a look on the big person racing seat thread. There is some good information on there. When I put my velo in with the mounts I gained almost 10cm head room. The mounts are the important thing.
Your seat might be still ok so have a look on the mounting arrangement of my seat in that thread. I am 6.9 and I fit with head room to spare. Even with the roof bars you should be able to get a mount that works.

Unless you are bigger than 6ft 9 I guess then you may have a issue.

Cheers Listy, the problem is more that I don't fit in the seat, not that the seat doesn't fit in the car... :(

As for the individual weights, I can't help you there unfortunately. I was simply interested in the before/after difference.

I see. It is not like you can modify them either. Will they do a swap or there is e-bay if you need to. I found Velo very good to deal with. I bought my seat direct but needed some "customizing" for me to fit into it.

I need to update some pics with TC stickers now attached. Also, I noticed the other day when paying my rego renewal, my car was still registered as a 5 seater. Since this isn't the case with the roll cage in there and no back seat or seatbelts etc, I thought I'd do the right thing and rectify it so that it's registered as a 2 seater. My reasoning being that I didn't want to get hassled for NOT having the back seat/seat belts etc in the car, despite the mod plate being fitted and coded appropriately for modified seating capacity. I get the appropriate paperwork and take it and the car down to my local transport department. All was going well until their system threw up an error for the CTP component. About an hour later and phone calls between the transport office and their Data Integrity centre and Vehicle Classification department, they tell me it's now a panel van. I make my own phone call to a mate who is a Transport Inspector and he verifies that this is the case, they can't classify a 4-door sedan with only 2 seats. So, it becomes a panel-van, my CTP goes up marginally due to now being a Level 6 vehicle, and any QPS officer who decides to do a QV on my car is going to pull me over for having the wrong plates attached, as the plates are registered to a Holden Commodore panelvan, and the car he's looking at is quite clearly a sedan. I can hardly wait...

Justin, should have left the seatbelts in without the seats :)

Nah, up here you can't even have the retaining bolts in place!

Yeah just spoke to a traffic mate of mine and he said I should not do it, the mod plate is enough to satisfy the locals and with more upcoming use of ANPR it will always result in being stopped unless you can get a permanent note put on under the QV/VOI info.

In my search for big race seats i have found a seat a little larger Justin than even the EVO 3 seat. It is the racetech RT4000WX. I am looking at getting this seat for the GTO mate. I think it will work well.

Cheers Garry, I'll talk to a mate about getting a note on there.

Nice find Jim!
