View Full Version : Havent washed my car for 6 months
Hey all
I havent washed my car in 6 months or more
I have been away a shite load and have been busy as :yep:
My question is;
What damage can be done by not washing my car?
It looks surprising good, thanks to rain washing it for me.
Cheers in advance,
Troy

Contaminants on can damage the paint and in worst case require a respray. Time to give Dan a call. From what ive seen of his work id trust him with my cars (and im a detailer)

+1 to see Dan@dms, he seems to know what he is doing.
The last time my car got washed was when it was at che a few months ago, suppose i should do it again soon.
This guy seems to know what he is doing, maybe you can get some ideas of him.
WARNING 56k no good, heaps of photos.

Depends on what protection was on it to start. Was it waxed at all? If not as Voodoo said it will be full of contaminants, tar, sap fallout etc
This can be removed via a claybar, however if there is alot it will take a fair bit of claying and will need a buff after.
You could have got lucky and the dirt has stopped anything to bad sticking but its unlikely. When you do wash it i will suggest that you go to a DIY place first. Use the high pressure soap and go round the car, let it dwell for a minute or so, then use the high pressure rinse and do it again. Drive home rinse it then wash as normal.
Thanks for the kind words guys, means alot!

Ok let me do some damage repair work on it first though. Ive been tempted to buy a rocket lately. I can get one from Hobbyco for $55 that fires 200m's up in the air and has its own return chute - engines at $20 a peice....so so tempted! :helmet:

Mate I was big into model rocketry when I was 16, had a few, growing up on a farm was great fun. I had rockets that went up to 600m, MEGA!!
Its gonna be hard to find a place where you can fire it without causing a ruckus :D
We should go look at sum man, its expensive but fun.

Bah...that's nothing...;)
My old Dad, who was fastidious about his servicing, only used to wash the car every 12 months or so "whether it needed it or not". His method also actually introduced a new term to our lexicon - "brooming".
His car washing involved giving the car a hose-off, then giving it a quick sweep-over with a soft-broom, and another hose-off, followed by a drive around the block to dry it off...
By way of contrast, he would actually interupt a trip to call into a local servo to get the oil changed every 1000miles, but did not believe in changing the filters or any other parts. I recall the FB that he bought new in 1961, when he traded it at 130,000m it still had the original plugs, filters, and brake-shoes!!!
