I am trying to locate some racing seats in case I need them with the roll cage. Not sure if i do yet but I need a plan just in case. Where do you get XXXXL seats from. I have called a few places and they do XXL but that is about it.
Any ideas or places to call. I am 205cm and into the 140kg area. All muscle naturally. :lmao:

I just ordered a seat for me today. Iam about the same size as you but around 180kg, (of course all muscle to) .
I ordered a kirkey seat called the big boy. Its a budget seat for light circuit work but is 21 inches wide. This seat is perfect with a cage cause you can also fix it at the top to the cage for more ridgidity in the back of the seat. The link for that is http://www.kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=browse&code=Series20
Otherwise you can get a Intermediate Road Race seat from them in 18inch wide or they will custom it to 21inches wide. No one has them here so it is a few months to get this Road Race seat. I think i would fit in the 18inch wide one but due to no stock i ordered the Big Boy one instead and will see how it goes. Here is the link for the Intermediate Road Race http://www.kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=browse&code=Series47
Also Sparco do the Evo3 seat which is big also. But i couldnt get hold of one to sit in to try it. It is big though and i think i would fit in a tight squeeze.
Link for that. http://www.sparcoaustralia.com/page/seats.html
So i should get my kirkey seat in a few days. Its huge and should have no issue. Just have to see how sturdy and ridgid it is. They are cheap at $230 plus $130 for the cover. Ill just pop it in everytime i go to a circuit day. I wont have it in full time.

Awesome. Thanks for the info BigJim. It would have taken me ages to get that info if I was to do it from scatch.
Nice to know I am still a little bloke to some.
Sorry to change topic somewhat but has anyone ever seen seats similar to those in the Coupe 60 project?

HSV-105 has something similar in his GTO ... by far the best seats I have ever sat in, bar none ...
We need to get something for Scotty's VXSS, that's the sort of thing I'd love.
On another note ... BigJim, you're bigger than my family !!!

Those look similar to sparco or bride but with a custom cover. Would not be too hard for a interior trimmer to make up. They are just demo car seats so they could be cut in the corners and all sort of custom things. Dont have to worry about legals, FIA etc.

Velo do an oversize GP90. They are a good seat at a reasonable price.

Without wanting to state the obvious - it is absolutely critical that the seat is mounted correctly and securely, preferably with a support from the cage. I awoke in hospital once, having been punted backwards at about 200kph into a railway-sleeper flaggies-hide and the name-brand seat broke the back-rest off it and put me in the back seat. ( I believe that actually this helped me in absorbing the impact, but I could also easily have been thrown from the car since I was no longer restrained by the belt.)
So, always ensure the the seat is correctly and securely mounted.

Those seats in the coupe look dam close to these ones. These are reclinable but the general shape is the same

Good point on the rear mount. A couple of people have noted that now.

I personally wouldnt get a reclinable seat for circuit work, Velo are good and Aust made ADR approved and the GPT is FAI approved. If your using the seat all the time get a fibreglass seat , some of the steel framed seats are a little uncomfortable for long stints in the seat.
Sparco used to make a good seat called a Pro2000, very comfy but fixed back.

Sorry to change the topic somewhat (again), but did you notice it says "BOOST" on the dash display?

Thanks for the Pm fellas. Very helpful.
Looking at the various options the Velo GPT (ADR and FIA) or Velo Viper (only ADR) or the Salbelt Titan XL (only FIA) all look ok. Not cheap though and hopefully I dont need it just yet. I have options now atleast

Here is another link to a big buy racing seat. It is further down the page near the bottom. Big Jim may be interested as there is one there for drag racing and only $450
I am not sure on the sizing of the others as yet

I have a desision and placed the order today. It is a Velo Viper xxl. Big seat with wrap around on the head area. They are customising to get an extra 50mm in the hip/seat area. Expensive at $1300 with fright but atleast it will fit. I got some measurements off a GPT 3 seat another bloke had up here and adjusted it to make the viper work. The GP3 you can not adjust to suit the individual like the viper. It is still ok for IP racing but not FIA approved. He said it is made exactly the same just never tested as there has never been the need. Other seats in the range are available with FIA. THe viper is just for the bigger/bigger again dudes.

My big person racing seat has arrived. Just by a quick test fit it is all good and very nice and snug. I might get a chance to test it in the car on the weekend to see how it is, where to position it etc. End up being more expensive as the modifications needed were more trouble than originally thought but worth it i think. $1495 seat, 90 rails and 75 freight. Freight was good i thought for a huge box. It is black and gray and looks really good. Very racy look.
Photos tonight when I get home.

There are more photos in the Listys GTS thread but here is one for this thread anyway.
I am a little surprised of the weight of the seat. I thought they were light like 7 or 8 kg but this one is just on 12kg. Mind you there is a aweful lot of seat there. THey customised the seat base width, the hip area, the harness holes raised upwards and widened the shoulders from the wrap around area upwards. It is a firm but comfy fit, just spot on. Only problem I could see it the angle my legs need to get around the steering wheel but I think the free positing and lower seat height will fix this. Might help with the heal and toe. (have not progressed on that front with the new pedals as yet)
Anyone know what the stock seats weigh in the HSV VT/VZ.
It looks great and will really suit car interior once installed. Proberbly need anther one one day for the passengers to make it look even but not for while.

I have not looked into racing seats mounts or frames. Silly me.
My mechanic said it if is a put in take out one he said get a frame made up so that the 4 bolts from the stock seat are removed and the racing seat is replaced with a complete base and everything all ready so that the same 4 bolts and holes are used. The Velo mounts are adjustable up, down etc so that side is easy. I just mount the Velo seat mounts to the frame and to position the frame the right distance back. I also need to get the 5th harness point done.
Question is
Is there a ready made commodore seat base that is off the shelf that can do this.
Can you mount the 5th harness point to the seat frame or should I do another point through the floor.
Some help would be good as I need to get on order monday.
This is the seat mounts that come with the seat
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/Newracingseat004.jpg
I am confused. Looking at the photo does these frames mount straight to the floor of the car.

I've seen seats mounted both ways but usually if the car is a streeter that you change the seats on for track days it is easier to make up a plate that mounts to the existing seat mount holes & then mount the seat via the brackets you have above.
If it is a dedicated track car you can still do the same thing but most just mount those brackets direct to the floor of the car.
You will need to redrill & make a few little access holes to get the nuts on, but it is a relatively simple little job to do.
In a commy you will definately need the highest brackets you can get otherwise your arse will be dragging on the ground & you will barely see over the dash.

Thanks for that. i have done some searching but no luck finding some VX commodore seat rails to mount the race seat on. Are you talking about getting a second hand stock seat mount and using that.
I thought you could just go to a shop and buy a VX commodore race seat mount. I dont want to bolt these to the floor if I can help it
Some help would be great

No, what they do if you continually swap your street seat with your race seat is get a 3-4mm square of aluminium that bolts down to your original 4 bolts for your stock seat and the race seat &/or brackets mount to that.
When you swap them it is 4 X bolts either way.
Mine id just about a dedicated track car now so the brackets are just permanently bolted to the little raised hip area that the stock seat bolts to.
This place has a lot of good gear & I have used them a few times but I am sure you can get gear in NSW as well.

Mine are the "RPM side mounts Tall" but the seat is fixed/not moveable and being steel are heavier than the alloy ones but the steel ones are higher.

I answered this earlier but for some reason it is gone now.:dunno:
Places like Revolution Race Gear http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index.php?PCID=10554 may be able to help you, they are pretty helpfull.
If not probably your best bet is as I said before either direct mount your brackets to the little hump where your existing seat mounts to or get a square aluminium plate that bolts to the existing 4 X bolts where your seat bolts to & mount your brackets & seat to that.
The only problem is the seat will be fixed unless you can get something like this http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index.php?PCID=10554&PSO=245&PSID=4680000000&PSV=Primary&CDO= or this http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index.php?PCID=10554&PSO=245&PSID=4680000001&PSV=Primary&CDO= to fit.
I have just directly bolted mine to the floor using the high steel brackets.

Just to finish off the tread. The velo seat fitted great. Gave me stacks of head room, fitted in the same stock seat mount to the floor. ie the sam width of the stock seats so other than a bar and a few spacers it is a direct one for on fit.
About 6-8 cm head room, the back of the seat has about 3cm space from the padding of the roll cage and width is no problems. The handbrake is a tight fit though so you have to puch it down with a bit of pressure but bugger all really. The setting I have it on now is spot on but just for me so if some one wants to drive it they have to be my size.
Racing this sunday so on Monday it is coming back out aswill the roll cage so back to a streeter.
Note the harness will be fitted for sunday. Just normal setbelt for getting around town for the next day or so.
I have heaps more photos of the mounting arrangement so if you want them pm your e-mail and I will send them through

I thought I would weigh the stock seat in the GTS and bugger me it is heavy at 37kg. About 75kg less weight just the two seats. Add in a 10kg race seat and that is a 65kg weight loss right there. Add to that the 100kg of of sound proofing that could come out and pretty easy 160kg less weight. I am not doing that but good to know for later.
