View Full Version : Advice on cleaning my headliner?

G'day All.
I have a little hassle with the headliner in my VZ - anthracite interior, headliner is a light grey fabric. I'm not sure how they got there (bloody kids....), but there are a couple of grubby marks in a couple of spots.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to use to get these marks out. I'm not really sure what it is, but it's dark in colour - I guess it's typical grime that young-uns get on their hands. I want to be real careful that I don't simply spread it around more!
I bought some of that foamy "interior cleaner", that's touted as a solution for fabric and so on, but on reading the directions more closely it mentioned not to use it on hard plastics, and headlining! Are they maybe referring to the older style vinyl headlining??
Any suggestions? Cheerz!

Hi mate,
I would try the 303 Fabric & Vinyl Cleaner:
http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/303_products/fabric_cleaner
If using it to spot clean I would try it watered down first as it is strong.
The next step would be K2R stain remover which is a great at removing persistent stains:

It is a great interior cleaner and is safe on just about everything but as always it's advisable to test it first.

No the solvents will melt the glue and it will fall down!
Go with the 303. Dont spray it straight on though. Spray it onto a damp microfiber then blot the stains with it

Best stuff I've ever found for removing ANY type of stains from any type of surface.
Cheap as chips to buy and works a treat. I've used it on the headliner in my wagon and zero issues.
Where do i get some of this "exit" you speak of Dave

Hmmmmm - checked out my local Coles (Cambridge Gardens - near Penriff), and couldn't find the "Exit" stuff. (went up and down the cleaning products aisle a few times....)
What is it? A solid like soap, liquid, impregnated cloth... And where might it be if not in with the other cleaning products??:dunno:
Thanks again fellas...

Gday Phreddy
Got another idea for you. Just get the headlining recovered - not as exxy as you might think. I had a VS ute one done recently for $60, I removed and refitted it but the trimmer would have done for me for $120 all up. Doesnt take long to do - couple of hours max.
AA Motor Trimming at Granville - won't hurt to call and ask.

Hey Phreddy,
It's a soap bar much like the old sunlight soap if you're old enough to remember it.
Try some hardware stores (esp HOME hardware) that's where I found it last time.

Hey, thanks Dave - yeh, I remember Sunlight soap well! (my Nanna used to wash my mouth out with it when I "slipped" from time to time!) ;)
I'll check the hardy's and go from there.
Thanks for the suggestion Phil, but really it's only a couple of spots that I want to tidy up. That's certainly worth considering down the track though.
Thanks again to all - lurve these forums! :driving:
