View Full Version : Got the ute tinted
Hey Guys,
This morning i called solartint in Castle Hill to ask about prices. I told Dave what i wanted and he told me a price. He is very good it seems. Time will tell as to the quality, i wnat to have a look in the sun. He said its the top of the line tint with 6 titamium layers or something, i didnt pay heaps of attention.
It looks very dark, especially the back window. I know the darkness but im not saying lol Ill say the back window is 10% cause thats legal. They had a special on where it was $50 off any package so mine ended up costing $240
Pics (sorry camera phone ill get some better ones when the sun come out)

Looks like things are coming along nicely for the young bloke ......you go alright :chuckle: So what are we talking here 5% rear and 20% sides hey mate.......wait till you try reversing in the dark!
Next you'll be doing the dash light change up :yep: .........btw the tray could use a bit of a clean out :stick:

Lol thanks Daz. Whats the fascination with my age hahahaha Yes the Dash lights are on the cards BUT i want to wait till its out of warranty and i dont know if the needles can be change as they are green plastic  I might have to see if the fords use a different type.
He didnt tell me exact percentages i think that way he dosnt get in trouble lol by from the hints that were dropped yes 20 sides and 5 rear seems about right. I have an auto electrician mate and am in discussions with him regarding a reversing spotlight pending a night drive lol
Yes the tray needs a clean, i am ashamed lol

Good luck with your ute.
Dan, these lights are good and not to baulky and wont look like an overkill, don't go for a spotty type lamp, go for a work light as the beam is more spread and you can keep buffing when the sun goes down.

Thanks heaps mate.
The light would be mounted under the tray so i can see where im going when reversing. I gave it a quick test tonight and dont think i will actually need one which is good.

Dan, what products do you recommend to polish up an alloy tray like what you have on your ute?
Cheers

It should be sweet they have a nice LS1 ute that has dark tint as well. Looks good.
It didnt take long at all. I dropped the car off at 1, went to uni, came back at 4 and it was waiting outside ready.

Sorry about the late reply!
I used mothere mag and aluminuim polish, a green edge polishing pad (designed for paint) and my festool rotex. You can do it by hand and get the same result it will just take longer. If you want really insane shine go over the mothers with some purple metal polish. Thats what all the truckies use for their alloy.

Thanks Dan. Do you sell any of these products? Like the green edge polishing pad and rotex for example?
What sort of bucks am I looking at for these tools? Thanks

I dont sell them but i can get you a discount on them from someone that does.
Its not worth you getting the stuff mate, the cost for the pad is $30, polish is $30 and rotex is $800. So yeah lol
I can do them. I just charge them out at my hourly rate ($50) They dont usually take more than 2 hours either
