Well i might aswell post on topic to keep things interesting.

first off we have to know how much you want to spend. After that we can figure out if you can buy new or are only looking at second hand cars. It would also help if you told us the brands/types of cars your interested in.

ps. welcome :)

Missy..

My sister had a few 2 door Nissan's in a row, with the S15 200sx being the pick. I think you may be able to find one for this sort of money with a bit of effort. I have seen them for $17-18k.

If you want a Holden (and the sexiest shape of them all) you should be able to find a S/C V6 version of the Monaro, the CV6 for around $15k. I would pick the Monaro but I am biased :)

Missy..
11-12-2008, 11:27 PM

Good question. To be honest I don't know. I know you can get a non turbo version of the S15 200sx (Jap import). The blown 6 Monaro may be out I guess.

If you increase your budget you can get an early Honda S2000 for 20k. Looks good and fast. Maybe less at Auction. An MX-5 is also a good pick, my ex Girlfriend loved her 01 MX-5 and it was very fast through the twisties.

Maybe a Honda Integra? With some tweaks they are a good thing. Or look into an early 2000s BMW coupe if you can add a bit more to your budget. I have seen them for early 20s.

It would be worthwhile finding out what you are limited to driving, the laws are there to prevent you going "too fast and furious" into a telegraph pole, or another persons car.

The scheme aims to prohibit young driver access to vehicles that are overrepresented in young driver crashes.

Prohibited vehicles are those with:

*
Eight or more cylinders (except diesel).
*
A turbocharged engine (except diesel).
*
A supercharged engine (except diesel).
*
Engine performance modifications.
*
Certain high performance six cylinder engine vehicles or other vehicles as described in the publication Novice Drivers - High Performance Vehicle Restrictions.

Well unlike my x im not a tool, i wouldn't be pulling any fast and furious tricks whilst on P's and what not.....but eventually being able to pull the tricks later in life would be a pretty satisfying achievement :)

haha, fair enough.. no better way to learn then asking questions :D

but serenely, look in to peugeot 406s (coupe's in particular) they are nice, easy to work on and i they have been in maintained properly will have nothing wrong with them besides the top/rear engine mount (Eiffel tower mount as we call them) which is only a 5 minute job to replace... they are a beautiful car designed and made in Italy :D

Sorry to burst your bubble Missy... but the car is SUPERCHARGED V6 and under the terms of your P Plate license you cannot drive this legally on the road, however there is nothing stopping you buying the car. :up2sum:

And to answer your question... yes you can have that in the boot legally, but I don't see a spare tyre/jack, which means technically the vehicle is un-roadworthy.

Hi Missy welcome.

I found the best thing is with buying a car is to set yourself a budget and stick to it.

Given the current laws and your age a NA 4cyl hothatch would be great!

Cars like mazda mx5's are great as they have a cult status and have plenty of great cheap parts avaliable.

If i was you have a look at these for less than 15 grand:

Ill charge you $40/hr. Im not a licenced instructor... Do I need to be? I have Motorcycle, car, and medium regid, I have done a driving instructors course for work also.

Ive been driving since I was 7 though so I have some experience.

I NEED A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR

Why,do you have a licence,if not you will need a genuine registered instructor to pass,if you are trying to upgrade your truck licence ect the same apply's,motorbikes are the same,in the NT anyway and i cant see it being any easier where you are.

I have my L's, but my parents are just difficult to actually let me drive, i've only driven a whole of 20 hours haha 100 more to go and yet they are complaining to me as to why i dont have my P's yet :S totally not my problem. But yes i need three driver instructor lessons and i need to learn how to park properly. :(

Not for normal cars in NSW ... anyone with a full licence can teach you.

If you're charging $250/hr as per your other thread ... why not just pay a "professional" driving instructor and get it over with?

I stand corrected, that makes it fairly easy for you missy ,you must know someone with a full licence.

Bit off topic but its hard to work out some of the rules in NSW,when i bought the green ute they wouldnt let me register it unless i could prove i lived there, elect bill ect,but they would give me a permit to drive it accross NSW with no plates:confused:
I know some people who used to fly down pick up a car cheaper than we pay here have a holiday and then drive back ,seems thats not possible now.

Missy..

because im going to need more then 3 driving lessons, my parents dont have the time apparently to let me drive and my aunties they are the most nervous wrecks iv seen on the roads so yes haha im going to have to find someone else... and yea cbf paying 80 an hour 3 times when i can find someone cheaper

BOMI

Well I have offered Missy. If you want your licence I am more then willing to try and teach you what you need to know.

I have taught younger PPL to drive before, cousins etc. My twin chick cousins learnt to reverse park in my VT S with a big spoiler on the back on there L's and had no problems.

Anyway, Ive offered and the ball is in your court.

I think some old school knowledge of cars is essential if one was looking to buy a car such as this. Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed with your taste (not so much the baby pink trim), I was expecting to see a Mazda 121 or something similar when I clicked the link. That one looks like and honest car though, as far as I can tell from the pictures.

"wee, it's so cute" is not how I would describe and old Mercury...

Admirable taste but ... to put a gay white leather interior with pink trim into a car like that would be autmotive sacrilege.

For the love of all things sacred ... PLEASE NEVER BUY ONE !!! :faint:

I asked my Dad if he knew what it was and his reaction was pfft "angry shaking head look" and walks away :( i really like it haha i saw it and squealed with excitement well i am a girl and the pastel pink trim on white leather interior looks pretty elegant, or i could always do white and charcoal trimming hmmmm man i dont even have the car i doubt i will get it but id seriously consider getting a loan out for it.... haha wait am i aloud to get a loan out at my age??

IT NEEDS TO BE BRIGHTENED UP :P i dislike the red its ugly, black and red is to vampire...

+1 Agreed

White interior is very hard to keep clean, just like Dan said. Every time I put the top down on this car the interior must be cleaned prior to putting it away. To compound the problem, the convertible top is white as well.

Very glad I don't drive it everyday.

Most financial institutions that do personal/car loans will do a pre approval over the phone. Ring your bank/building society/credit union and ask... :)

i personally would not get that for my first car, you will start spending a bit of money to maintain it it's pretty old plus it's in queensland not much rego left and it's left hand drive.
i don't know nowdays but in the old days 2 door's were quite expensive to insure i can still remeber how i felt when i got a qoute to insure my xu-1 in those days.
but end of the day it's your money.

i dont think i want it to drive though and its a valid point i actually dont have any money of my own atm i went bankrupt after kitty, If i was to purchase the car it would be purely for showing purposes or weekend cruises :D

Welcome Missy, good to see more ladies joining.

I'm 23 and am on my 7th car. I'm glad I got my license way before these P plate laws came out because my first car was a VL Turbo.

Before you go for your license you should get a couple of lessons with a qualified driving instructor who will show you all the possible routes that the RTA tester will ask you to drive through.

Great little city car, not for long trips-but that's just my opinion as there is nothing wrong in doing that, great on fuel, Insurance costs and rego is small. Only a 3star ancap rating http://www.ancap.com.au/results/303/ but overall not a bad little car.
