WANTED: Car trailer.

If anyone knows of a tandem car trailer for sale please let me know. Needs to be 2 tonne rated. Suspension and elec brakes definitely an advantage. Only want to spend around 2-2.5k.

Dont mind if it needs minor work, paint, tyres etc. Cheap is good but needs to be able to carry a commodore (tilt would be nice too)

the GVM includes the trailer so wont carry a commodore :(

Ive looked on there a bit though. Every so often there is a nice one pop up.

Nah... no good... GVM 2T trailer wont get you anywhere with a Commodore. Tare on that trailer is 740 so that means you better have a real light Commodore i.e. 1260kg Commodore - dont think so!!!!!

Many guys use these (or similar 2000kg GVM trailers) to tow big cars but its a big no no. You could;

a. be un-lucky and get caught by the coppers/RTA on the way somewhere (stop and leave it on the side of the road). Thats a pisser but better than b. or c.

b. be in a little accident and insurance is void

c. be in a BIG accident towing the thing and damage/ injure/ kill someone else - now that is a BIG problem

Stu, the >2000 GVM trailers are what you are after and they are more than $3k unfortunately (and they must have electric brakes and break-away brake lock etc etc etc).

Dont risk it, the rules are actually there for a reason - wait till you have to break hard trailing the load even with a legal trailer with all the extra brakes etc :scared:

Voodoo dont forget to check other auctions too like pickles etc. Even call car and trialer hire companies as they often need to upgrade. Places like Thrifty and the local garages that have the trailers for hire.

I walk past the thrifty crashed cars and spare stuff each day and there is 3 full size car trailers, bike trailers and stacks of other stuff sitting there rusting. Never gets used. The bastads just wont sell them as I have tried and tried.

I know you posted 2k 2,5k, but there is a bloke down here in tas that builds tandem dual axle, breaks,whinch, 3.5 ton tilt, (drive the lowest of low straight on) with a mass load capacity bran new for i remember about 12 months ago 4k, never used borrowed or towed a better trailer in my life empty or loaded tow beautiful...and be for you ask the boat is really cheap let me know if you want the number, i know of a guy that bought a trailer not quite as heavy duty and user friendly who was down here for a meet from mainland that payed $6900 for his unregistered.. good luck with it any ways let me know if you want his number...cheers.

Voodoo there is a bloke on e-bay that sells off road camper for a pretty low price and generally the feedback is pretty good.
Might be worth a shop contacing him to see if he can build them for cheap. The plans for a double car trailer are available easily enough. Maybe get a group buy for trailers happening.
