View Full Version : 2009 Nissan GT-R Updated Official 0-60mph Time
Not sure how this works, but Nissan have revised the launch control such that it uses lower RPM (softer on tranny bits) yet it's faster? Consensus was that it was going to be a few tenths slower after this update.
So how did they do it?

The Nissan GT-R is fast, no doubt about it. In a straight line and around a track but one metric that sticks in everyone’s mind is the 0-60mph time. It’s easy to understand and it’s easy to remember. One number for one test.
When the Nissan GT-R launched in 2007 and 2008 it set a new benchmark in performance in terms of bang for the buck. It’s official 3.5 second 0-60mph time was certainly in supercar territory.
Cut to this year when the MY2009 update (US MY2010) comes along offering increased horsepower, slight handling changes and revised software in the transmission control unit (TCM). These changes are now on sale in Japan and are being delivered to GT-Rs in the US and Australia shortly.
Back to the 0-60mph time, given the drastic change with how the car launches itself from a standstill installed in every MY09 GT-R it’s only fair to retest the 0-60mph, and that’s what the guys at the Nissan Tochigi Assembly plant have done.
On the 15th of February on the Nissan Tochigi plant test track, Nissan’s test driver clocked a 3.3 second 0-60mph run in a standard 2009 Nissan GT-R.
Utilising the new, more driveline friendly launch method, the GT-R was setup in R transmission, R suspension and R VDC modes. That’s right, VDC was on.
We’re told the official announcement will filter down through Nissan Japan shortly

Maybe this was enough ...

I think an extra 5hp Nick.
Personally i think the extra performance is somehow related to the tyres. They dont something with the tyres i reckon.

 ... an extra 5hp probably wouldn't do much, unless they beefed up the mid-range or something.
I think you might be right on the tyres, perhaps those 20" RE55's that someone snapped a few months back ?
Seeing the shots of the Aussie versions in mags has me tempted again ... but I think I'm leaning towards something else.

I think the premium models now come with the dunlop sp 600 - which is a sticker tyre. Anyway despite the size and weight, the R35 is a track car. Buy one if you're a track junkie otherwise there are probably much better value for a more street focused car, M3, C63 etc..

Will this be the model you're getting Dunc or is yours an 08? Also, what's the deal with the speed limiter? Do the Aus spec models have it or will you have to get it removed?
This thing has to be one of the bargains of the century with stats like that.

I dont think anyone knows for sure what the aussie car specs will be, but they will be here in three weeks or so, i would say they will be the same as above.
The aussie cars will not have a speed limiter, nor satnav i believe.
These guys in the States have started going to the strip with the revised tranny update.
Here is an example of an otherwise stock car, with the following mods
1. Tune
2. K&N Air filter
Otherwise standard car (apparently...) including OEM tyres - the dunlops i think.
How quick do you think it ran?

Still don't know how they've done this, i am gob-smacked really.
He says he wasnt using launch control, but he really was (the guy was confused about what launch control actually is under the revised update)

That would make a good Super Street drag car, nice and consistent. :D
Sounded like it was shifting early, I'm sure it wasn't though.
Wow, I've been away too long.
NickS is no longer getting a GT-R, and Dunc is??

Correct mate ... Dunc and I both agree that if you can't get a GT-R to the track there's not much point having one ... and I'm lucky to get to the track once a year !!!
That and I just lost the interest I had at the start, for several reasons. It's a lot of money to spend if you're not 100% keen ... and I'm not.
:dunno:
Or ... if you listen to Tuna, I was just full of shit and I can't afford it.
:D
Well tuna must be right then hey Nick!?!?!? LOL
I mean, he is god after all?

Totally agree, whilst the GTR is a road car first and foremost, it has the most track potential (given relatively light mods). There are so many other options for a luxury street cruiser which are better value and more appropriate i reckon.

Slighty different looking GTR. Wonder if it is a photoshop or real. Very racey looking but pretty overdone.

Nissan GTR R35 Launch Control Controversy Explained by Chief Engineer,
Cheers John
w1bHGaV-Lvw
so let me get this straight...
"launch control" was never intended as launch control.
instead it was implemented to get you out of a snow or mud situation...
ie. you engage an otherwise hidden feature whereby you stall the engine speed to 4800rpm and then dump the clutch, to get you out?
sounds like a great way to get out of snow or mud.. (not)..
I think what he is saying is BS. They were caught out with a few trannnies breaking, and they needed a way / excuse to water it all down.
"It was never launch control, but ok we'll give you one anyway"...
I don't buy it.
