Little tiny project has to start since the GTS is now gone. Need some transport for 6 weeks so time to get the nissan going.

First most important point: A/C ACTUALLY WORKS
Model: 1984 300zx 5 speed manual 3L V6
Km: 258000
Good condition sort off (not really)
Targa top so I have somewhere to put my head, australian delivered. Price new in 1984 $28000
Power 127kw. Now lucky to be 100
Quarter time should find out in april 10
Purchased off my sister in law as a baby present. Cost $2000 and transport up here $1200. Actual worth $300 if that, but hey it was family and she needed a bit of help so good excuse without making it obvoius.

Immediate plans. ATM it runs fine and a/c works. Had new clutch and gearbox when I bought it. Get this full and detailed service history back to 1984. 3 owners including me. It was in a small bingle a couple of years ago but never repaired right.
It needs the rear quarter panel work and bog, fit the new front guard and headlight, fit the new indicator stalk, good service and new battery. I should get this done sunday. Then monday get a temporary rego slip for a week, get the painting done and roadworthy done. Then run it over the pits for rego and we are in business. Fair bit to do but do able. Saves hiring a car anyway and once it is fixed I will leave it at my mechanics to use as a run around when I get work done on the GTS.

Long term plans are to put a certain C4B 300rwkw V8 engine in it as with a T56 gearbox, gut the interior, lock diff, brake and suspention upgrade and turn it into a drift king. My guess 2 year project but for now get rego.
Photos tomorrow.

Changed my mind and decided to have a crack at the painting and panel work myslelf. Good excuse to practice. Did not come out too bad but was a pain getting the rear guard to pump back into shape. Just used the avalanche jack and a brick under the guard. Seemed to work and reduced the amount of bog I used. The rear gets the second lot of bog tommorrow arvo and then do the sanding back to the correct shape.
New wing mirror glass as the old ones were cracked. $35 per glass was pricey but had to be done. New parker light too.
It will see the road for the first time in 2 years tommorrow to go to the tyre shop to swap tyres over and fix a bloody puncture. 12 months this has been in the yard with all the tyres fully up. I move it and one goes flat on me. Must of hit a screw or something. The front guard come up good too and it is ready for a fine sand and paint. That primer that does both prime and filler is good stuff but you have to keep the can really upright otherwise it spits tiny droplets on the panel and you have to start again.

Nearly done. Front panel all painted and rear fully bogged and shaped. I run out of paint and clear coat so I will get it finished in the next day or so.
The mechanical inspection went great and not faults. I will get the roadworthy in the next day or so and order some new plates with LISTYSZ to go along with the other two plates on my cars LISTYS and LISTYZ. I am saving LISTY for when I get another bike but after the kids grow up is the rule. I ride somewhat mad and have owned some of the fastest bike around. I will wait for a bit first.

Also a few general photos of the old girl after a quick polish. I am taking it to the drags on the 10 April and circuit racing on the 19 April in the same catorgory I normal race. If it is too slow I will go back to lapsprints. I am trying to find a way to get my 18x265 on there but 4x100 there is not many mags around that are 18x9 and cheap

It is all one color now. I will be using some 17s when I go circuit racing with normal tyres only. Not possible to fit the other ones and trust me I worked out every possible offset, guard roll etc but the rolling diameter has to be exactly the same or smaller due to the strut position. It is like 2mm of room from tyre to strut. You think the commodores were bad but these are terrible for strut room. The 17s are +16 offset and 17x8. Nissans Z31 have a low offset from starters. I will get some semi slicks for it one day when some cheepies pop up from the IP guys.

All I have left is some polishing and blending in time and it is done.

The back did not come out that good but it was my first go at this sort of thing. The front is spot on. I am templed to do the GTS spoilers myself. NOT.

It is not perfect but it will do for the next little while. Total of $258 and 9 hours of my time. Not bad considing it was a repairable writeoff a week ago. Plates go on tommorrow and I will do a service if I get a change this weekend.

Big day tommorrow as the latest Project is being releaced so my job for for the next 22 month will be doing that. The letter they issued to the first releace seems to mention my name allot. Tony will be overseeing the sales team, tony will be magaging the 9 million electrical contract and IT contract and the list goes on. Nice to be wanted but my time will slowly dissapear.
It is not right to plug on here but anyone want a investment property call me. 1,2,3 bedrooms from first to 14 floor. Buy off the plan with bg discounts. Price from 250k to 1 million. He he.

From a quick search I will have troubles with brake temps if I use stock pads, major bodyroll with stock suspension and sway bars and I need to keep a eye on the engine temp. The rest should be fine. I am keeping it the way it is. Not interested in spending money for one outing nd in 6 weeks it will be under a tarp again or if someone needs a car I will lend it to them.

Just to follow up. All registered and going well. I found a crack in one tyre so I replaced two new ones to keep it all even. Also found a pair or rear shocks so I got them put on too. It always was a bit bouncy but the shocks were near impossible to find.

It is fully legal and registered with NT plates. I will get the custom plate later on. Could not be stuffed spending $150 on them right now.

On a personal note:
Our development is fully go so I have a super safe job for the next 3 years (not that I had to worry anyway). 2 x 14 story towers. Sold some stupid amount of apartments in 2 weeks just off expressions on interest from previous project owners and investors we have on our books. Total of 230 apartments and sold over 120 already. (Including mine on the 6th floor with beautiful water views of the harbor and mindil beach.) 1/2 gone already without a public release and by the looks we will not go to the public.

There is a big multi billion $ announcement in Darwin tomorrow so looking forward to the future up here. Woohoo and good times in Darwin.

Come live up here if people need jobs or PM me if you want a apartment or investment. Sorry to plug it but I am kinda excited and it is in a boring 300zx project on the forum so no one will read it anyway.

The old nissan get a run out at Hidden Valley sunday afternoon. I will be taking it easy to make sure it does not fall apart. Just a practice for next weekend racing.
Considering it is old and only 3 L na V6 it is a very torquey motor. Quite like it.

Also those that want to know about removing vinaly decals old as the hills and baked on the best way I found was
Use a hair dryer on hot over a small area. Apply for about 20 seconds
Use a piece of plastic with a blunt edge and get a corner started
Slower take a bit off and reheat with the hair dyrer
Continue until done but peel slowly or the sticky stuff will stay on the paint and it will break the vinal which will annoy you.
If some sticky stuff remains use eucalyptus oil and a paper towell. Constanly rewet the cloth with the oil or the sticky stuff will spread.
Clean with metho and you are done. Maybe a wax of the area would be a good idea too for paint protection

Good fun little practice session today. Only a couple of outings and 5 laps each time. The car did well and no issues at all.
I got welcomed into the world of oversteer. I dont get that in the GTS. If something lets go it is the front end.

The nissan is not fast but it has good grip and handleing for its age. Quite good in the corners but major lack of power held it up. No understeer at all but good oversteer when you pushed it a little hard.
Tyres fine, brakes fine and no engine, driveline or water temp issues. Brakes were not used very much as I just could not get enough speed up between the corners. Only bit was the straight and turn 10 where is was just a dab anyway. Max speed was 160 down the straight but turn one entry speed was the same as what I do in the gts being about 90. I was on the power 1/2 way around nearly all the corners so that there was something happening as I exited.
Good fun car for the money. Also I recon this would be a good car for a kid starting out in the circuit world too.
Photos as always

Bit of info on the days outing. Yes I left the roof on and yes the helmet was bouncing off it all day.
The old nissan one the day as last car standing. Started with 4 cars and all had issues and I ended being on my own for the last race so I choose not to run as obsoiulsy I did not want to put people through 10 minutes of watching a slow nissan going around on its own. It outlasted a older R33 GTR, a new model GT3 porcshe and a corrolla.

The nissan did quite well. Best was a 1.43.1. The GTS when stock did a 1.37s. There was a couple of monaros and VY clubby out there doing 1.38 and 1.39s. 3-4 seconds off for a car with 1/3 the power and a extra 200 000km on the clock. Also the later model 300zx Z32 TT (I think) was doing 1.42s so the little Z machine has some go.
I think the cats or mufflers are a bit blocked on the nissan as it is not very keen to rev past 4500 so there is more in it once I get a pad intake a new cat/mufflers. A bit more power, a set of semi slicks, decent pads, brake ducts and I recon 1.35s or less are there for the taking.

Anyway it is not in race car semi retirement until it is needed again.

Well it is official today. The Nissan will be coming out of racing retirement after only one month. So the old bugger will be out there on the 24 May in streetcar shootout. It will be supporting a number of massive modifications and changes including a pod filter, new spark plug leads and a new fuel filter. :nilly: :nilly: :nilly:
I might be using a set of second hand semislicks too (bring on those VE HSVs, I will catch them this time). I was thinking about dropping the exhaust but I would need a down pipe made so could not be bothered on that one. These cars catch on fire enough on their one let alone helping them along.

I might put another decal on it to get another second out of it. :nilly: :bash:
As always I shall post my official results. Last time I can first in this little bugger so come on 2 in a row.

Cheers for that. I have the old bugger booked in for a quick once over tommorow when I get the tyres changed over. Most things were checked a couple of months ago with the roadworthy and shockies I got changed but will be doing it again just incase.

Well the nissan went great again today. Not a single thing wrong. Temps, oil pressure etc etc all perfect.
I hate to say this but the nissan ended up posting a 1.36.5 around Hidden Valley so it if officially faster than the GTS when it was stock. GTS did a 1.37 was the fastest official lap. Not bad for a 280 000 km engine and bog stock and na to boot. I had some semi slicks but old as the hills. Still they did the job ok. I looked on the date and it was Jan 2002 year make.

Anyway the nissan now will go back into retirement faster than a VX HSV GTS.

Unfortunialy one of the blokes up here lost it in his silver manaro cv8. Plenty of money to fix both front side and rear but I am sure he will take car of it. Sorry but not fair on him to plast photos on the web without permission.

Also check out the chassis twist and body roll in the photos of the old bugger. Got to love it. it actually made me chuckle a little bit.

I was lapping in mid to high 1.36 with a few 1.37s too. Best was a 1.36.50. There was a 1.35 in it with the right lines but you either get it right or go off the track. The GTS you get some warning when it reaches the limit. Quite a strange feeling and takes some getting used too.

The F6 was doing 1.33-1.34
The GT3 was doing 1.30-1.31
The ls1 monaro was doing 1.38s
The VE with lots of goodies suspension wise, supercharger etc was doing 1.27s
The BA falcon with plenty of goodies, fat semislicks etc was doing 1.26s.

For the record the GTS when stock did 1.37s and now it does 1.24s. Give me some more power and that 1.24 will not last long.

I could only imagine how dam quick the Nissan would be if I put the same amount of $ into that as the GTS. It would be into the 1.15s I recon. What fun would that be.
(on a side note come to think of it, it would be good fun to put a cammed ls1, 6 speed, gut it, some Teins and a few other bits and it would go like bugger).

I am not getting it as I dont have time to even consider a project like this right now. VX SS LS1 6 speed.

Still that is what I will be looking for in a year or two. It would be a good home project.

Tiny update. I thought the nissan was starting to have issues but it ended up being the rotor button was dirty. All good now and a new set of rear brake pads.
Last race week i lent the car to a mate and again it lasted the whole day.
Next meet i am sure someone will want to take it out for a bit of fun. You pay the fuel though.
