Are you going to be running at Oran Park in round 3 of the NSW IPRA? There is a guy on here, i think his username is choppo or something. He races in it i think, he isnt that great though so even your gemini could beat his 6L commodore. IMO of course

gday mate we need some specs on your car ??? are you running a toyota 3s in it or a isuzu motor. Ashley Birks from your home state runs a gem with a 3s and its a absolute weapon.

Go the GeneralEletricMINI! :D
Welcome mate ... I almost bought one of these late last year except with the round headlights.
1 owner, still registered, plastic still on the rear seats, original spare  & 60000km since 1980! :faint:
Apparently my argument re: it's collective value wasn't persuasive enough.

Sorry guys,
Hadn't thought of specs yet.
Its still running a Isuzu motor. 2 litre single cam, twin 48mm downdraught webbers.... makes just over 140 rwhp.
5 speed diesel box...(stronger and better ratios)
early commodore calipers on the front and commodore drums rear,
locked diff.
obviously running the advans.
Koni rear shocks bilstein fronts.
Times: wakefield 1:12.74
oran gp 1:26.9
oran south 52:9
eastern creek 1:58
its not the quickest thing out but its good fun.

They are a great little car - pretty bullet-proof. I had several and enjoyed some great fun with them - one was good enough for a class win at Bathurst.
Just one thing that is crucial - you need to really lock-up the front diff mount so it is almost rock-solid, otherwise when you get to 7000rpm in top they get a whip in the tailshaft that tends to reef the back out of the gearbox...
1.12 around Wakefield is pretty respectable - that's not much slower than the Lotus Elise's were doing there in the Chance of a Lifetime series

They have that torque tube type tailshaft ?? or can it be changed for a conventional one. I race with a guy that has a gemi as well http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/cars/50%20d_perry.htm, his is a class C 2000cc-3000cccar but probably isnt as developed as yours. You heading to PI for the nationals in November ?
Nice car mate

Yes - that's right. Don't know if it can be changed...

My car is far from developed!
But it is fun and is reasonably quick for what it has.
Yeah that torque tube rubber mount does move around a bit under hard braking, I'm not revving this thing that hard so i dont have that issue, this thing makes its power a lot lower.
This year im only running the supersprint series due to a lack of time with work and a thousand other projects!, so i wont be at the nationals. maybe as a spectator hopefully!

A guy I race with went to wakefeild in his Honda Civic a month a ago and he was in the 1.11.4 in the race, his car has every bit of honda spoon stuff on it and waxes me round the local track, so if your doing 1.12.7 it isnt to far off the pace. A nice Toyota 3s beams engine and it would be a weapon in U2L IP.
Sadly the development cost $$$$ :(, for me to get to the next level I need about 40 more HP, close ratio box and bigger wheel/tyre(205/50/15 up from 185/60/13) bigger brakes (BA rotors, ser4 RX7 calipers) and something to get some better turn in and stop the plough I have got now :( , Im hoping the tyre upgrade will fix this
Hope to see you at the Nats mate, I may be racing hopefully but will be there crewing for the nephews, come over and say Gday :)
Cheers

Im the same John,
I get hosed at Eastern creek down the straight, i need better diff and gear ratios.
Wakefield and oran south circuit the car is good, but i find im in the wrong gears on the OP gp track and im just running outta puff at EC.
I would have loved a go at Amaroo with this car, unfortunately i was a bit young....i only ever did laps in passenger seats when dad was running ARDC driver training....:swear:
So our next step would be a big dollar operation to get maybe another 2 seconds out of the car,
so illjust keep running around and having a good time as it is!
ANd yeah for sure ill come say hi!

thats what Im looking at 3 secs for 10 or so grand :(, my cars the same mate, Im all over the guys under braking and corner speed but get hosed on the straight especially at Mallala, 2nd is too low, 3rd is too high out of the southern and northern that lead onto the straights
I would have loved a go at Amaroo with this car
My car has raced there but the previous owner has that honour :(

cheers mark That was the the Suttons Twin cam 2 litre Gemini owned/built by George Shepheard and I'd just passed Tony Kavich's RX3 coming out of the "Stop/Go" corner at the bottom of Amaroo. As I passed him on the inside coming out of the corner he gave me a nudge on my LHR corner and put me into the wall. The car did a 'wall-of-death" act along the inside of the wall and then came back down on all 4, basically intact except for a stuffed steering rack and me with a broken radial scaphoid bone in my wrist. The tacho tell-tale showed a 9200 max rev, but the engine pulled-down like brand new.

I agree ... time for some "This is you life" Seldo style. Yes it was the good Captain indeed. That was the car we won the class with that year - '79 I think. Janson is/was? a total madman. He used to work out of our premises occassionally and was a total complete lunatic in a car on the road. Fun to be with though... I recall one time he asked me to drop him at his unit in Darling Point and to wait for him in case he wan't successful in his endeavours... It turned out that he'd locked his keys in his unit and had walked to work because no car-keys. So, I watched as he conned some bird in the unit above to let him in, and then he shinned down the outside of the building from the 10th floor on some bed-sheets tied together and climbed in his own unit's balcony, let himself in, and drove back to the office in his own car.... Totally mad!
And again - No "This is your life" thanks... :) I'll just toss you a morsel now and then... ;)
Unfortunately I don't have too many old photos - my first wife burned most of them...:eyes:

Hey Seldo,
That George shepard car is now owned by a man named Barry Thew.
He is on the state hillclimb panel.
Great shots,
I will try get a few of my dads old gemini at amaroo to post on here.
They were by far and away the glory days of motor racing!
I have a CDT car sittin in my back yard, we found it under a tree in the bush.
It has had a hard life. We would like to restore it to do targa but i think the shell has way to much rust........ we might just use all the bits (flares-splitters and bobtail) on our blue one.
I havent seen that car in the flesh (the number 7 car) but my dad has and he wants me to see it cause he says it is a work of mechanical art the way Sheppo built it!

Amaroo was pretty dangerous, in this months AMC magazine there is a story on it and Ivan Stibbard, there is a quote from Nelson Piquet and he described Amaroo as a mini Nurburgring!
My dad went past 2 Porsche's into stop go corner one day in the gemini, unfortunately the wall came up a bit to quick, gee i wonder why! But he tells a good story of it!
He still says "the look on the faces of the two guys as this gemini went past was priceless" "as he laughs"

Yes - it was beautifully built - mainly by my mate Peter Muir, now owner of Bond roll Bars. I last drove it at Bathurst in ...'81 I think. The car was actually sold a few weeks before the race on the condition that I still got the drive at Bathurst. It was sold to the Country Dealer Team blokes (who were trying to do a Gemini based HDT style operation) and co-driven with me by Gary ......I forget for the moment - but he was a Melbourne copper. Despite all the reports to the contrary, he was actually at the wheel when the car was involved in THE big incident at the top of the mountain when Morris and Gibson collided and precipitated multi-car pile-up and the red flag. The Gemini had, up until that point, escaped unmarked but was hit hard up the bum by Bartlett's #9 Camaro in the ensuing melee. I understand that it's now been fully restored to the same condition that it started the race that day. Would love to see it again.

It has been restored and it has been done very well!
Yeah the CDT cars were a smaller scale HDT operation, They ended up in big problems with the one P Brock.....he ended up pushing the CDT car into the fence at Sulman park when they were going through all the problems.
We have one of those CDT cars, I will take some photos of it...(its pretty sad) and i will post them up.
Unfortunately i was not even alive when that 81 race was on.
How ever i was at the other race that was red flagged 11 years later.
Bond roll bars still do the best cages! Would never go anywhere else!

It makes a massive difference! It runs downdraught webbers and the bonnet crushes the first sock......so it doesnt get enough air up high in the rev range.......but it throws me out of I.P......but i get flogged in that just like i do in sports sedans.......
