I am having difficulty getting the guards rolled on the VE here in Tassie.

One guy couldnt guarentee the paint wouldnt crack:confused:

Another has a rolling machine that wont fit the VE hub:confused:

I am feeling my only option down here is to trim them my self with a grinder/ cutting wheel combo. Its not exactly ideal but what do you guys recommend?

in all honesty....

there is a couple of tricks to the rolling of the VE gaurds.
best get someone that knows what they are doing to do it as it isnt hard to get dimples in the gaurds, etc

also u need to cut a section out of the inside plastic gaurd thing before u start rolling.....

The problem with the grinder job is the finish it leaves, the rust that will occur and we all know how easy it is for a grinder to slip just slightly - this can result in going up your guard...

Rolling the lip with a guard roller is something that does require a bit of time, patience and care; and always has an element of risk.

I doubt the paint will crack, but i had mine done in sydney by a fairly well known roller ,who told me straight out there would be no damage, only to dent both rear gaurds at the top.

Like Luke said i think it comes with an element of risk.

Do you feel lucky ?.

I wouldnt do the grinder thing, its just wrong.

Would i use a roller again,probably not.

Take it to a decent panel beater at least if they muck it up they can fix it.

Good luck- i have since used a soft rubber mallet and it came out pretty good ,not for the faint hearted though and you have to take your time and no beers

To help stop the paint cracking, most shops that roll the guards will warm the paint with a heat gun to soften it and make it slightly more flexable. Again not for the faint hearted and would take a fair bit of practice so as to not overheat the paint. Surely you have a couple of mates with old work crappers that wouldn't mind you practising on their cars?

I rolled my guards a couple of days ago but only bent the lip about 30 degrees which was sufficient to stop the scrubbing. Used a heat gun and a rubber mallet. Was not game to go any further.:scared:

There was no need deano as I didnt go all the way with the rolling as above only bend the lip about 30 degrees and mainly up the top of the arch.
