As per other post I am working on a good budget in car camera system. I will have the first one up and running in about 2 weeks.
I will also be looking at GPS versions and other versions that can get feedback from your cars PCM. Thinks like GPS tracking, accelerator %, brake etc all all this displayed on the screen.
I should have the first medium model sorted in about 2 weeks. I can only use the avalanche for road use for now but once the GTS back I will get some track time in with it set up in there.
3 kits are the plan in variable price ranges
Budget kit with 2 cameras. anti vibration system and mount, mic, cables etc for about $350 plus freight and GPS tracking for a extra $100 so if you lend cars to kids you can download where it has been and with the cameras well have then been good or not. Less memory and less camera quality but it should do ok for a person doing the odd track day or someone that are a bit wary of what kids are up to in their cars.
The medium kit basically it will be
4 camera input, one mic input, solid state DVR both vibration and impact resistant, relatively light at 1.8kg. Has full run on and also motion sensing
Removable 3.5inch, 250G HDD
2 bullet style camera at 420 TV lines (with option of 2 more camera at extra $150 odd). The TV lines may vary depending on tests results.
Zoom style microphone with wind resistance
20 meters of high quality wire and connectors included. Easy to make up leads to the length you want.
Medium camera package it will be about $550 to $650 plus freight. Extra 2 camera it will be about $150. Need to make sure the camera are spot on before firming price.
Option of continue recording for in carparks so you record what is going on around your vehicle and in your vehicle depending how many cameras you have.
The top kit is the combination of the medium kit with GPS tracking system that I might be able to plug into this camera system. Not 100% sure this will be able to be done will know soon enough. This will be the medium kit price plus about $500 plus a $10 month sim card fee. (you own the card). For example your car alarm goes off, you get a sms from the tracking system saying alarm, you would be able to call your car and have a look at what is going via your mobile phone.
The other final one will be the the medium or top kit plus a option for PCM input uploaded to the screen. This one will need some work and getting things to talk to each other. Commodores only initially but we will see. Price I don't know as yet.
Mounting systems depending on roll cage, no cage, cams requirements or just street use. Price will vary on this but my intention is to offer many options at the best price.
Installation costs will vary. You can do it yourself depending on what you want. I am going to set the avalanche up to record on start up and for 6 hours after ignition off under the motion sensing setting so trips to the shops in case some bugger wants to break in then I will have his mug on camera. The GTS will be just on start up and shut off. There may be some fine tuning to be done with start ups and stops as was mentioned on the other post.
I will let you know how it all goes.

I look forward to seeing how this progresses.
Do you expect it an option to externally mount cameras?

Wireless no problems. Just a different camera and a reciever that plugs in. .
They are a bit more expensive and generally use suction mounts so it would be ok for fun days, powercruise and events like that. Cams wont allow them.
They would be about $250 or so extra or about $170-180 extra if you took it as your second camera with the kit. The flash batteries would add about $50

Geezzz thats a top package Listy!
ill be real interested to see how you go connecting to the factory computer to get data.
I did some reasearch a while ago, with MOTEC (and other brands) and their Data aquisition systems. They offer direct OBD port connection on many cars BUT NOT for the Commodore.... for some reason..... im not sure if its too hard on the Delphi or they simply have not got around to it or what?????? Ill be interested to see if you have any Delphi specific probelms as if you can get it to work and keep your current pricing model, it will out gun the big expensive systems by a mile - you could be a rich man (richer than you already are LOL). You will see a million of em i reckon..... good work mate!
If you can successfully connect into to the OBD, there is no need for a mile of extra and expensive sensors, which only increases the value of your system.

Cheers Choppo. That side I am working on but there is some cluey buggers working for the company. The DVR has the imputs but getting them talking will be the key. I want it to be connected to the OBT port as you mentioned to save individual sensors. We will see on that one.
Just for some more specks
The budget kit will have 30fps for one camera and 15 fps for 2 cameras. As yet I am not sure this will be sufficent but should do ok for the once every now and then fella
The 4 camera system has 120fps either from 1 camera so with a good 500TV lines camera the clarity would be wicked and proberbly good engough for a plasma screen.
Even with all 4 cameras all connected they will still be 30fps which is totally fine in anyone books too.
First kit as mentioned I will test will be the medium first with 2 cameras and sound.

These are the cameras I will be testing to compare the results. The top 3 are dam expensive and the bottom ones still in packets are standard and budget level. I have 2 more still to come including a wireless camera.
I will be including a second super budget camera system with a basic set up for about $150 to $170 and have a few options. It can be wireless camera or wired camera with audio at the same price.
Options will be a seperate mic for inside while the camera is outside, a second camera, a rugged box for fronts of cars and camera mouts of all different sorts. All cameras come with a basic mount but these still need a mount to the car.
I have this system ready to go and will be testing in the nissan this weekend on the track.
The medium system is still a week and a bit off so the flash cameras stay put

I forgot I am taking the Avalanche to the drags on Friday night so I will get a chance to test it then at a night drag meet. I will have one camera facing forward and one on the speedo/tacko. I will have the mic out the back next to the exhaust so it should sound sweet.
After downloading from todays driving the quality of camera is a major point. It will be a challenge to get the right one that is not expensive but still deliver on the quality. I put the 550TV lines one on and dam that is amazing quality. Compared to the 320 it really stands out. I will be testing the 420 and 480 tomorrow through to Friday. I want to settle with 480 for the top kit and maxium of 420 for the bottom kit. I guess if people want then they can have flasher cameras but will cost more.
I will download some flicks on Monday after the circuit day meet and if I get a chance I will download the drags on saturday
BTW the cheapest one will be for circuit days and drags days etc as it will have about 2 to 4 hours recording time before it needs downloading. Will make most people happy.
The other budget, medium and top kit will have days on end.

Listy, very interested in what your doing, need a good system for the Adventra when it's back. (soon)
Just put a new system in work, my I.T. man got a camera security board (for $200 that just happens to be very close to a extremely expensive system) that has zoning on it so is will ignore some areas and set alarms off in others, takes 16 cameras.
He also said if I want proper person ID then 520 will nail them.
Now I can dial in from home (or overseas) and view all (live or logs) if I get an alarm triggered.
I've always thought it would be handy to be able to video out the front (and may be rear) at will to stop people bullshitting if you see an issue arising that may involve you.
I will keep an eye on your progress.
Cheers

After a couple more days of testing it looks like I need a minumim of 420 TV lines. Pixles I need to work on as I need to match this with the DVR other wise it is a waste if you have a flash camera and a DVR that can not handle it.
I have found a camera with 480 TV lines and 650+ pixles for under $105 which is really good. Good camera for the medium system and the medium DVR.
With the top system I will offer options on cameras from the above to the top camera at 550 TVL and 750+ pixles which the top DVR can handle.
If I can find a camera in the 420 lines and 580+ pixles area for about $60-70 area that would be a good achievement for the budget system. Yet to find and test this one.
Also I have a number of self made mounts in the workings too. Most stuff easy off the shelf gear. I want to be able to sell the mounts for $5 to $20. The CAMS approved ones may be a little more but we will see.
I will get some vid happening soon. Sorry for lack of photos but in time I will put them up.

I managed to get a couple of hours this afternoon working on the system. The mounts are spot on and I am very happy with the footage. I have 4 cameras but only 1 plugged in with the budget DVR. Audio is great too. Excellent with window up and down.
So far I have been working on getting footage and quality via TV sets for people to review the track day. I downloaded the SD cards tonight but when I put them on the computer to play back on media player they went to crazy wide screen. On the TV it was perfect. I will have to talk to the IT blokes to get that adjusted.
On my big screen the image is spot on and even the little old nissan sounds great. I will check the work plasma Monday.
Unfortunially I could not make the drags last night to get a drag run in. Next time.
Finially note to self: Clean the bloody windscreen. I was at a loss why the footage was not so clear with the top shelf camera and spect a good hour bucking around with adjustments on the dvr. Thankfully the misses came along and got some commen sence in me. It was all good after that.

very interesting.
how big are these cameras?
there are 'fly cams', could you use one of those?
also, if for some reason i already had a carpc, wud you be able to provide a kit to film on that sa well as perhaps some datalogging on the pc? (ie obd2 to usb or something?)

The cameras range from bullet style about 7cm x 1.5cm round, to a mini camera about 2cm x 2cm so recording on somethink like that would be easy. I trialed recording on my little G force meter and the picture was great, same with the speedo on the car. I have made up my own mounts to keep cost down. Nothing off the shelf like $50 mounts that you see but they work as good. I am talking $5-10. The mic is tiny or there is one mic option that is part of the camera.
The talking to other systems could be done just the IT blokes will have to get the OBD talking to the inputs of the camera and recorder box so I can get the points I want out of it. These blokes can do some amazing stuff so I am confident they can do it. As yet no progress on this as we are doing one system at a time and the simple budget one is first. The budget one is pretty well done bar the neatinging up of the packageing.
As mentioned it is basic with good resolution and TV lines but will do great for the weekend racer or drag racer. All recording is off a SD card and down load to Microsoft.
It will start dead basic one camera with audio and a recorder with 1gb SD card and go from there what people want. 2, 3 cameras, small or bullet, high res, low res etc. I will explain all this and what it means so you can decipher what is best for you. All depends on budget.
Reason why it was on wide screen on the computer was that i had it set on wide screen format for the plasma screen which I was going to test at work and not the computer. :teach:
I will make sure the instructions are so basic that people like me can not stuff it up.
Due to the wide screen setting I did not record the track day but now I realize it was my fault with a silly setting I am a tad annoyed not to have done it. Next time and the GTS should be back so get some V8 noise in there.
I will get a photo of the size of the power and recording box tonight and put some vids up. It will be reduced resolution to reduce the download time but it works great on a plasma/big screen which I am wrapped with.
Thanks for the interest

One of the IT blokes showed me this off the shelf product that he said may be good for some people.
It has a camera, audio, gps tracking, Gforce meter, SD card memory all in one. Fully solid state. Car voltage too so you dont need a regulated voltage. The camera resolution is not too bad and it seems like a good little device.
It is 12cm x 10cm so pretty small. On the paperwork it says $420 so not real cheap but might be a option for some who just are happy with one camera but still wants all the GPS, G force recordings etc. Group orders it would be more like $350. It is under 100 gramms too so CAMS would be happy providing the mounting is spot on.
I will find out more and get one ordered in. I will let you know how it goes.

They are a mob that the company I work for has purchase agreement with overseas. I will get some details on a PM when I get to work tomorrow morning. No moving parts is the key.
On another note
This is the budget system in testing. Rough but it works. Obvouslty there is much much tidying up to do and ignore all the cig lighter extenstions. They will dissapear and you will be left with 2 cig outlets still to use even with the one plugged in. Under the paper is the recorder so sorry about that (hush hush stuff). The wireless I tested today and its no good. Clarity not good enough for me and the audio did not cut it. I will go on the hunt for another one.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/Camera003.jpg
Nissan test car. Naturally much tidy up to do. I have 5 cameras mounted in there including on footweel, back window, speedo, out front and one on me. Only one plugged in at a time and a mic running all the time.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/Camera005.jpg
Vid tomorrow once I download it. Only 1 minute and 5 meg on photobucket but believe me the clarity on a big TV is spot on. Pretty average looking on the internet unless you do a mega download and anyone can do that if they want. I am not set up at home for that. Eveything thing I do on this is in my own time and inbetween meetings on the road testing.

Needed something to keep me amused since there is not much I can do with the cars atm.
This is reduced big time for ease of downloading. Later on I will arrange a download in high res or just send a bunch or DVDs with the vid on them to people interested. At least then you can see it as it is really is instead of utube/photobucket etc
The speedo one is with a cheaper brand camera but it works for its purpose as a cheap second camera.
BIG Note the sound and video quality has dropped off big time. The sound and vid quality is much much better on the TV or the computer. All the ticks and clunks you hear ont here you almost can not hear on the TV.

Couple more angles. This is a mounting arrangement I have been trying to master for about a month. I finally found a way and it is totally stable and the camera wont budge even hitting it. Very happy and it covers all of the driver, gear stick etc so good for feedback for race car drivers. Total cost is under $8.
The other is the low res camera which would be a great view if you take passengers for a lap with open face helmets. Big smiles I recon.
The toyota at the end hooned too. The old Nissan has a pretty nice exhaust note for a V6 too. Wait until I get the GTS exhaust note on there. This is only a 9 meg download. Reduced from over 60meg so it gives you an idea of clarity.
Next test is out the back mount and side windows.

Cheers Gary. Work in progress bug moving forward
I will have and I have a list options from budget throught to good price but high quaility stuff. I have a few parts, cameras and dvrs now but I have a number on order and a number still need to test. It will take a couple of months if not more. That GPS, Gforce and camera/audio one looks cool and I will be ordering that one pronto.
I have played the budget system on the plazma widescreen at work and it comes up great, like close to DVD quality. Just set the dvr to the widescreen setting and plug in the high res camera and you are away. I have a camera here that is 580tvl and some stupid 1000+ resolution. I am not bothing to even test it until I am working on the top system. The cost is high.
I will have a look at the speks of the other systems on the market to see how they compare. I am pushing buget system and trying to keep the price withing the budgets mentioned at the start of the tread.

This is the camera options I am planning. Both mini box camera and bullet. All color obviously.
Budget 360tvl 3.6mm with audio. Box only
Shock proof box 420 tvl 90degree
Shock proof box 420 tvl 115degree
Shock proof box 420 tvl 135degree
Bullet 3.6mm 480 tvl (90degree) through to 2.5mm (135 degree widescreen)
Then there is a top line bullet 580tvl with adjustable lens from square view to widescreen and very high resolution. Shockproof. waterproof etc. About $230 not cheap but if someone wants it I can get if for them.

In car cameras (interior camera only) picks up movement in the car I.e. someone smashes your window the camera will pick up the movement, start recording and remote send a sms to the mobile phone. This camera movement sensor should be able to be wired into the car alarm with too much effort. That way even with a smashed window the car alarm will sound.
Option for remote turn off your car via sending a sms if the car is stolen. You can control this. Some model cars this may not be possible.
Buyer pick how many extra cameras wanted with low res box with audio or high res bullet. Night driving the bullet would be recommended
If only bullets cameras chosen a mic will be required

2 way video switch via the UHF which ever channel on video you want
7 inch LCD TV on the receiver end with option for bigger.
1 power supply 12 volt regulated and duel cigarette outlets

General
This is the camera and general options you can take for additional cost

Camera options. Change any of the above base cameras to suit your needs. All color cameras
Est $75
Budget 360tvl 3.6mm 90 degree mini camera with audio. Box only $75. Standard square view. Great audio on this camera and good for a second camera. Not real good at night with headlights on etc. The audio is spot on as mentioned and I have not found a mic that is as good for the money. Only a extra $20-30 more than a separate budget mic so well worth getting for the ability for a extra camera too.
Est $90 each
Shock proof box camera 420 tvl 90 degree.
Shock proof box camera 420 tvl 115 degree. Slighter rectangle view
Shock proof box camera 420 tvl 135 degree. Widescreen effect
Est $125 each
Bullet 3.6mm 480 tvl (90degree)
Bullet 2.8mm 480 tvl (115degree)
Bullet 2.5mm 480 tvl (135 degree widescreen)
I am still trialing wireless cameras/receivers but as yet not found one I am happy with. TBA.
Est $230
Top of the line bullet 580tvl with adjustable lens from square view to widescreen and very high resolution. Shockproof. waterproof etc.
Note that some of the budget systems are not waterproof. If you need waterproof systems I can get them for a good price but they are more money. If people want waterproof options let me know.
Would like some feedback.
Thanks

No worries and good to see I am on the right track
I have done more looking into the UHF sending TV signal back and it is pretty restrictive in Australia what can be done and how much power you can use. Not much good for a mobile system either as the car moves so reception would be iffy unles you have flash expensive antennas. Also you have a 1 meter long receiver so harly portable. Transmitter is still small.
The one on the supercars etc have big power transmitters (still physically small) and massive power receivers, repeaters and have a license
The maximum seems to be about 1km line of sight which will do a couple of tracks but problems is it may or may not interfere with the UHF radios that the local officials are using.
In summery there is lots of issues to address and really not very practicable to sell for cars.
I will get one to test after I get permission at the track and at do some testing at home. Around $480 for a 1km directional off the shelf kit. They work through walls but the distance is reduced. Also good for home to back sheds or sending security cameras a long way. I.e. if you live of a farm and you have livestock in sheds you want to keep an eye on and stuff like that. Basically where you want reception but could not be bothered with cables. I am not talking about the $70 ones on e-bay.
You can get full in car camera gear like this one below in the US but they are too powerful to use in Australia legally without licenses
http://rf-links.com/newsite/racing.html
Anyway I will soon have some of the off the shelf units available for some independent testing so i will sell a couple of systems to trackchat member for cost price and I will pay freight.
I will let people know when. I have to be happy with them first.
If it all works out I will sell via a proper front line shop. We are not set up for front line sales. As mentioned I am doing all this on my own but work is paying for the gear.

Hi Listy,
you will have to be careful what frequency you try live video feeds on, especially the 430-440 MHz ones. That used to be Amateur Radio band in Australia, but the lower area is now military, radio-determination. I used to be involved in Amateur TV transmissions back in the 80s, which is similar to what you will be trying to do. My bandwidth back then was about 3.5 MHz from memory, and that was for very low resolution 4x3 stuff. The entire UHF CB band of 40 channels is just one MHz wide so you can't even try to do it on that band. And the sidebands from a TV transmission can be very wide in low quality transmitters.
Some of the other bands mentioned in the US equipment are also assigned otherwise down here too.

Spot on there and thanks heaps for the advice. Not something easy to do and just about everything you do you need permission or a licence for. Dare say in Darwin it would be worse due to the airport and the military. I have a number of contacts from my old army days with people to ring, I know people in CASA and others. Just for a bit of fun it would be not worth the trouble for people without contacts. I will still give it a go if I get permission but that is a big if.
It is not something I will continue with and update on the thread.

Small update
I have made a couple of changes to the options as I dont think a couple of the systems are sellers due to the price and the options .
Option 1 is now this. (I will try and get a couple sent down for people to try on the drag day. No guarantee as it depends when the order arrives and if there is enough time for them to be sent south)
Total cost est $70
1 channel video and audio stand alone unit fully self contained metal case.
Includes suction mount, bike and helmet strap
Also options for custom mounts as listed already to comply with cams
2G SD card
Will need batteries with this
Option 7 is now the below. I will have to adjust them around to go in price order.
Est cost $490
Single all in one unit with two cameras and audio. One camera points forwards and the other inside the car on the driver and passengers. Includes GPS history, screen in screen software, speedo reading on screen (warhoo), emergency record after power off in case of crashes, 25 fps per camera (total of 50fps which is awesome), widescreen for both camera so full view is available. Similar to a in car blackbox you could use for insurance savings possibly. I will be writing to shannons about this btw and my other options like GPS vehicle tracking etc to get approved for insurance deductions.
4G SD card included.
Package is complete with all connections, cigarette lighter cable etc.

No worries at all. i shall be in touch
For people informaiton I did up a package for a mates car up here. Here is the details
He has a corolla race car and Clubbie drag car.
If I was to buy a system, I would want to be able to use it in the corolla and in the clubby.
For the rolla, would like to be able to see the driver overall (feet/hands) plus be able to see out through the front window to see the track in the same shot. A soley front mounted camera low down on the front would be nice but not necessary. Would like it to be able to record a good duration of time with good quality.
For the clubby, the same cabin view again, however would like to maybe be able to see the dash well (good res). A second camera to put in some cool positions (Rear wheel arch!!) might be fun but again not necessary.
My responce
Pretty flash set up but it would be cool.
You would go Package 7 (actually package 6 on here) to suit race cars i.e extreme environment, race car proof, vibration proof, weather proof etc in the corolla and just as extreme on the launches of the clubby. 4 cameras in total input with a LCD so you can set the cameras up between cars. Includes 8GB SD card which is about 140 hours with all 4 cameras on highest res setting. $470 inc SD card reader. Only 4 screws are needed to mount the DVR unit in a place of your choice. Unit dimensions is 13cm x 10 cm x 6cm. Less than 1kg. It will come with a packet of electrical stick on cable ties so you mount these and leave them and when you swap cars you just clip the wires back in. Saves wires hanging all over the place.
1 x Bullet high res camera for the front to suit both cars. Rear view mirror mount on the clubby and a roll cage mount on the corrolla. About 3 minutes to swap mounts. Both use the custom mounts I made. Camera $115 and mounts $25
1 x shock proof mini camera for the footwell with a screw on mount I made. 1 minute swap over of cars. Camera $70 and mount $5
1 x bullet high res camera for looking at the drivers body, hands etc. Screw mounted to the sunvisor on the clubby and cage mount on the corrolla. Camera $115 and mount $25
You would need a microphone. Est $20.
Options
1 x shock and impact proof box camera high res to mount to dash to look at the speedo with simple valcro mount or use one of the dash screws to hold it in place. Wide screen camera so the whole dash can be seen.
Est $70 plus $5 mounts
The one above would be able to be used for under car shots, behind grill shots etc but the vibration would mean wireless would not be recommenced. Good idea to put it on a spot where the burnout rubber wont hit it though. It wont damage the camera but will block it with rubber. Bit of a pain to run wires but once it is done once that is it. Or just put them in temporary with zip ties.
So if you took all the options it comes to $920 . This is a pretty awesome set up and you service both cars. Not bad really for what it is. That is the ducks nuts of in car camera right there.
There you go. A real idea of one very serious camera set up and it services 2 cars with very minimal swap over time.
Cheers

Sorry to bring this up again but I am going to leave it be until I get some footage. I have arranged one of the IPRA car to have the race car version fitted for the V8 supercars up here and at the same time the blackbox fitted (option 7 with 3 cameras and option 6). Good chance to get some full on testing done. Free for him so no complaints. It is one rough ride bugger to great test rig.
Next will be getting footage and over the next month or so I will arrange a bunch of DVDs with high res recording with images from the different systems and offer to people to look at for some feedback.
Anyway
I have tried to summerise it a little so people may have a better understanding without the technical details. Please have a read and if you have any feedback please let me know.

FWIW the best setup (in terms of image and sound quality) that i have used over the years was a mini-DV camera, squished into the headrest on my munro! Since then i have tried 3 SD-card based systems, and to be frank, the image and sound quality on all of them was well below the (very cheap) mini-DV. This is the one i am currently using (http://www.vio-pov.com/images/tac/pov1_big.jpg), and to be frank i think it's pretty ordinary, i am very disappointed with it. If any of your systems give superior image and sound quality, i will buy one for sure.

Just a quick one. This is the soundfrom the back of the nissan. Not too bad and I tell you I can not wait til I get the GTS sound.
Ignore the image as this cameras as they are just there to show a example of a so called 420 TVL high res camera. Says all the goods but ends up absolutly RUBBISH. This is whey I need to test everything no matter what it says on the box. Also I put it in up side down so woops but after reviewing the quality it went in the USELESS bag so no point even fixing it.
The one with sound will used but as a sound and spare camera only. It is not real good even for short images only but the sound is great.

Those ones are a whole lot of money for one camera and sound. I certainly hope that I can get the quality people are after and maintain a very tight buget on the systems. I am planning to do some high res downloads once I get the widescreen cameras and big power DVRs set up. Those cameras have amazing picture quality but you need the quality in the DVR to back them up. You can have the best camera in the world but without a great DVR and audio set up it is a real waste.
I will arrange them in the next week or so.I even set up a Utube account to do it.
Right now the biggest issue I am having is finding a external, waterproof and really good quality camera. I have good ones, rugged ones and great bullet waterproof ones bot no box stlye waterproof. I will keep looking and I will find it in time. (easy to do if you dont care what cost but I do as this is what the system is all about)

Little bit of adjustment needed for next time. It has sound just that I forgot to turn on during the saving of the file. Sound on this unit is quite good too. I have a screen shot saved of all the different things you can do like run two videos at one at full screen, PIP screen, speed showing and others. It come to 61meg so I need to download overnight.

Here is a screen shot of the operation of the package 6 in car blackbox recorder. Very short but it shows the feactures it has. All the screen changing around is via the mouse and of course the sound would be there and image spot on. Pretty cool bit of gear and if people ever have a accident it would be very handly to know what happened. It does not show actual Gforce but it classes a high gforce recording as a event to the top right. The settings are simple to use like hard braking, acceleration etc you can mark as a event. This is good for what ever use like street, race etc. I want to keep this it is so cool.

Finished some custom camera mounts and trials have gone great. (sound silly but I have put a patient applicaiton for both these ideas in so patient pending) If it has already been done I will find out soon enough.
Two systems both with totally solid mount system and camera highly adjustable
This one is called the "8 Ball". You can stack up one on top of each other also like the one below. Very solid. This is a prototype so there is some custom brackets inbetween the cameras still to be made up (as you can see the bottom one bending but with the bracket the same as the one on top it wont go anywhere). It is strong, solid and heaps adjustable even now so it will be even better with the brackets
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/Mounts001.jpg
And this one is called "The Gunner" It is set up for with mulitable cameras. With the right camera choice you can have 360 degrees views and huge camera adjustment up, down, left and right. Hard to explain but it works very well. Great things you can use the varafoil bullet camers for zooming onto the back/front window to stop any inside car view. Mount inside and still get the perfect back and front view. Same deal with the driver zoom to suit.

This is the next one I am testing next. Still street version stuff but I will start on the race car gear in the next couple of weeks. (need a race car and the poor old nissan just does not cut it). Still if the opportunity comes up to go racing in the nissan before the GTS is back I take the nissan out with all the race gear set up.
4 channel DVR. This is the street car version. Anti-vibration mounts too.
Basic specks are
Display
720x576
100 fps (4x25 fps)
Recording
640x224/640x272
Max 50fps
USB stick back or 2.5 inch HDD for mass storage. I have a 250GB one in there so that is about 30 days if I left it on running 24/7. Good for home security too and of these systems.
It is quite small and reasonably light. About 23cm x 12cm and 5cm thick. 1.5kg with all the gear, mounts etc
Also i have adjusted the packages around big time to make it easier. Basically it was way too complicated. I will update this thread soon.
Thanks heaps to those that are helping with the feedback too. Much appreciated
This is the test unit so the finished product will have fully installed wiring ready to go, the front will have all the holes filled and pretty lights on there.

Yes you can. I will get a download organised so you can see them running togeather on different videos. This camera is a all in one so you would have to position it right in a race car as you can not front windscreen mount them. The guy that I lent it to could not use it as he did not get enough time to set it up. Next time maybe. I am going to have a look at some ideas once the GTS is back.
The software comes with the unit. I will see if it is owned by them or a commercial off the shelf product.
If you have good screen copy software recording the screen at full speed with audio would be possible then you can keep all the stuff shown on that video with GPS, speed, etc. My version is a free internet download with no audio and on my slow as buggery computer at home
The DVR i got yesterday all the instruction were in Korean so they are sending me new software in English. It is a test unit and they forgot to change it. Glad I test these things before selling.

This unit if for trucks/buses, caravans etc. Great for truckies for overnight on board security as there is a number of trucks with those vinyl sides getting cut now and people steeling stuff on trucks that park overnight. It can be set up for movement sensing to activate when people are within a certain distance from the truck. Also for caravans reversing, truck, buses and caravan blind spots etc. 360 degree camera surveillance.
Includes
4 x 520tvl cameras fully weatherproof with LED for night vision (only shows two in the picture), 7 inch vehicle mount LCD screen, 4 channel DVR with audio, anit-vibration mount, 250gb HDD, 4 x 20m cables, software for split screen so all channels record at once or viewed on screen individually, 50fps DVR and good resolution across all 4 cameras.
All I need is a truck which I don't have. BTW all the above for less than $950+gst too.

I did a quick trial set up on the Avalanche today. Came up pretty good. Happy with the 4 channel dvr. I only will use 3 channels as the FPS is not enough to support 4 without loosing too much quality. Channel 1 was 25fps, channel 2 was 16 and channel 3 which looks on the speedo is 9fps which is fine for a speedo.
As mentioned only temporary and a good way to test it having it rolling around and the leads all over the place. If something goes wrong or comes loose then atleast I find out about it.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/CamerasetupinAve001.jpg
One is behind the mirror. My intention was to put two on the same mount but I needed a longer U bolt so it could look under the mirror. Either way it is fine for test purposes and I know I need to offer another type of mount.

Soon I will be releacing the Car-n-Truck 200. I estimate 2 more weeks and they will be for official sale. Great unit for insurance protection, recording where you car as been with kids borrowing it, fun days at the track etc. If people like cams have issues with the stick on I am sure there is other options with placement in other areas. The tape is hell strong.
High quality image, dead simple to use also and a heap of feactures.
Some photos are below. Fully removable main unit but the GPS stays. The tape to hold it on is 3M top of the range stuff. It sets like cement and will stay put without any risk at all of it coming off in crashes. If you need a new windscreen etc I will stock spare tape and will replace no problems
Tucks away nicely and does not get in the way.

I got another DVR today. The Dirt-n-Fast 1000
Fully self contained and portable. Fully waterproof camera/mic and DVR (yes DVR too) so great for bikes both road and dirt, open tops, speedway etc. It is full Solid state with SD card recording so it is shock and vibration proof.
Includes it own inbuilt LCD screen for immediate playback.
Very high frame rate per second so great for high speed action shots and resolution is quite good. Battery powered with a spare included. Full carry and storage case.
I will do some in car testing and get some footage from a mate dirtbike in the next week or so.
Here is a quick sample from home. Ignore the Poor nissan comment as I will be fixing it later today. The crank angle sensor died on me so I lost spark. Easy to fix.

This is a sample so I got what they sent. Comes in black, silver etc. Reminds me of my old clothes. I still have the protective plastic stuff on the screen

Most of them have RCA output to a TV. Some are AV but then change to RCA to play back on a TV.
The one above goes from AV both video and sound to RCA so you can plug into a external TV set.
The only one not RCA is the mini DVR streedVid 100. It is USB to computer only.
Does that answer you question.

All good. Plenty of time
I have just lined up the camed up DVR (Dirt-n-Fast 1000) in a full winged top running sprintcar which is running on Saturday night. I am heading over there tomorrow to set it up on his car.
Should be some good footage that one and the sound should be sweet. Great test session that is for sure. Straight to proberbly one of the harshest environments there is to test a DVR system. Just what I want

I can see a system in the Adventra, front camera, rear camera (maybe with sound:) ), speedo camera, GPS locator. hard drive
Would be interesting at the Track Chat WSID day in August, (thinking out loud) not much time left for that though
My I.T. man looked through your thread (he is pretty good with camera security systems) and said you're on the money. He just put a system in at Mainlube that has "events" on it, meaning, I can put a square around the stairs and it will make an event with a link showing (off the hard drive) all who walked up and down the stairs (so I don't have to search the drive for who comes and gos) I can also put a square around anything in view and if someone moves the object it sets an alarm off until the actual object is replaced back into the exact same place, pretty cool stuff, nice software.
We'll chat soon

That is some good feedback so thanks heaps for that Steve. Good to know I am heading on the right track. I would like to go out and say, here have this and that but nothing is going out until I am 100% happy with each unit so I am sure it will perform and can handle what its purpose will be.
The movement sensing is something that is a option for some systems but for incar use it is not really a requirement but if someone wants to set it up that fine.
The motion detection is a good idea for shops, home security etc (BTW if you want home securty the Car-n-Truck 3000 would be a ripper home secuirty unit, 4 cameras with LEDs/ 520tvl, 50 fps DVR, 780/580 res, 250GB HDD, 7 inch LCD TV with splitter and all ready to go complete)
I think what you are talking about is some systems the screen are broken up into cell like 22 cells one way and 15 the other to fill the screen with 330 sections. You fill in the cells you want to block out and set the camera on movement sensing. Works very well.
I have actually done this for one of the busses for the gas plant (trial unit but if the trial goes well it could be great). It senses the movement of the door opening, instantly starts recording, gets a video of the persons face, then the person does the fingerprint thing, then this sets off a photo setting on the DVR and a photo snapshot is taken. If there is any problems then a review is easy to do. This way it is all on camera so no one will try any tricks like the old days of someone else swipeing a card for them.
As for your system you mentioned
If you look above at the RaceVid Extreme, that has everyting you want included in the one package. The speed can be from a GPS or get the small camera set up like in the photo above of the Avalanche Speedo. Sound included too. It has hard drive for street use or if you are really doing some crazy stuff like drags or skidpan day where there may be some heavy duty driving involved, big bumps/gforce, swap it over to the CF drive that way no moving parts on the memory. It is all in the setting so easy to do.
I shall update as things continue to move on.

The test of the Camera system Dirt-n-Fast 2000 went great. (the cammed up camera system) It survived being straped to a speedway car all night and even survived being rolled over 360 degrees. The video quality was great and it come up good under lights too. It will be on this same speedway car for August meet which should get some great footage. It works great with low light too as can be seen.
THis was just a survival night but I was intending on getting one race in but not to be.
Although you say please dont touch the DVR as it is all set but not much you can do sometimes. Someone played with the unit and the wrong SD card and the repeat function was changed so it only recorded a small section of the night and that was only the pit area (about 30 minutes). This does not affect the camera trial at all as it survided and worked perfectly this morning. The small problems are sorted and a clear instruction of please do not change the settings or the SD card is now in place. The other drivers like the look of the DVR too and a few expressions of interest are flowing through. It weight less than 100grams too so they like that. I have like 6 drivers that are keen depending on next months meet.
The helmet tear plastic idea to protect the lens worked great too and only a couple of smudges. With more testing we will master it
Next time there will be a 8GB SD card in there so a good 7 to 8 hours available. The battery lasts 4 to 5 and there is two of them in the set. It will be a press play and leave be for the whole night and he will make sure no one touches the DVR.
Here is some footage of the pit area. I can not wait to see the actual racing. Sorry about the tease but learning and trialing now is what this is all about so we know for when the actual sales start. The car owner is spewin as the footage of the roll over would ba been pretty special as it was back over front. A bloke has the sideline got the crash on camera so once he posts it I will link it.

Some photos of the RaceVid 1000. We are starting on the race car systems finially. This is a high resolution DVR and camera. Equal highest actually to the extreme DVRs.
Firstly I am very impressed with this camera/DVR package. The resolution is outstanding, the on screen display is crystal clear and simple to operate. I did a day test and night and both were spot on.
The biggest point with this set up is the night vision of this camera. It is like infra red it is so dam clear when there is hardly any light. It does not have LEDs etc. Put it this way I put on a $1200 camera and it out performed it with the level of vision for night use and the clarity was on par. AWithout a word of a lie I could see better looking on the screen then looking ahead.
Secondly the size of the unit is tiny and really light weight. Less than 100gramms. The DVR fits in your hand or pocket and the bullet camera is tiny too. Sound is great but I need to get the setting right first.
Pefect for race cars I recon. It is got its own lithium battery that will get about 4 hours and it has a external lithium battery that will last about 16 hours. The battery pack has 12 and 5 volt outputs too. The camera is waterproof, shock proof etc
Only downside is the on screen display does not run at 30fps but the DVR still records at 30fps. It maybe a setting but as yet not found. Also the camera is very sensative to vibration like walking around. You will get that with these very high res units though but the real test will be it mounted in the cars. I dont see it being a problem
I should get some great footage over the comming weeks from the cars like the GTS, motorcross bikes, speedway, circuit cars and I am arranging some drag cars too. The old Utube links will be happening.
I want to get this camera down to the drag days but it is all booked out up here. Sorry about that
Anyway enough dribble, some photos.
Tiny hey. It has car adapters for power too, 240c chargers etc. Can take other cameras too.

I found out why it is so good at night. It has a infra red lens fitted. I talked to the IT blokes here and they were impressed considering the value. The good thing is that the infra red lens does not seem to affect the day time either. Good little camera this one.
I will get some video up tonight. I set it up in the car is the stability problems are gone. Just needs a proper mount which is comes with anyway.

I am still working out the sound and a few other settings so ignore the sound quality for now. I had it set on too high so it picked up all the road and wind noise. Once I get it right them I can pass this on to customers so they dont have to go through this process. This is 720x576 res and 30fps.

I down loaded some video from when Westie (shaun) borrowed the Car-n-Trcuk 2000 blackbox DVR.
This is with the two cameras downloaded individually so not the screen shot with GPS, speed etc. Easier to download on Utube.
Came up pretty good and quite clear. It was a bit dark in bits but it seems very cloudy and dark in some sections of the track. There is about 45 minutes of race car footage and I really enjoyed having a look through it.
Thanks heaps too shaun for the video.

Tommorow I am straping the RaceVid 1000 onto my monster truck remote control and hit some jumps. Should be interesting and a good rugged test for it. I will also get the motorcross video back early next week too.
Also I have sorted the sound out on the RaceVid 1000. I found the external mic is for high sensative sound and the internal mic is for louder sounds. It came up great and no more fuzzy sound. Good thing is this means I can swap and change cameras for this unit as some cameras do not have sound with them. Bit of a bonus.

Listy,
No probs with getting the footage and "testing" of the camera for you, was a pleasure. Apologies for the slow driving, but thats all I got:lol: Thanks for sending the unit down to me really.
As per what Listy said above, the raw data is much better than what you can see on youtube, as with most cameras:doh: The dual camera setup of this blackbox unit I thought was great! It's really easy to use the software that comes with it, and the whole picture in picture feature is cool as. In my opinion the GPS feature of the camera is simply a bonus to a system that already has 2 cameras on it.
To set it up, I simply stuck the unit to the windscreen (after scrutineering), plugged it into the newly installed 12V socket, and away I went. Everything was automatic, no batteries, just turn the key and go. This makes life very easy, and allowed me to think about my car and setup, rather than playing with the camera.
I can see this camera having many more purposes than even racing.
The only thing I could fault would be the accuracy of the GPS system, I think the pace I was going it struggles to keep up, maybe the Hz of the system? So using it as any form of datalogging would not work.
Still though, a great unit, very easy to use, and so many features.

Cheers and it is getting there. Westies testing came up pretty good.
As for the testing planned I had it booked on a supercharged drag car for last Saturday night but I wanted to get the sound sorted out first so I cancelled the test. Bit of a shame but I would prefer to have it right than put a shitty sound video up again. There is number of drags blokes interested as with speedway guys so I just want to get it right and be able to tell people what to set the sound too for the particular cars and noise levels.
I will get some general night time driving up by the end of this week once the GTS is back. I need the sound testing done so I need a louder sort of car and the nissan and the avalanche are too quiet.
I have the RaceVid 1000 booked in for night time drag testing on the 31 July which will be my mates statesman which should do very low 12 or even 11s. It will have dropped exhaust, slicks so it will be a good test for sound, take off and night vision. I want to have a chat with one of the bike racers to see if they mind too.
As for planned events I will have the GTS back so there will be upcoming circuit racing next weekend and then the drags on the 31 July. I will be using the Dirt-n-Fast 2000 as well as the 4 camera Car-n-Truck 3000 with the LED cameras and the Car-n-Truck 2000 blackbox recorder. Running 7 cameras is silly but testing is testing and I need the testing done.
I will send you a PM too.
Also I run out of day to get the camera on my RC monstor truck. Try again during the week.

Few videos to watch. About 10 minutes all up. It is all recorded on the RaceVid 1000 DVR I will be selling. The sound is heaps better than before so the adjustments are working well but some crackle noise came into the video during the download. Dare say the reduced meg on the download caused it but not sure as yet. It is totally clear on the original. Also this was done with USB back up to see if there was a difference noticable in the frame rate but does not apear to be. I think there is some picture difference but it is very small so hard. Only reason USB is useful is that you can use a external USB memory so it can handle up to 32gb. That way the 16 to 18 hours of external battery life well below the external memory. Not sure who will need that much memory but it is a option for people.
BTW in the videos ignore some of the chit chat and the bit upside down bit. I was too excited to look at the screen on the dvr and did not realise until later.

I finished the roll cage mounts and they are strong as hell. Passed scrutineering without a problem and his test was to grab them and swing shake the hell out of the mount. It did not move so he was happy. I put some padding around there just incase they had a issue with edges. I had 3 cameras plugged into the RaceVid Extreme DVR, one forward, one varafoil facing backwards so I could zoom in to the back window only and finially the little video/mic on the speedo.

Also the 520 tvl cameras for the car-n-truck 3000 and optional for other systems like the Dirt-n-Fast systems. Full sony HAD chip cameras. Weatherproof, shockproof, impact proof and on and on. Again proper solid connectors not just some plug that will fall out half way around.

They do but I have not even started looking at that as yet. Handy though and once I work out getting the inputs off the car I can do up a some instructions for people on how to do it even after they buy the unit. Again it will be VT to VZ initially and see how we go from there.

Here is some video I grabed on the way home today. Something different but next time I will put it in the front door. Worked very well. The sound is not much good once the car is moving but stationary and initial take off it is ok.
The camera is the StreetBox 1000. Not sure what to do with this camera if I should keep offering it or not. I will see what the feedbackis like after the drag day and go from there.

Here is a few laps of a Honda S2000 race car. This system is the Dirt-n-Fast 1000 (the camoflague one) I have done up a quick speal on Utube to explain each video and progress on the testing.
BTW it is not a problems with the camera, just with positing too high. If I had the roll cage mount so we could of put it on the rear cage it would of been fine. Trial and error but when I sell then I know what to supply to customers to make them work for their needs.
Listen to this thing rev. The wind get too much in places and the noise of the car was too much for the mic settings once it got moving. Next time the mic will be turned down more and I will have a foam wind cover on there. Of course if someone buys it you set it for your car after a quick trial run and job done. This setting worked perfectly for the GTS but the S2000 is one noisy little car and dam fast. Overtakes a 6 liter clubbie on the straights.

I have some coming from inside a 11 sec statesman with the RaceVid 1000. It was with the optional widescreen 580tvl camera which I was testing last night. We did not get any with the standard camera that comes with the package. I think of left the battery on all afternoon by accident and it run out :hmmm: . Normally easy fix and plug into the cig lighter but the car had other data gear already in there and we did not have a double adapeter. Good thing about all this is lesson learning and work out exactly what to sell to get a complete package and also be able to write up instruction sheets to save people going through these issues. Either way I will have some with the standard at night soon. It is about a $95 option to get the flash 580 tvl camera.

Enjoy, and thanks to Mick for chucking the camera in the car. As mentioned the standard camera test still to come but camera actually works better at night so can not see any problems on a drag strip.
This was mounted on the passenger head rest with one of my mounts provided. Took like 20 seconds to mount and line up. The other camera was set up on the rear view mirror ready to go.

Proberbly could but you would need a perspex cover. I have designed a bit of a idea to do that job which was set up for the speedway test. It copted a floggen too. So much for no rocks on a speedway track. Dead simple to change as we rigged up a type of rip off system like on the visors.
They are heading out Friday and saturday night so I will have hours of speedway footage to upload.
Anyway I got some time to get the 4 channel Car-n-Truck Blackbox 3000 set up in the GTS. I have another 2 of these systems on busses already testing but I better get some testing done myself. I already had a 4 channel in there so now 7 cameras are rolling in the GTS.
There is a side note to go with each video too to explain further.
This is just a screen shot too so the quality is average but video to come.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxLa6XfSkRA
Of course this is just set up for testing so as for CAMS or any flash mounting set up it has not been considered.. The other ones with padding are for cams use. These could be mounted properly with hoseclamps on roll bars and stuff like that. Easy to do but these are full on heavy duty, tough bugger cameras, adjustable sun shades, covers to stop stone chips when not recording so no need need for this sort of thing inside a car.

Some video of the Car-n-Truck blackbox 3000. The cameras are the ones that go with the kit so the quality is not race car high quality you get from the high res bullet cameras but not too bad and will do the job perfectly for their intended purpose.
The DVR used on the Car-n-Truck blackbox 3000 is used on other like the streetbox extreme so you get the same program as you see in this link. It does not have PIP but you can swap and change between any of the 4 cameras so really it is pretty good. The RaceVid extreme systems do have PIP though. I will look into to see if I can find a program that I can include if people really want PIP with the streetbox extreme.
ALso ignore the front view being on the wrong side of the road. That is a demo on how the mirror camera work. More for the truck, bus drivers for reverse and rear view cameras. Spin out though and hey driving in the US practice

Forget to mention the vehicle tracker is just about ready so I have some demos coming
It features
SMS and e-mail to advise your alarm has gone off
Anti vibration and tilt to advise if you car has been tampered with so you get a SMS and e-mail. That is to atleast let you know the windows may have been broken or the car has been attempted to be put on a tilt tray. This is becomeing more and more comming tilt tray theif as normal car alarms wont detect that.
GPS tracking with history so if no GPS reception it send the last known location
You get a photo from a video camera sent to you if the alarm goes off. You can also request via SMS additional photos so you can get a picture of the theif as he is driving away so atleast if they do get away you get a image of the bugger to give police. Great for insurance proof for assisting with claims.
There is several options like speaking to the person driving via speaker and tell then pull over and get out before it is too late and many more.
Of course there is the DVR that is included with the systems with the 4 cameras running while the car is on aswell so if you get your ride back imagine showing your insurance what happending to assist with claims against engine abuse etc.

This was the first test so I am still working out fps rates, the volume setting and the rest. it will get better dont worry about that. I have a system that does 100 fps so you get 25 pfs on each channel. Not quite as high resolution but still pretty good. So if you want all 4 cameras working flat out and no flicker then that one is for you. It is the RaceVid 2000 and it has PIP.
If you only run 2 or 3 cameras and want very high quality and still good fps rate then the RaceVid extreme or the StreetBox extreme are the choice.
The test was set up like this. 25 fps front view, 16 fps back view, 7 insdie and 7 feet. Next time I will use more fps on the feet as you can see they move quick. Inside view and back view we wont need as many fps. (frames per second)
I got a quote for a interactive web site today
Once I got back on my chair after falling off i will have to arrange some funds. Not cheap but if we are going to do it we might as well do it right. It will be full on flash web site, pay over the internet, select options by a simple tick, have credit card, paypal etc. They do professional photos of the systems, do up professional videos with each system for the web site so no more fat people like myself in there. Good thing too. I have told then there will be no editing of improving the quality etc but they will be able to do full speed and definitian uploads to the internet which will help show people what the real video will come out like instead of the reduced mgeg you see on some Utube videos. They still will use the GTS footage on the race track etc.
More to come on that.

Have to agree I like that one too and cool features. He has set it up to suit what I wanted and he thought it was silly idea to do photos but he did it up for me regardless. Not a bad price either. You provide the SIM card and that is the only on going fees other than the usage of sending SMS/photos.
It had a shut the car off remotely via SMS feature but I would hate to see the legals tied in with that so i have asked it not to be included

I got some photos tonight of the RaceVid extreme system
This has 4 channel, 50 fps total, 720x572 res, several in car inputs for brakes, speed etc, it has GPS, 7 inch LCD screen, cameras and all the bits and pieces.
The RaceVid extreme has the option of HDD drive or CF memory for those really rough race cars. Although the systems I sell have the new technolofy floating HDD the CF memory has no moving parts and works like a bigger SD card than can hold lots of memory.
I have not started formal testing as yet but just a quick play it seems like a good bit of kit.

THis is the Car-n-Truck blackbox 1000. Once again a great bit of kit and very good value. It is one camera but has heaps of flash options included like Gforce graph, GPS, speed and a option for 2 cameras. The reason I am only providing this as a one camera is that the max fps rate is 30 so it is too slow for 2 cameras. If people wish you can have two for a small extra cost.
This is the one I will be giving away for the raffle for the trackchat drag day. Lucky bugger as it is a good bit of kit.

This DVR is the StreetBox 2000. General purpose DVR. It has inbuilt camera and a input for a external camera. The mic is inbuilt. The package comes with a mini bullet camera and power cable.
This would be handy for road bikes too due to its tiny size as it is no weight either. The camera provided will be waterproof and small too. Just need to prevent the DVR getting wet. It is shock resistent and full solid state.
Very handly how small and light this is. It has 25fps, inbuilt screen, 680x480 and comes with 2GB SD card.

I was hoping to get the RaceVid Extreme set up in the GTS for this sunday but so far I have not been able due to my back. I hope I can work something out as the plan is for my wife Helen to take if for some laps. She is keen but I guess we will see on the day. I can not drive for another week or so. Again it is a fun/practice day. The RaceVid Extreme has a high speed GPS unit that recieves 10 signals per second so in theory it can be a lap timer also. Not sure as yet though. Also has 4 cameras, 7 inch LCD, 720x576 res and total of 50fps.
A little of details about the RaceVid 2000 is available now. It has 4 channels and the kit will come with 2 cameras (option to go to 4 of course), a inbuilt 7 inch HD LCD screen, 704 x 288 widescreen recording, 100 fps (yes that is 25fps per camera or 50fps for 2 cameras super fast stuff), picture in picture, floating HDD recording with USB recording available too and plenty more. I dont expect people to read all this but just for more information on the tracker system.
I spent last night reading the ins and out of the Tracker systems and I think it might be way to much for the average person. This is one serious tracker unit that can do some freaky things.
Since I have it I will set with the basic things but I have a feeling it will not be the one that will be selling.
The easy option is you simply wire into the ignition wire from the engine bay with the special relay wiring set up that detects the car alarm disengage legally (excluding stolen keys) so if the ignition is on without the alarm disengaged then it sends you a event log, the GPS coordinates sent via SMS to mobile, sends a e-mail and can be set up to ring your home phone. You then can request a photo if you choose the option to have the camera set up, listen to the inside of the car or if you choose to wire it up shut the car off remotely (I did not say to do that though).
There is the vibration and tilt function that is in addition to the below for car theft from tilt trays. You can also wire into your horn to set that off too so it can be separate to your car alarm. Even if they override you alarm the horn will still go off or you can send a request remotely to make it go off. There is even a car jack emergency button.
Question what do you do about stolen keys from home robberies overnight and you dont notice. You have several other options to alert like Geo fencing i.e. set up a boundary where you commonly drive, over speed alerts and others as per the below.
Once you do notice the keys missing simply dial up the tracker phone number and get the last know coordinates. Even if the battery is disconnected it will still send it for up to 2 hours but the memory stays for 15 days.
I dont expect people to read this but it is just to give people the idea that the tracker can do. This system suits the basic car through to fleets but the problem is I think it will put people off.
Here is a sample from the manual to give you some idea the stuff that this thing has with it.
III. Function Introduction:
1. 14 channels signal detecting
It can detect the following signal:ACC, engine, brake, left indicator, right indicator, air conditioner, door, low voltage, high voltage, backup battery, fuel and power break, SOS,GPS antenna open, GPS antenna short circuit, over speed alert, external device. Control center can check out this state any time and monitor the signal.
2. Three alert type: SMS;GPRS; vehicle voice and light and 12 channels alert.
Enter geo-fencing alert、out of geo-fencing alert、over time parking alert、GPRS module re-start alert、fatigue driving alert、Over speed alert、Robbed alert、backup battery alert 、illegal open door alert、illegal ignition alert、fuel consumption alert、GPS antenna on alert、GPS short circuit alert. This kind of alert can be setting as different state, such as only stop to sending alert or sending alert one time after receiving control center confirmation.
3. Support 16 channels geo-fencing , alarm methods that can be selected: enter alarm, out alarm, alarm all, no alarm.
4. Explode resistance function: it will be required to turn off all of wireless device when refueling in some special position. this function is used to stop the GPRS data transfer when ACC off.
5. History data checking:
Support history track checking and playback,
Fuel consumption history checking,
Alarm information history checking.
Rout planning.
6. Support TCP and UDP data transfer model
7. Real-time fuel consumption monitor and history fuel consumption checking.
8. 24 hours online, GPRS transfer, restart when disconnecting, remote control restart unit.
9. GPRS/GSM/RS232 command format is the same, support setting by RS232/GPRS/GSM, All of the command is ASCII code, easy to used and check.
10. Supporting setup and inquire command by vehicle owner mobile phone and control center , suitable for management.
11. Real-time monitor function , uploading data about car state and position in preset time and preset times.

Some more speedway video with the Dirt-n-Fast 1000. Well worth a look this one. This is about as close to a drivers view of a speedway car you will get without driving one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I543ROQAaog
We tried a new mount and new placement. The video came up great but not practicable putting it there. Way too much mud and since it was exposed it took a direct hit with a rock. The rock must of been traveling as it went throught 4mm thick perspex cover I made up and still smashed the lens.
That happended on the first lap of the first race. The video was not worth uploading as the camera was covered in mud on the first corner on every race once the race started (they cleaned it after each race). Very wet track Friday and Saturday night. Even still it kept recording for all the two nights races and i have about 1 hours of races but none clear except the practice.
Not a big deal as the camera is not much to replace. Most of the cost with the Dirt-n-Fast 1000 is the waterproof DVR.

You wonder why I dont drive at night with the family in the car up here.
One very drunk drink driver last night. Spotted on the incar video called Car-n-Truck Blackbox 2000. It lost some res due to the upload so I will explain it.
When he turned into Leanyer road he indicated right instead of left, then he swerved a few times and once about 1 meter over the centre line just before that car came the other way. You can see he did not even know brake from accellator. Completely wasted.
I gave a nice little beep to the idiot as I went past. Thankfully he pulled over and I hope he stayed there.

Cheers mate. Those little camera work well.
Some video of some of the laps
This lap was a 1.25.5. As you can see pretty slippery and I made 3 obvious mistakes so it was far from full on fast. Easy one or a bit more seconds to go. I was still holding back in places as it will take a bit to get game again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otmbpEAQtPE
The engine data from the lap. Not sure on the AFR so I must not have calibrated it right. It does not move.
It is a bit booring to watch on its own but if you like engine data it might be of interest. Top speed was just on 211 but watch the speed come off after hitting 211. Intake temps were crap even at 200+. Need to do something there. It was a 35 degree day and high humidy. Dam dam hot for racing cars.
.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K86D0uEvdYM
I will combine all this with the other recorded vids. I went out with the race cars in practice so I have some good video of that and even one that had a full on brake lock up behind me. Big piles of smoke on the back facing camera.

I have another one nailing a heap of jumps with the RC monster truck. I will need to adjust the camera position to try and get a view so you can tell when it leaves the ground. A couple of jumps at the local BMX track were huge with nearly 2.5 meter drops and flying about 4 meters long but it does not look like I even jumped. I will try a couple of other ideas. I did a couple of major crashes too. That camera is tough but the mount does help protect it. I was going to put it on my RC plane but i crashed it and destroyed it on the first flight. I will give that a miss.
Also I thought this might help people understand all the words and abbreviation.
This is just a brief rundown and there is much more to it but the basis is below. All cameras and DVRs I supply are both very high res and tvl
DVR: Digital video recorder.
1 to 4 channel is the number of camera inputs the DVR can handle.
IR: Infra red lens. The camera can see in the day and quite well at night.
HDD: normal hard drive in a computer but it is just the card
250gb: Size of the hard drive. The higher the number the more hours of recording time.
8GB SD card; The standard SD card as per you digital cameras at home. The bigger the GB the longer recording. 2Gb about 1 hour, 8Gb about 7 to 8hours.
640/480 or 720/572 res: The higher the resolution the better the quality on a computer screen i.e the picture is larger so if you download to Utube it will be a higher quality download. Also suits the bigger computer screen for playback or those that want to playback to your TVs.
30fps: The higher the fps (frames per second) the faster and less flicker in the video. The human eye can see up to 16fps unless there is a fast moving object like race cars.
580 tvl camera: The higher the tvl the more tv lines on the screen hence a better quality and more detailed image. These cameras are some of the best on the market (some of these bullet camera retail for over $350 on their own but not here). You need to match the tvl with the resolution of the camera with the recording resolution on the DVR.
Sony Super HAD: High quality night and day cameras with Infra red ability and will have a very high resolution but generally slightly less tvl. The high resolution and IR ability makes up for it.
CF card: Like a bigger SD card and can go to quite large size. Able to do very fast uploading with high res DVRs and multi channel DVRs.
WP: Waterproof cameras.
Any questions please ask.
Also some on bonnet burnout video from Saturdays night burnout comp. Not my car obviously.

This is a custom system I made up for a forum member. This is for overnight and during the day carpark/street security. Very cool set up actually. (psst very handly for night time drags too)
Includes
Mini DVRs x 2 (mics are inside the DVR units and not external)(DVRs are 6cm x 4cm x 1cm so easy to hide). Very low power consumption
Top of the range mini sony super HAD extreme low lux (.00001 lux) box style 550 tvl and 120 degrees for inside car (IR night vision lens with auto day change over). This camera is waterproof too and one very serious piece of kit with masses of adjustment for light blockout and numberous other feactures. Designed speficially to get people faces in low light. No LED required so the power comsumption is very low. It is very small too so easy to hide (no photos of this sorry)
Camera rear view number plate mount Sony super HAD 480 tvl and 150 degrees wide view waterproof (IR night vision lens with auto day changeover).
Permenant connection to the cars battery for main power supply with a low voltage cut off relay i.e so the cars battery does notrun flat
One single backup lithium battery with both 12 and 5 volt to supply the camera and the DVR for up to 8 hours incase the main battey gets low.
All cables for cameras, battery etc.
Around the $600 mark. (which is very well priced)

This is one of my mates who organsed one of the StreetBox 1000 DVR to be put in a burnout car. Again a good example of the sound when it is overwhelmed with noise with the StreetBox 1000. The video quality and the budget camera makes up for it I believe. Not bad for a $70-80 DVR camera. Some good steering in the smoke too. That is only 4 car widths wide track.
I still have the RaceVid 1000 video to come so that should be great. The RaceVid 1000 was on the roof I think so it should be good video and it is IR lens too.
There is some more RC buggie and RC drifting video to come soon. It is just playing around until the next street meet. I missed the drags from Friday night as there was numberos car issues and the cameras was the last thing on my mate mick mind. Also the battery went flat too.
Finially I will have the low to the ground out the front video this week too. Some of the best video to date I believe. Simply cool

The resolution dropped a fair bit from the file download as I never shortened it. Either way the first 2 odd minutes are ok. Ignore the rest or watch it if you have nothing to do. You can see where the errors were and places that should be flat out where I lifted. Weak but it will take time after 5 months.

I would love to mount one of those on the bottom of the splitter
There is some splitter video up now if you wanted to have a look. The post above
Also today was good day for sales and we have not even launched yet. 22 trucks including semis and road trains to be set up including the vehicle trackers and the Car-n-truck Blackbox 3000. I thought these would go well. We subcontract the installation.
Also I finished sorting out the tracker now and worked it all out. Testing is all finished too. The software is great and very simple once it is set up. Setting it up is a pain I admit and I needed a audio installer but worth it will all the features. I have the tilt and vibration sensors all rigged up and working. I was going to use the mercury switch but I found a better system without the risk of mercury inside the car. Totally simple and really safe. Next I am working on a glass break noise sensor that can scense the glass breaking (breakins etc) and via the tracker set the car alarm off and send a SMS and e-mail. I will get some video up soon (not of glass breaking but of the software)
I understand this is really extreme and most people wont want this sort of thing but at least there is a option for people.

This will be the last post on here unless there is some announcement date for the web site launch.
I will be updating and adding to the Utube videos and putting video of the GTS racing in that thead so feel free to check out the videos as they come up.
Thanks for all those that followed it though, all your thoughts and input. It was fun doing development on this on a open forum and many many late nights and couple of 1000 hours plus of my own time into it let alone those that assisted with video gathing. I will be continuing testing but things are working out well including sales even without the launch/website.
Keep an eye on in the for sale thread for some ex demos and spare new DVRs are now available with more to come soon.
Finially, This is my selling case for showing demos (for now as I have a flash one being made up and I will get our sales team to look after that side of it). I have another smaller case with all the small dvrs in it too. They are fully connected and self powered so I just rock up, do a speal, show a demo of each camera, some video on a laptop and go from there.
As they say: That will do pig, That will do.

OK TrackChatter, i worked out with Listy some time ago to help him out with sales, so im running a demo set up for him. Debut = Last round at OP next week!
Finally got around to installing the system today 95% complete - sorry to take so long Listy!!!!!. A few new angles incorporated into my usual set up;
1. on the boot rear facing camera - no more looking through the rear windscreen
2. a 'pedal cam' to replicate the V8SC footage and see my fancy footwork :nilly:
3. the usual 'out the front from inside' cam so you can see the hands and arms flying
Hopefully after some editing, it should be a good bit of fun vid! There is an option of one more camera input, so once ive worked out where it could go, ill probably add it too.
Maybe i should get a really little infra-red micro camera and make it 'pucker cam' :chuckle:

Unfortunially the DVR did not do to well with much harder suspension race car on Choppos car. I had the same DVR as in choppos car, in my car for about 2 months and 3 track meets without issues, skipping etc but the really hard suspension has caused issues and messed up choppos video. Chop is not happy and totally understandable.
I have sincerely aplogised to Choppo and will continue to investigate a way forward. As yet the ones I have sold to date have been fine and no issues but these have been street cars with street car suspension.
The one in my car I am testing now and have been testing for a month or so is CF card recording so full solid state and no HDD. This maybe a option but I will have to get one of the local blokes with rock hard suspension to test it.
I shall continue the testing
Very sorry choppo and if I knew the super hard suspension would cause this there is no way I would of sent it.

Just to sum up but I wont continue other than advise of the end result. I hope I can get some more testing arranged with some different mounts as there is options to try and fix this problem.
If i knew the suspention would cause that jumping of the HDD there is the Dirt-n-Fast Extreme which is full solid state, High speed SD card recording and designed for extreme impact and enviromnents. It is still 4 channel but the fps rate drops which can be worked around with camera placements. Choppos DVR was one I had here that I sent down to him for testing and some demo work so hopefully we can continue to work through it. Choppo had the StreetBox Extreme systems. It would of been the RaceVid Extreme but I was still and am still testing that. I just wish the bloody thin skipped on me and in my car so I could of seen this happen so I could of rectified it.
I hope I can continue to work with those who have are are assisting with the testing to get a system suitable for their needs.
Cheers

There is but they are very expensive. Not a practicle option as if you spend that sort of money you get a different DVR. $900 for a 32gb Solid state SATA drive. I will look through my suppliers tommorrow and see what they are worth. Maybe the solid state will be quicker to download too. Never tried it so not sure. If people want it can be easily done but raises the cost.

Bzzzt wrong. That is a expensive. Put it this way I can get them for about $160us my cost. Easy fix is to sell the race cars the solid state drives and street cars the normal drives. Solid state drives are just like a fancy and very high speed SD card in your cameras/video recorders.
We will see how it goes.
As for the RaceVid extreme I finally worked it all out. The RaceVid extreme used a high speed CF card so similar to a SD card and yes full solid state. Still have to get the GPS speed increased to 10 contacts per second for accurate lap timing. The speed and the Gforce is all good now and it is in full color. The downloading is only a tiny bit slower than normal speed. Where as the StreetBox is slow at about 1/5 the real time speed to download. The quality of the download at 1/5 the speed seems to be better though.
I will be quiet now. Any questions please let me know

A quick update, now ive calmed down :mummy:
Just offered to continue to work with Tony on this video system venture. All the State rounds are finished and with upcoming trackdays etc we have a little more room to move if not all goes well. If nothing else it was a good evaluation run being in the Chopmobile
So ive got a few suggestions we can work on for the next outing and get the bugs sorted out.
As an aside,
Q - why am i persisting with helping Tony after my mild dissapointment???
A. - because its the first time i have EVER seen a developer of a car based product on a Forum EVER come on and self admit to a problem. None of this 'hide it and know one will know' BS with Tony. I didn't threaten, demand nor post up a negative about what happened. Tony did that off his own bat with genuine sincerity and i reckon that speaks volumes about the guy - and someone i would like to continue to help out. Big thumbs up i think!
Look forward to producing some great video soon for all to enjoy.

Bit of a update on things as there has been some slow ups due to some more testing required and additional systems I have added in.
I am hoping thing go well for Choppo this weekend but I do have the proper RaceVid Extreme heading that was very soon which is more suited to that use but it was worth a try with the StreetBox Extreme.
I will have a big long speal and be done with it unless others have questions. There is plenty of changes and updates with additional systems too. Options for full solid state have been added.
There is some new names etc. I have changed it so 100 or 1000 means one camera system, 2000 means 2 cameras etc. Extreme still means the top of the range
A rundown of what systems are currently available but some are still in testing. I have not found a full on rally car or a off road buggy as yet so keen to fine one.
I have done up a couple of custom systems on special request by some companies so I just added them in too. Naturally there is some driver/compainy agreements there so not to go the invasion of privacy rules.
Naturally the cost will be extremly competative.
So the update on the systems are

Option to include all full IR super high res cameras. The DVR has the cabability to handle it
Option for additional or shorter camera cable lengths.
Option for bigger GB on HDD or spare
Option for 2 hour UPS (uninterapable power supply) backup or more hours if needed. Lots of people miss this step. First thing theives do is drop the power if they see a security warning label somewhere on the house. With a UPS and deceant night vision full IR cameras and DVR placement thieves are still on video clear as daytime even if they drop out the circuit breakers in pitch black etc.
Note the 2 main cameras would be supplied from the UPS so if required to have all 4 just select all 4 cameras to be wired and not wireless.
Note this systems is stand alone and not connectable to the internet to avoid virus and to avoid illegal wireless connections for people without anitivirus software. Install the DVR in a decreat location.
As you can see above there is DVR that are connectable to the internet so it is a easy swap if this is what people want

I an not used the off road driving either race track or 4wd stuff. Been too long since the old days of 4wd owning. Music was just on the radio so no idea.
This is the in car video set up for this weekend. THis system is all 4 cameras with 25fps each. Resolution is very high and the video quality is great. I have a bit of work to do with the sound as it is coming through too sensitive. I will have it sorted by this weekend.
All the cameras are color but atm a couple are in black and white so once out in the open the color will return.
Even got some V8 supercar under car brake and suspension video on its way. Looking forward to it. The system looks kinda big but it is out in the open a biut so I can show instand replay video to people where we are out there sunday. .

Some of the things you see. This is from the Car-n-Truck Blackbox 2000. It is a standard feacture on this DVR getting photos from videos.
I have it the clip on video but it was too quick so better getting a screenshot. It shows a good example of the real video quality without being downgraded from You tube.
I have a few more videos up on Youtube too so there might be some people have not seen. There will be some from Phillip Island road bikes in the next couple of days.

Can not half tell why mr chop was annoyed with the HDD skipping. I would be and I feel for him and rather pissed I and others missed the video. Awesome video and camera angles for the bits that did work.
It is all fixed now with a solid state HDD changed for race cars. We even found that the original HDD was not installed properly so it ended up being heaps worse than it should of been even with the normal drive. We live and learn. I have the HDD back up here now for some off season testing.
The sound came through pretty good.
This is a section of some of the better recording but it still skipped a little.

and finially a warm up lap. Chop advised that this start was a cracker but the old HDD spat the dummy on it.

Also I am trying to weigh up the odds of doing a waterproof mini helmet style camera. I would like people thoughts if you have a minute.
Brief rundown on eash option.
Camera 1
640x480 at 25fps. Waterproof to 3 meters. Good video, tough and quite small and light. Lithium rechargeable batteries. Standard full size bullet camera. Price about $160 or so

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/20091021105110133761.jpg
Camera 2
640x480 at 25fps. Water resistant but not water proof. Good video and offers a unique view. Quite small and light. Lithium rechargeable batteries. Limted to helmet use. About $160
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/MinihelmetDVR.jpg
Camera 3
640x480 at 25fps. Waterproof to 6 meters. Good video, both drop and shock resistant. Bit of size to it at 140x45mm and 150 gram. Lithium rechargeable batteries. Has a inbuilt viewing screen which is very cool and lots of colours available. Pretty expensive at $380 or so. Pretty unique too

As per above I have gone with camera 1 but still testing out camera 2 as some might like the idea like surfers, windsurfers, kite surfing, water sking and the like. i.e. places where helmets and hats are generally not used. I have done some testing but I dont do any of the above sports and dont know people who do. Happy to lend it to someone who does that sort of sport to get some testing for me. No cost. It is waterproof to 3 meters, lite and is comfortable to wear. I have a strap like a surfboard strap so if it comes off you dont loose it.
Couple of videos for a 125cc road bike at hidden valley and the SA race track.
Very wet track in SA

This was the first test of the mounting arrangement the bloke used. Not real successful due to the movement but a great angle. It is still worth watching as there is some good racing. Classic case of less power but better handleing. Amazing in the same class racing the bikes can have such big speed difference

Bit more feedback on camera 1 waterproof one. The sound is pretty quiet when it is in waterproof mode but still clear. If there is no need for waterproof use like inside a car etc the back cover can be left off to get very clear and loud sound.
Also with the mounts there is a strip of rubber you use to assist with vibration and noise against the like from vibration.

Couple more vids
This sis the streetbox 1000. (little silver one). It picked up the engine vibes and mucked up the video recording. Not an issue as a quick look on You tube everyone that attaches vids to 2 stroke choppers have the same or similar issue. A couple has some good mounts on the tail that seems to fix the problem. We have a plan though to fix this so we are going wireless. This is reduced heaps for a easy download so the original is much better
The site and views are where the new building will be. We never got high enough for to the top floor area but will next time. We had a GPS and a altimeter on board too

This is the new HD camera I just got in. I will be testing this over the coming weeks. Nice clear vid. It is full HD at 1920x1080 at 30fps or lower res at 60fps. Good thing this is HD recording and the camera is a separate box camera and the DVR is on a 1.5 meter lead. Pretty rare that fracture so easy mounting. Again priced quite well at well less than $500
This recording is at 60fps and not full HD as the HD files are huge. Again reduced quality for the download. Pretty boring I know but more coming soon

The updated StreetBox 1000 DVR are in.
720x572 res at 30fps. Better sound, better and bigger res video and better lens so more color. Also better price
$79 including express post freight and 2GB SD card. It also has a standby feature added and the mount is much more sturdy.
Just a small sample of the new quality of video. Next time I will speak but the sound is better than the original version.
You can blow the size up to full screen on your computer and it still remains quite clean video. I have some in stock too.

This is a bit of video of the new super HD DVR I just got in. Still working on the mic gain (quiet noise from the video) and some other things like cleaning the lens.
For now I am calling it the RaceVid HD. Pricing around $450-$480 if that. If I do large orders it will be more like $400 with standard mounts. Plenty of testing to come
The specifications.
It is a seperate box camera and a portable DVR.
4-5 hour battery life and up to 32 gb high speed SD card. (standard is 4gb)
120 degree widescreen viewing lens
It has a HDMI lead joining the DVR to camera to ensure it remains full HD.
It has HDMI out from the camera to play straight onto your plasma without any changes or loss of the full HD resolution. YOu can play direct to 50-60 inch plasmas at full HD DVR+ resolution and be clear as day. Simply plug and play.
One touch record at either the camera or at the DVR.
It is weatherproof both DVR and the camera (yes both).
Resolution is 1920x1080 at 30fps or several lower setting and up to 60 fps.
It can do full HD uploads to you tube too. Click on the links at the bottom of the video and play around with the extra options from a full HD upload. Some people with slower computers it might seem to flicker and can take awhile to upload if you choose full HD but with high speed computers it will be all good.
It is only just been releaced and I am one of the first to get testing done on it. No photos allowed as yet.
I am getting 4 brought in for trials and will be here mid week.

I realised I have not put picks up of this little DVR. Testing has been good but all street stuff so nothing of interest. I will have it in the GTS at the end of feb race meet with 4 cameras on board.
Just a bit about it
It is about 400 gramms so very small and light for a 4 channel DVR
CF card solid state recoding
Smaller than a hand
Has 25 fps per channel (total of 100fps) with a number of resolutions and recording speeds and settings
Comes standard with a 16GB SD card but can take bigger
Cameras will be 550tvl box and 560tvl bullet. Options for more or other types to suit the customer. Also will come with a 3.5 inch LCD and cables as needed.
Comes with a CD for downloading to watch the videos on computer. It can download all 4 channels at once with sound so much quicker than downloading via a HDD type. You then get a simple PIP program and make some crazy vids for You tube.
I am pretty well done with the range and ones that I will sell but need to reduce the gear and options to simplify the systems.
Not too far off and I will have the final list of items for sale and all the videos to back them up.

I've read most of this thread but understood very little  , I'm looking for a camera for incar footage at the drags that can be easily swapped between cars and can handle very high vibration and noise. It would have to be able to maintain good quality throughout a whole run in a top doorslammer as so the driver and crew chief could clearly see everything when watched back.
Here a video of the type of qaulity thats needed.

Do you have any cameras that do what i'm looking for.

Before Tony answers about his particular products I will give you some info on my experience with cameras in Doorslammers.
Only solid state recorders will survive. In my experience both SD card and CF card recorders are OK. The critical thing is the mounting system for the camera, I used alloy clamps to the rollcage/chassis initially, but moved to a Manfrotto vice clamp of late.
Tyre shake will destroy almost any viewable video for the duration of the shake, and often moves the camera mount.
I initially tried the all in one camera/recorder systems, Hero Cam style, but now use my POV camera system with the recorder part attached to the rollcage by the velcro straps. Has survived many shaking passes and almost always good clean video. Best to not have image stabiliser turned on if there is the option to defeat it.
Will let Tony tell you about his most suitable systems, but definitely go for a professional camera mounting system. I used those half round billet clamps like used to mount the fire extinguishers, air bottles etc in the cars......forget what they are called right now.

That was un expected. Bloody hell
In brief I would certainly like to get one set up for cars like that and more than happy to do a test with a DVR and camera. What is the turn around.
I would be happy to get the feedback to see how it all works and some video for my files.
Looking at the video this is what you may need
A seperate camera to DVR
Very good Camera mount to be on the roll cage. I have a mount than will not move, dam strong and still very easy to change the camera to another car. (small spanner does the trick)
A mount for the DVR that would have something like the infuel tank foam around it as support a little to go on the roll cage or somewhere you blokes think it should go. (fuel tank foam is good for flame proof and good for sucking up vibration)
I would like to try recording on SD card first and then direct internal memory as a back up option incase the vibration was that bad (which I doubt).
I presume you need a camera that works at night too.
That camera in the video above had a widescreen lens on that video but only downloaded/recorded in a standard image size so it looks a little squashed. I would get the right camera to DVR combo with camera and DVR matched. We could try a couple of options to see which is better
Cost would be about $400 or so for a special kit and duel memory DVR. As mentioned I would be happy to get one set up and if you could test and get some video for me that would be great.
Questions though.
What are the rules with weight of camera (cams have a unwritten rule about 100 gramms but not really inforced. Either way the camera is under that but DVR is a little over it)
Are you allowed Lithium batteries in the cars or do they have to be in some flame proof case or does the DVR have to run from the drag cars battery i.e. no internal battery.
All up it may add about 450 or so grams
Let me know and we can go from there
Thanks guys, i'll find out this weekend what ANDRA's rules are with camera weights and mountings.
This is one of the cars it would be used in, its just finished licencing and not yet contested a doorslammer round.

Looks great. I am quite suprised it worked that well considering how dark it was. Properly dark with head lights only in places. The little bugger has impressed me.
You will see the frame rate slowing down as that is due to the very dark. That is totally normal. You will see in the day it will go back to the 30fps and the smowish motion will go away.
Overall that is dam good considering it is not really desinged for night use but it has shown that it can. On a drag stip it will work great with all the extra lights so overall dam good. The date can be changed too. Check the CD as it has a file to add. Any problems let me know.
Thanks for the time to upload the vid too. Good little feacture having it now split into 5 minute videos.
I uploaded a video from the RaceVid HD DVR. Still only on the 820x480 at 60fps mode and only on photobucket so the res is down a fair bit. You can see the difference in the 60fps with the guard rail. A photo of the mount is below too. This is only temporay until the screw mount can be added to the camera head. Bloody good and stable mount. You can see the match 120 degree wide lens with the 19:8 res for widescreen. Everything is the right size and shape once you open up the video. The below is just a preview so not the right shape. The sound will be better soon as I am working on some adjustments. It is too quiet but works great with some revs up.

Things are progressing. I have two more 4 channel DVR to test over the coming 3 weeks and we will be in business. Just need the premium systems but very difficult to find and keep it in a reasonable budget. The DVR I will be using next race meet is over $1600usd and I have another that is about $800usd. Again way too much but it is very cool bits of kit. I doubt the real expensive one will be releaced as by the time you add 4 cameas, leads, solid state HDD it will be over $3k for the kit.
Details are below so if some have time I would like some feedback what you think or if it even worth looking into.
This is from my promo material so there might be some odd wording and it is not grammer checked etc

I will put one vid in the GTS thread as people may not check this one.
Some vids have been added
Couple of low res videos. Bigpond was just too slow to upload at full res but they are so much better on the originals.
The sound and quality has died off but still it is something to watch if you are bored
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRQKv9tFfK8
This was from a full HD DVR. File is reduced massively for ease of upload. The original was 6 minutes and 370meg. This is 2.5 minutes and 37meg to give you and idea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBt0WCyV_-0
Another one of interest but not the GTS. Commentary by the misses. Bloody drunks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2KzxuUwgc0
This was the 4 channel DVR that I have on now. It is only a screen saver straight from the computer so sorry about the no noise and the slow video and flicker. The noise and the frame rate is spot on in the original. Good kit and the video is pretty dam good. 4 cameras, 4 channel CF recording DVR with 25fps per channel for less than $1.2K is not that bad.

This is the AVI download of the same system. For the life of me I can not get the sound to come on the AVI download as yet but is it s great system if you dont care about You tube or internet uploads. They can be done but quality is not up to speed.

White the thread has poped up I will update on progress of a couple of the systems
I managed to get a near full HD upload from the RaceVid HD camera system I used at Hidden Valley last monday. The quality is pretty good. The manufacture has change the mounts and the sound now too so I will have the new version in the next week. I will need a volunteer to test them too. You tube link says it is still finishing processing so check tommorrow if you want for the best quality video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_gRfO6p7FY
This is the updated Car-n-Truck Blackbox 1000
Similar to the origina but the second camera is now free mounted for out the back video so it can be used a a reverse camera. Frame rate still 12fps per camera and 640x480 res each camera. The front camera can now be almost hidden behind the rear view mirrow and is now on suction cup so can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. It also comes with a 3.5 inch LCD screen. Same price at $380 plus gst and you get a 3.5 inch LCD too.
There is a option for a inbuilt car tracker system to so you get a DVR and a vehicle tracker all in one box. You get all the normal DVR feacture of driving history saved on the SD card like videos, GPS, Gforce, speed etc but you can also request photos, speed, location, the cars position etc via a mobile phone just like a normal tracker. Also has a SOS function which when pressed sends a SOS to all those on the list of mobile phones. Good all round bit of kit and parents with kids and cars. Around $750 but good value for what you get. I will get some photos up of the tracker model.

This is the other one. This was custom made 4 channel DVR to suit what I wanted so a very special bit of kit. The 4 channel gear I needed I just could not find so I had one made up hence the little cover on there.
It will record from one camera with audio like a normal one channel DVR right through to 4 cameras with 4 channel audio. Every camera is run seperatly so they can be all adjusted with frame rate, resolution size, color properties and much more. You can have one camera running at 720x572 at 30fps or all 4 running at 320 x 288 at 25fps per channel. There is a very cool playback system where you can have one large screen and 3 smaller PIP screens.
The avi download is custom made but as yet we are still working on it. Allot of time went into this so it should be a ripper for the race cars or what ever.
Very tiny and light with CF card recording so fully solid state and fanless. The whole system with 4 camers should not exceed 700 grams if that. The GPS equipment is in there but not sure if that will be included. It should be but depends on demand as so many people have other track GPS timing and speedo reading systems already.

That angle is not bad at all and the lens seems wide enough. It will work well once the mount is sorted. Good vibration test for the camera anyway and the DVR recorded all the bad vibes without an issue. It worked pretty well for night time too and the sound came through good once some reves got into it. Once you get a few videos with the driver etc for better video you can mount the camera to the front of the roll cage as this will stop the dark interior and brightish exterior effect it has on the cameras.
With the mount can you put the camera directly in the mount like the below photo. If you want it lower just add the extra bit of metal in I sent so that goes againt the cage. On the main hoop that should hold it pretty firm. From what I have found as long as it totally firm with the roll cage it will move with the car and the vibrations should not be an issue.
You do need the two bolts in the back of the mount between the two hoops so that the camera is totally tight otherwise some movement can occur. See the photo
Also about the lead I will see if I can find a new one and made it up for you so we dont have the back and forward wasted time with postage. I think I have a spare but need to look tonight. I will get back to you.

Couple of videos from the Updated Blackbox 1000 DVR
These are screen shots of the programs so low res and sound. The original videos are below too. It is very good bit of kit and all videos are recorded as seperate files so you dont need to have the PC program to download files. It has GPS, time and Gforce over lay on the video but I am arranging speed overlay very soon. THe GPS is quite accurate too and seems to point pretty well where the car is.
This has a car tracker option too so it all can in intergrated. As you can see the DVR it would not be much good as a official car theif tracker bug great security for kids, family members with a SOS function by pressing a butting and stacks more. There is a stack of feactures so any questions just ask.

And this is the You Tube DVR for those that want dead simple video uploading. Specifically designed for reviewing the videos direct from a HDSD card in straight forward AVI format. There is 2 or 4 camera options. All have GPS speed and time overlay on the video. Also has inputs for brake pedal and other inputs you want. The GPS is a 2hz so not too bad. I will try and do a 10 hz later on but just depends on demand
I will have some high quality video uploaded after the next race meet (testign 2 4 channel DVR so busy day). I am using the 4 channel version. The two channel has Picture in picture straight from the SD card and the 4 channel has all 4 videos in the one or all 4 videos seperate. Adobe Premier Elements will be included in the 4 channel for easy PIP video for you tube.
Again very small, light, has a remote control, 3.5 inch screen and 2 or 4 cameras.
2 channel with 2 cameras, GPS, 3.5 inch screen etc and accessories will be just on the $1000 mark. 4 channel, 4 cameras and accessories $1400 mark.

Spot on Dunc. The roll cage is the cause but since it is happening some testing to see if it can be reduced would be handly. If it does nothing so be it but if it does ruduce the vibration a little then the padding may help others with very minute vibration. May help now too. The padding has helped on a speedway car and also on a RC plane and chopper.
A alternative mount needs to be found so will have to do some trial and error
These three vids are all with the same mount.

This is Shanes ute run. THat is so fast. I think 9.8 at 151mph capable or couple be etter. Check out the speedo go from 0 to 250km/h is not time flat. Very cool.
The BBR 2000 with the high spec camera is pretty well sorted. The vibrations still occured so we will be upgrading the RaceVid 1000 with the same high spec shock proof camera. It has prooven that the flasher camera rids the vibration as it was on the same mount etc.
Great to know and thanks to Shane for the time put into testing them.
I could not get the camera on the RaceVid 1000 to vibrate like it but now we now and we can adjust the systems to handle what ever race use gets thrown at them.
There is more vids of other runs if you wish to go to my videos. The white look out the front windscreen is part of the dark back area/bright out the front. It depends on sun angle as to what you can see.
I am getting the RaceVid HD sent down next so with some full HD video will be great.

This is the latest little project. We were asked by a local trucking company to make up a rear view camera system that assists with connecting the second and third trailers at night. After a surprising difficult time to get the right antenna power and camera systems we found a way. Works through 3 trailers, totally portable, can be swapped from trailer to trailer within seconds, fully self sufficient with its own batteries etc.
They are wrapped with it and the results from their tests. Not bad priced considering the time it took to get right. Theya re ordering a whole bunch of the kits so must be ok.
The camera is wireless, waterproof and magnetic mounted. The reciever can be on mounted inside or outside on the trucks cab.
There isa 7 inch LCD, battery packs and other bits and pieces too
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/100_2055.jpg
The transmitter aerial is decent power with magnets for simple attachment. There is rare earth magnets for the camera and antenna so they dont fall off.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/100_2058.jpg
The receiver aerial is ridiculously powerful but it was needed to get enough power to get the distance through trainers as obstacles. Wireless systems dont like being blocked other than a wall or three. Try three trailers full of gear. Make a wall seem like a piece of paper. Either way it worked. Generally with these things once one company uses it others will follow. It is also used as a rear view system on the third trailer when required.

Not bad quality for the price. Does the job well. On a side note I found that if you put a blob of bluetack where the camera mounts to the stem it helps hold it under severe vibrtions. Tad rough but works.

They go up to 80 inch and in 3D but they are expensive at about $200+usd. THese were fair bit less than that.

I have a buyer for one but might keep or just lend the other one around to people on Trackchat for events or what ever. I have simplified the install down to about 20 minutes if that as all teh cables are simplified now.
Is there any partifular camera angles people would like to see, like under cars, side views, foot wells etc etc. Let me know your ideas or you tube links or photos of the view and I will see how i got mounting the camera to suit.
Next race is next sunday so if you can let me know before Thursday that would be cool. Hopefully it is not raining again.

I have also been looking into getting video back to the pits. I need to run it by the local motor racing club to make sure the transmitters dont interfear to their radios on the track days. If you need some advise on things let me know as I have done a bit or work on the wireless lately with a couple of customers wanting some custom set ups.
I have a system that will do 2500m line of sight and I have proven this with the right antennas by going for a drive along a straight road but the down side you put a building in the way or a small hill and it drops off or goes fuzzy. With the right transmitter and reciever antennas it can work well and I could get about 90% of Hidden Valley with back to the pits video.
This is the sytem I got bought in for the job and other jobs. It is completly self sufficent with its own power by external batteries and small 3.5 inch TV. I guess I could use the goggles to plug into the reciever too.
It is as powerful as you can use legally without licences.

While it is updated I have alse sent the web site plans off to a number of web site companies for quoting so not too long now.
It should come up pretty good and the layout will be easy to work and order the systems. I will always have stock within 7 days no matter what system as I have all the agreements in place with warranties etc. Just about all the systems are not off the shelf items and small or custom changes have been done to suit like different cameras, different on screen displays, resolution etc. All up they are desgned to achieve the best possible video for the budget people have. From $80 right through to $6500 full sattalite and video systems for professional truckers or mines.
I am looking forward to it. I will also finially have some full res video for people to see too and release some of the unseen videos.

Looks like the agreement I wanted to put in place can not be locked in as they want the camera to be a commercial item. Basically I can not be the sole supplier in Austraila. Such is life but pretty peaved after lots of work.
Atleast I buy direct from the people that make the HD camera I ama calling the RaceVid HD so there is no middleman. I can offer the best price by a fair margain.
So here is the RaceVid HD. You may start to see it pot up on other race car camera sites very soon my guess. I was first and did allot of the background work with the supplier to make this suit race car and in vehicle use instead on purly on person use it was originally designed for.
The camera head screws into a standard screw in mount like a bullet camera so that is a standard feacture now.
So if people want one they may be the new standard soon.
I will do a one off special price on launch for $500 delivered.
Orders will be with the others and to be in before 21 May. If you want them now it will be $550 due to the freight.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/100_2087.jpg
The clips on the back unscrew now so can go straight into a standard camera mount just like bullet cameras.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/HDDVRboxcamera.jpg
They also join togeather if you want to use it as a normal HD video camera to be more stable

This stuff is not part of the range but just a fun thing to trial
For those interested, the video glassess are very cool. Strange feeling and do take a bit to get used too. I played a bit of the playstation with the V8 supercars and it was good fun. After 10 minutes I had enough though as it is very intence having all the action and nothing else to look away too.
I am ordering in the 80 inch version with 3d view to see how they go. I think these will be totally cool
Also I put the wireless system in the Avalanche and the misses went for a blocky and I looked through the glasses and I tell you that was weird. Only got about 1km range but that was through houses etc so I hope at hidden valley it is better. Line of sight this kit aparently will go about 2.5 to 3km. I have sorted out the frequencies too with the track too so I can use it to get live video back to th pits for someone to look into the glasses and also they can look on the recorder screen. It has one way sound too. I do expect to loose signal in a couple of spots at HV due to the hills in the way
The kit is Totally self sufficent off its own batteries and has a 720x570 at 25fps recorder on the reciever end as well as the glasses. It is the most powerful wireless tramsmitter legally allowed to use in Australia at 4W transmission. The Reciever has a 25dbi high gain antenna.
I will have 2 x 4 channel DVR in the car (i.e. 8 cameras) running Sunday as well as a couple of others systems and the wireless system just to get some more video. I have some good ideas for camera spots including 2 or 3 under car shots, footwell etc. Looking forward to it. All up about 13 cameras I think. Not sure.

Anyone used these sort of glasses before. I ordered in a set for a bit of fun and were on special. Just sheer luck found them cheap. Nothing to do with the camera development but could be interesting playing back video from the 4 channels DVR at the track for visitores to look at.
They go up to 80 inch and in 3D but they are expensive at about $200+usd. These were fair bit less than that.
I will let people know how they go anyway.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/PortonB2B.jpg
I was showing people at the office these today and some ideas where you can use them came up.
You can watch porn in peace on a big screen TV without anyone knowing or caring. Have the sound as loud as you want. Play from you portable CD player or upload onto a SD card
In airplanes as you you can load up 2 movies onto a 8gb SD card and watch them in total peace. You can even watch them on take off and right through to landing instead of having to put the DVR player or laptop away. Load up a few SD cards and away you go
Same with in car DVD. No need for them anymore and each person can watch what ever DVD they want. Rent a cars etc. Totally easy
Using the Wii. You don't need a TV anymore and you just place the sensor out the front somewhere and away you go.
Great ideas them I thought so add to the list if people want as I would be keen to know. Once I have tested them I might sell a few sets on ebay to see how they go. Cost for the 40 inch version is about $195 usd plus freight and the 80 inch with 3d fracture is about $320. That si one offs as if you buy 10 or something it would be less and less freight. As mentioned I am ordering in the 80 inch version to see what that is like.

Sorry one more thing
This is the kit that a mate will be testing next week on his RC plane.
Mini transmitters with a Range is about 1.5km. He will be using the LCD glasses and another bloke with a second transmitter will be on standby in case he looses track of the plane
The wireless transmitters are very small and light. A very high quality 550tvl mini box camera will be used as the on board camera. The kit uses its own batteries so is fully self sufficient. A mini high power battery is on the plane.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/Wirelessminitransmitter1.jpg
The glasses
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/PortonB2B.jpg
Also a mini DVR with a 3.5 inch screen so he can record everything and the standby person with the second transmitter can see what is what incase teh plane goes down out of sight.
They are good fun these little side jobs.

I will have some of tomorrow racing up over the next couple of days too. I have some prette unique camera angles coming including three under car cameras.
I proberbly will be lapping on my own again but maybe one of the porshe GT3s get into it so I have someone around me. There is elfin clubman out there too so he should be lapping better times this weeks with the suspension changes. Dave with the VE clubbie can not make it as he was about 3 second slower with street tyres but is getting semislicks very soon. He should be getting a set of the BMW M5 18x9 soon with Yoko 050 tyres and these wheels fit over the big VE R8 brakes (90% sure but he is yet to test fit mine). 1.27 is a very good time on street tyres. He would be quicker than me with semislicks I would say.

Some of these vids are in the GTS thread too.
The new ones are here but of last round. It is the RaceVid Extreme 4 channel. The sound is now sorted in all 4 channels. Easy fix with a 4 into one connector.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hhQwPDYypk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syUfYDRFyQg
I will get some more 4 channel stuff up later soon of this round. The under car videos did not work as good as I hoped. Not enough view angle and the spoiler was in the way. The back one looking from the rear spoiler under car forwards worked ok but nothing to write home about. too dark causing it to go into IR mode loosing the color. A different camera would fix that
I have made some new mounts too. One type uses uses rare earth magnets and you can mount bullet cameras anywhere there is metal. Over 60kg of holding force. It would be good for events like powercuirse and skid pan days where they dont have CAMS or Drags rules about external cameras. 60kg of holding force to keep a 90gramm camera and 20 gram alloy plate in place. I think that would be enough to meet the 30g guide lines for CAMS anyway. I have not done the maths.

Theers is a couple of options so details are on the PM. I would say the BBR 2000 first and if it totally has to be a all on one then the BBR1000. Both proven to work under extreme vibration without loss of video quality. Most recommended would be the BBR 2000.

I have some updated and better photos of the complete RaceVid HD package. It is a great kit and ready to plug and play. Some of the best in car video there is. Actual DVD quality and not just saying it is. 4GB SDHC card all included. As mentioned TrackChat Special for $500 for the lot which is very cheap for what is included. It is this price until the drag day.

This is the design change I arranged. Others may say it was their idea but I drew up the changed design on autocad and sent it to the manufacture and they did the work. I have a copy to proove it and the proprietary notice for the design idea. Shame I could not lock the sales in for this region but such is life.

The case is watertight and drop/crush proof. The silver mount is one I made up for the Porsche cup cars.
In the standard kit I supply a strong suction cup mount and a roll cage mount similar to the below. (the round metal disk part is bent to suit the size of the roll cage and the edges lipped to hold the mount brackets in place. It is totally rock solid and it will not budge. You get the same level as the drivers helmet by lowering the mount.
If it is a street car it comes with a suction cup mount and a headrest mount (or what ever combination). The headrest is a sample of the final product but the one you get will be better (as per the different pipe clamps). Again it is all included.

I found a photo of the mount all finished. Like I said pretty solid. The camera mount part is fully adjustable so swivels 360 and also the tip is adjustable. Great for quick video changes of angle or front to back. Only change to the photo is the stem is soldered to the silver plate at the bottom to ensure a rock solid mount.

Can't wait to tryout the little streetbox 1000!
Should be there Monday or maybe Tuesday. It is a good little kit that and priced very well for what you get.
Might sound a little dodgy but if you are doing really sharp takeoffs get a bit of blue tack on the jointer mount on the camera end. It helps keep it in the one spot and also holds it tigher when lots of vibration is there. You have the updated model so you have to be giving it a fair bit of stick or rough roads to move the camera but if it comes up blue tacks the go. For $60 the quality and gear you get is pretty dam good value. Very nice entry to the in car camera world.
Of course as you want more defination, more cameras etc I have some very good options for later.
I am starting to get a few on sellers around the tracks so if people think they would be good at on selling the gear let me know and we can work somthing out. A on seller is how I managed to get a couple of cameras in the Porshce Cup cars. Even if it is one or two systems here and there I will definitially work something out for you.
Full warranty and all the rest. Only limitation is mechanical damage like damaged screens, smashed gear etc.

I am trying to get the video from the Porsche cup car but that may be difficult and properbly wont be able to post it anyway due to the licencing of broadcast. From the feedback it was as good as the TV professional cameras and they liked it having to replay the video straight to the big plasmas. I will see what i can do.
I have a demo system heading to alice for some off road buggy work. The one and only top of the range BBR Extreme is being rigged up in a Finke desert race buggy and it will be one amazing system (it better be for $3000+ worth of camera and GPS system but it is the best of everything in one). I am trying to get one of the bikes too but trying to get some contacts with people who want some video.
I have some video from Sajs ute
This is the RaceVid HD. BIG note: low low res as I had to run it thought media player to flip the video around so it has gone from HD to 640x480 and made the image look squashed and file drop from 120meg to 5meg. It is not too bad but again the old system and old mount. The new mount will fix all these shaking mouting issues (thankfully).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxXX29LtlSk
These are the RaceVid 1000. You can see the difference in the mounts. The low mount captures the bright light and can have a affect on the camera where as the video below it is away from the bright lights and is much better. Ideally the camera should be up the front near the windscreen but it does not really matter as long as people are happy.
The RaceVid HD this is not a issue due to the special lens so it wont white out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsdNxsoHJ1E
This one is missing sound due to a volume setting but all sorted now. Good helmet can view and picture quality.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-qD58W97-k
I have a RaceVid HD and 2 x BBR 1000s out on the speedway for Saturday night and same again for the australian titles next week. Properbly will be both damaged but the price you pay for good video. Last time a rock was traveling so fast it busted 6mm perspex protective cover and smashed right through the lens of the camera. People who do that sport can keep it. Bugger that. The other system was crushed from a roll over. If you are going to test them you might as well do it right I say.
Also I am racing this sunday and the final run of the RaceVid Extreme 4 channel DVR with the editing and playback program sorted. Plenty of Picture in picture kick but video coming. All 4 channels of video at 720x572 at 25fps. Only system around like it and all on SD card and .avi video so you can cut sick with editing programes without running into codec issues.
Plenty more coming from the CHE car and some top fuel. Great stuff.
I am fighting for the web site to be out in three weeks but the system are available through a few distrubuters now. I will list them soon. Of course trackchat members and friends buy direct

The gear is good stuff so it should be fine as long and nothing get crushed. I will track down the car numbers for you. When you are ready give me a yell and we can work out a kit to suit. That level of gear generally is custom cameras to suit what the driver wants to see. I think for starters he is having one camera on each suspenion to get that set right so he can see all 4 suspenion points working togeather on the one screen. All about as much traction on the ground as possible I believe.
Also I managed to get in touch with a bloke that knows the Aussie speedway champ in the top 400ci class so I should be catching up with him mid nbext week when he comes up here to get a camera put on his car. Here is some video from the Prosport car on slicks and dam quick. The mount was one I used on a speedway car and it worked great on that but not much good with the high reving engine (12500 i think). This was direct bolted to the cage so next time a bit of 1cm thick rubber will fix it.
It was recorded upside down as the mounting area was very limited. Still It will be some great video next time around. The system was the RaceVid HD but this reduced to 640x480 and edited to flip over.
Now I have see this I will do a couple of small mods to the other mounts to make them better.

Tony
What do you recommend I do to stop the wind noise when recording mate?
Placement depends on the level of wind noise. The speedway blokes I got the camera head wrapped in clear tape to put a buffer between the mic and open air this got rid of most of it. Just wrap it a couple of times around the back and the sides (leave the one press start button though). I have a special mount for external mounted camera for the speedway cars and it works pretty good. I will have a slightly modified version for open top race cars coming soon, to address the excess vibration but need to get a bit more track time. Not sure if it is practable for your use but here it is. The camera is wrapped in tape and the clear cover acts as a barrier and also stops stone chips and damage. The cover is off a security camera dome. The tape is not shown on this pic but you get the idea
If you have a pic of where it is let me know and I can try and help.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/HSVListy/100_2465.jpg
This is the video from a open top car with the above mount. The vibration is being addressed now and is the mount not the camera. There is no sign of wind noise at all. With the mount I made up for you it would be easy to put a clear cover over that too. Jaycar have them and you cut it up to suit. Dome mount camera dummies is what they are called. About $12
Hopefully the can work out the mount for the top fuel cars. As mentioned my testing involved smashing a metal pole around a post a dozen times to make sure it stayed put as i have no other way to test to a car like that level. It was not your camera on the end of it either but one of my old ones. It still recorded away fine and is out on a 400ci top speedway car tonight.

I have been doing plenty of looking into Heads up displays and come across this version. It links with the OBD2 so it can show RPM, speed or other OBD2 info in a HUD format. Could be handy but if it is usable for track/drag duties I am not sure. The OBD2 has a tyre pressure monitor option too which use small remote sensors that screw into your valve caps.
I also have been trialing a GPS based HUD for awhile which so far seems very good. Not a bad price either. I am selling a spare one on ebay.
There is also another item that is a interface that reads the OBD2 and overlays it on a existing DVR. It gets done after you download the DVR and simply put the data on top like with several other programs out there. It can be set to interface into other systems too. I am working with the Australian offshore power boats to come up with a 4 channel DVR with overlay and interface with their engines. Fun fun.
This is the pictures anyway. I have not tried it yet but looking at what it can do it could be a good thing

Pricing for Trackchat around $1500 depending what system be it street, race or off road use/buggy use which get waterproofing box and special camera covers.
There is one more system up from this and it has all 4 videos recording at 1280x1040 at 30fps. That uses a solid state HDD as SD cards can not write that fast with 4 channels. The video is awesome and the system is only a extra $200 above the SD card version. It is for the video quality people.

Cheers for that kyle. Glad it got sorted and shame about the timer. Matter of sortedin the settings and it will be all good. Thanks for sharing though.
I got some speedway video too. The mount let the video down as it was not put on right as I had planned for it to go but the other car with the same mount got it right and it came up great aparently. As yet I dont have a copy but hopefully soon. I am struggling to get the camera back so i dare say he likes it.

Hi guys, haven't posted here for a while....been real busy, sorry !
I have been doing some in car stuff myself, here's a video I did on the weekend. I have used a night vision camera with a solid mount linked in via a usb adapter. The next step is a boot mounted dvr which can be sought from ebay for about $99. I run this unit, an AVtech at home but can be used in the car with a stepup transformer to run full time whilst the car is running, etimated recording time of about 4 weeks full time with a 500gig hard drive. That should record for months in a car
Anyway, this is my 2 cents input !!!
It had to end at the bottle shop
Audio in car will be easy but the next step !!

HD video is great and the file sizes are great to match. That is why I rarely post original video but I like you idea of posting a link and doing a download so people can see the original. Good idea.
I am currently uploading the edit to vimeo :)
When I return later on i'll post a link :D

HOLY CRAP - Kyle that video is bloody awesome
Bloody good system you have Listy :bravo:
If you're wondering why it shakes so much the bracket is sitting on the ecu tray and has 3 washers between it and the tray, add 8000 jiggerwatts into the mix and the mount has done pretty well :D

Totally bloody awesome and worked a treat. I guess it the RaceVid HD can survive that and the pounding it took on the speedway the other night pretty safe bet it is a rugged bit of kit. Again much apreciated taking to time to post the full HD video. Fantasic to see original HD recordings
You can actually see the eyes on the driver opening way more after the run than before. That is waht you call a eye opener.
I will send you a PM about the other request. If others want in on a order send me a PM.

This was forward to me from James in the under 2L IP class from the supercars event last weekend. I still trying to get this one and other systems back so I can get the video up, edited etc but some blokes are doing it them selves. No idea why he put a music video over or the strange camera angle. The sounds just get mutted by the you tube people. Car engines screaming sounds better IMO.
Plenty of action but very quiet video. He sure was in the thick of it. Bit of panel damage and lights etc but still totally driveable. This is from a 1920x1080 HD StreetBox HD DVR so way reduced file size but still good video

The video above was not the StreetBox HD but the old version of the StreetBox 1000. Anyway a few short videos below.
I will get some editing done for picture in picture over the coming days and do the whole race at the IP event up here at Darwin supercars. I have a stack of video here so I will only do one race

BBR 1000 vid below. The sound is a bit funny at the start and quiet for the rest. This camera was strapped to a speedway car for a few months but still working fine. If the end cap was removed the sound would of been much better as with the end car on it is in waterproof mode.

Short vid of James car. THis is the old version of the StreetBox 1000 so as you can see the new version is a fair bit better.

Mini update from InCarDVR. Web site still is being made. Atleast it is progress but slow. I believe they will finish within the month.
This is another DVR I am selling now called BBR HD. I have finished testing finially as I was waiting on the updated system before anounceing the sale. It has been under testing by a few people over the last 3 months. Basically the same as the RaceVid HD but a bullet camera head. Camera mounting is the biggest limit as you basically have to use the mounts provided and it does not fit standard screw on mounts and is heavier camera head. It does work well for the right use and as good HD video quality as the RaceVid HD.
Me personally prefer the RaceVid HD as the mounts are easier, lighter camera and longer battery life. Totally up to the purchaser what they want and are the exact same price at $500 trackchat only price. Retail more like $650 give or take

Here is a little bit of PIP video using StreetBox and BBR systems. Not bad for $200 worth of DVR and a adobe program.

If anyone is interested in any please let me know as I have a another order for the BBR HD going ahead in about 1 week.
Looks great!

Be careful how often you try to stream live video, especially the 430-440 MHz beings. It used to be amateur radio band in Australia, but the area is currently less military, the very radio. I used to participate in amateur television broadcasts in the 80s, which is similar to what you are trying to do. My bandwidth at the time of about 3.5 MHz memory, and has been for the very low resolution 4x3 things.

The wireless systems on race tracks I have left that one to the TV. Although I did get it to work on a private practice day and it worked ok providing you use a powerful directional big antenna. Simply not worth the trouble for a small one or two crew arrangement.
On a side note I have a summery of all the current systems available including new stuff so if anyone want to see a copy please let me know your email and I will forward it on. It is only 5 meg so not too big.
Maybe even those that want to be distributes or think they could sell some for me and want to make a $ or two.

A suggestion for easy car to pits video streaming, and data too if you want, get modems for Telstra NextG phones, they can stream 7Mbps under ideal conditions and are used by quite a few "agencies" for streaming video.

Just to let people know that the BBR HD as above will soon be on the prefereed seller list so i wont be able to sell them publically. All current orders are fine so no problems and in the short term if people want them I can get them well priced.
If people want them at a good price let me know as soon as possible before the restrictions cut in. I can sell for $550 including everything like SD card, freight, etc. Roll cage mounts too for a tiny bit extra. They will retail for $800+ in base trim without any extras like SD cards, any special mounts etc through the dealers.
As mentioned I personally prefer the RaceVid HD and the revised all in one version of the RaceVid HD that has GPS track history but some like the bullet camere style so no problems.
I will get some photos up of the RaceVid HD GPS very soon. All the same but smaller, is all in one so no leads, fully IP67 waterproof and has GPS route tracking
That is publically or on the web site I can not sell the BBR HD.
Cheers
