Ok, thought it was time to start a build thread for my Ute Its not completed as I write this, but getting very close
Sonny did call me late last night, with the great news that the extension loom for the coil pack relocation that we had been waiting on had arrived, and she started for the first time.
So as I understand it, just a few mechanical items left to fit, Cats, exhaust tips, and then he can start the tuning over the next few days.
Would like to say a massive thanks to Sonny, Murat and all the team at Marrano's Enhancement, for their help over the last 6+ months of planning for my build, they are a great team and just as pedantic as myself, and the only company I would have to work on my Ute, as most people who now me understand how, erm how can it say, Anal I am with my Ute, planning everything to tenth degree, but that’s the way I am lol.
I will keep updating this thread until the build is done, and running
Ok little run down on the spec's of the engine & Ute

A cruise down to the drags sounds like a top idea, trying to get Scott to fly down for the day, he said he might even drive down (only 8 hour drive) he does love driving his ute (Another Sonny creation) but dont think he like any rubber on rear!

Cheers Sonny, I am really looking forward to the challenge of taming her! but think will leave where wrapped up when the weather looks like it could rain!
OK had a few phone calls last night from Dr Sonny after she had been on the rollers and she made 346 RWKW or 464 RWHP and 855 NM TQ.
I am not really a numbers man, more about how she goes! but am very happy with the power, but Amazed at the TQ.
Fingers crossed i should be picking her up in the next few days. And again a massive thanks to all the team at Marrano's

That's a really nice combo you've got there Lee to go with a stellar ride and the results/installation from Sonny are nothing short of what is to be expected from the man.......congratulations all round
Sounded tuff on the vid too and i bet your just hanging to drive it home and open her up now and again under the right circumstances of course ;) Just one thing i noticed in that vid was that the motor struggled a bit to kick over so you might be looking at a new battery soon mate........i'm only speaking from a recent experience with my ride
Enjoy it mate!

Hi Daz, not Surprised at all about the battery, i think its still the Original so its about 5 years old, so i am well over due for a new one :o but yeah am itching to get in her.
Am pleased it sounds tuff, that was one of the aims that i wanted Sonny to build it for, and to keep it NA as i love the sound of a tuff NA V8 :yep:

Look great and really clean. They do good work them blokes. That is a good life from a battery. 2 years max I get from mine in either car. One thing is that it is covered under warranty each time. The heat is the killer of them

Well what a machine! I picked her up on a wet Saturday morning (and yes I didn’t sleep very well the night before :bravo: ) Sonny asked me to have a look over the Ute and it was amazing at how very well done it was with regards to the fit and finish.
I couldn’t really test it out around the workshop as it was wet / damp and had some parts in the tray, but Sonny took me for a spin before I went back up the freeway, and well he scared the sh*t out of me, but pissed myself laughing at the same time with the thought this is my Ute
Yesterday was a nice day where I live and I could give a little play (within the road laws) and to put it bluntly I was amazed! there is no point in the rpm range that you can tell the power has come on, its just constant from 1500 rpm all the way to redline, and the induction sound with a lumpy cam and amazingly tuff exhaust note, I think you can tell am happy!
My old man had a drive in it and he had / has some fast cars & bikes, throughout his life and he was amazed how it went! But on the flip side it can be driven at 50 KPH around town. After a 30min drive around some nice twisty back roads I asked him what he thought, and he said "its like a feral kid drinking red cordial" so I think that’s was a good thing lol
Massive thanks to all the team at Marrano’s they have built me the Ute I always wanted. With the engine off and the bonnet closed it looks just a normal Ute, with the only thing giving away what lays beneath is the one more exhaust tip, big brakes behind the standard 18” wheels, and a lower stance.
I will post some more pic’s up later on in the week, after I come back from winter sun

Nice work Lee. That's a nasty bit of kit you have now.
A ferral kid on red cordial  what a great description.
I like the way you have kept it "stock" looking from the outside and the under hood work is outstanding.
Top job Marrano's.

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this, has anyone had it done? Or even better done it themself?
Traction is becoming a problem, as Dr Sonny said it would, and as my very truthful little brother pointed out over the weekend when he had a drive " am sure that my VE ute would be faster 0-100 then your VZ" and I think he might have a point, so I cannot have that! :up2sum: "his ute is a N/A 325 rwkw and 750+ NM, thanks Sonny"
I have found some wheels I like in 19" and can get them up to 11" wide with loads of offsets, so from that I will need to have a mini tub.
I found a few pic's “please see below" but just looking for some more information! All i know is there has been 100mm added to the tubs, and by the looks of the pic's all the rear i.e. springs dampers look like there is the standerd place!
I don’t mind doing most of the work myself, I am just not quite sure about different areas fouling on the wheels, springs damper etc.
Any help would be very helpful
Cheers

the washer and dome nuts are just S/S from a local hardware shop and polished, and the strut tops are standard GM polished with the dremal, did take long at all, may be 15 min's per side.
The catch can is a moroso billet item, from Crain Tech but there is a few different dealer in oz, hope this helps

If anything breaks driveline wise its almost always a shaft....id recommend taking a spare or two for anyone thats racing especially in a manual. Its a simple 30 minute swapout, no big drama. They're the weakest part of the driveline which isn't a bad thing as it's easily rectified
Having said that my old car with 150 plus runs on it never broke a driveline component (apart from gearboxes...development spec at 800+ hp.Does that count :p ) Auto though which doesn't shock the rear end nearly as much.

But i have seen other people brake most driveline components.
Some do some dont ,buggered if i know.
Glad the tyres are going to fit Lee, keen to see what it does down the 1/4.
Drop it hard off the line , it will take it.
Cheers

yeah went OK on the private road, to say that surface was not in drag strip condition.
1st was still a little wild, but from there 2nd and 3rd hook up well which is the first time that has happened since the new setup was done :bravo:

Them private roads can be a prick.
Try a few 2nd gear launches Lee , it should do it easy.

just thought i would post a little update with my new wheels i have just fitted. Now i always said i was never going to fit different wheels as i wanted a sleeper look ish, but after Marranos team dropped the new engine, in traction was a big problem.
anyway i put on the front 19x8.5 with 235/35/19 Yoki AD08, and on the rear 19x9.5 with 275/30/19 Yoki AD08.
had to do a little work to make them fit on the rear, but after changing the springs and rolling the gaurds within inch of thier life, all is well.
here is a few pic's

lol yeah i had no option but to lift it a little and add a stiffer spring, as when i did it before and it sat down on WOT the tyre and the gaurd became very close friends  and at the cost of them rear tyres i didnt wont that to happen all the time.

Ok all, a little update, new pic's to come very soon.
Had a few little body mods done to the ute, with some custom Aston Martin DB9 bonnet vents fitted, as i didnt wont anything to in your face on the bonnet, and smoothed all the holes at the same time under the bonnet.
Also had the holes from the badges filled in on the tail, and a new center infill plannel fitted for the number plate, to help balance the rear with the twin exhaust outlet
But better then all this, i got my first road bike before Xmas "will post some pic's when i get home" A KTM RC8 1198, what a animal how much fun are bikes! just need a Akrapovic pipe to let it sound like a V-twin :up2sum:

Thought i would post a update, of what been going off:
Had a photoshoot done a few weeks ago for a car mag which went very well, so all being well should be in the shops for June or July
And also just been getting the old girl ready for a trip up North to Toowoomba QLD up through the thunderbolts ways, so added some Cardom to the front 1/4 of the ute to help keep the stones/bug damage down, cannot say in how this product performs, but went on very well and dried to a good finish! will be able to add how it went after the trip.
Cheers

Ok, just got back from my 1,500K round trip, in every weather that could happen, including 3" of snow across the road at Guyra, and even managed 10.6 lt/100 at a av speed of 86.4 KPH over the round trip, so you got to be happy with that. Just need to give the old girl a good bath :buffer:
The Cardom looks like it has gone the job, but the truth will come after its been taken off and detailed.
