You tube has a Hi-Def option now ... the Ken Block video in the other thread, bottom right corner there is a button "watch this video in HD".
Heaps better ... I watched the Ken Block video on full screen and it was perfect.

the new blu-ray players have youtube now so you can watch it on tv.
it's not HD but i think HQ it actually doesn't look to bad.

Most of the "HQ" videos dont work on my wireless connection too well, but that one works fine for me too. My theory, 75% of that video is just static background (nothing changing), so there just isnt much the codecs/player needs to do, relative to most ofther videos.

Having uploaded a few ordinary quality videos, even when using after market codecs to "optimize for youtube", my research led me to the answer.
Sites like CNN, and other organisations that pay for the privelidge, get to upload high def content to you tube, with a much higher bitrate and size.
Ordinary users are limited to a 100meg file that can be uploaded ... those that pay to play (through big advertising deals etc), can put true high def content on.
Thats the nuts and bolts of it unfortunately.

HQ is now on all videos since they went through and re-encoded them all
You can now watch a version with less "compression" applied to it when you choose HQ - but its a bigger/slower download.
It only really works when you've uploaded a video in High Def format
This is one I put up was recorded in High Def. Looks great when you choose HQ

But this one recorded in Standard Definition, has no noticeable effect when hitting the HQ Button

But to your original query, those awesome quality videos are the result of $$$'s :)
EDIT: Just noticed there isn't even an HQ button on the second video when embedded. There is on the you tube site, but as said, has no effect when not recorded in HD

haha now i know one of the people who put up vids of garbage trucks on youtube, can i ask where the fascination of grabage trucks come from ?
is it similar to train/bird watching, you catalogue all the ones you see ?

Seedy..your are a genius!!!
Make a game of taking out the garbage for the young fella with his own toy bins, and in not time, 'hey presto' he graduates to the real thing. Brilliant!!!
Now all I have to do is find a shop that sells toy dog poo, toy toilet cleaner, toy work.....and I will be set.
On another note, Im wondering if the inability of your garbo to close the lids of the bins when he drops them is a human fault or technical fault. All our bins are placed back on the footpath with the lids closed. (Grabs video camera!!)
