Ricks driving was shocking. The officials will not hand the Championship to Craig no matter what the outcome is from their discussions. It was set up to be the best race of the year - better than Bathurst, and then Rick punts Lowndes off. Shame!!
If Holden are happy to win the Championship like that, so be it, but the fans know who the winner should be.

Ford fans will agree with you ...
Craig held the dirty line because he knew Rick was faster, Rick tapped him but Craig lost it on his own under brakes ... IMO it was a racing incident. It was a shame because I'm a big Lowndesy fan, but there was nothing malicious or aggressive about Rick's driving.
Well done Rick, whatever you may say he had the most points at the end of the year ... at 23 that's a top effort.
Here's a video of the incident
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB-evTsJjYE
To me, it seems like he may have had intent to do it on purpose, but it's pretty hard to call...
Have to wait for the result of the appeal from 888 race engineering managment :)

It is a real shame lowndes missed out on the championship win. Race 1 and 2 were really great but Tander was shocking with his blocking in race 2, he deserved that black flag. Race 3 was just dirty, a bad way to finish 2006 I think, but well done to Winterbottem on his first solo win!
Brockfan05
10-12-2006, 11:00 PM
Well I enjoyed the racing - was better than Bahrain anyway. I think the Lowndes/Kelly incident was just that - a racing incident. What blew it out of all proportion was the fact that they were both fighting for the championship.....
The Tander incident was definitely to help out Kelly, but if the tables were turned, do you think for one minute that Whincup wouldn't have dragged the chain under team orders....
That's a wrap for 2006!!!
Aeron
10-12-2006, 11:08 PM
If it was a racing incident then why did Rick get a drive thru?
Craig going off was a direct result of Rick punting him up the back.
Had that not happened the championship could have ended differently today.
Im not saying Rick wanted to hit Lowndes, but he did punt him off.
I've spoken to a few Holden fans and they described the championship win an "empty" and "hollow". I feel ripped off because we didn?t get to see the ripper of a race that was on offer.

Some of you may not like it but here's my take.
Ive watched every race this year and this type of incident has happened plenty of times. Little tap in the bum, leading car spins, tapper(new word) gets a drive thru penalty - end of story.
This has cost the leading car races/rounds in the past while the tapper still get points. Having the championship on the line is irrelevant.
If 888 appeal goes anywhere it makes a sham of the whole steward/judiciary process.
I feel sorry for Lowndes getting nailed in the front wheel by Davidson(?) but thats racing. If he had come thru unscathed he would have won the championship.

It is a shame that the season ended the way it did, but hey, thats racing.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but later in the race, Ingall did exactly the same thing on exactly the same corner to Skaiffe. Skaiffe got the wobbles for a bit but held it and wasn't punted by any other cars (they were on their own in that corner). No penalty for Russell and no mention of it at all.
Its hard to judge these guys without being in their shoes.
The whole series is becoming a bit of a joke really. The only ford and holden bits on those things are the badges.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to the 12 hour production car racing at Bathurst next year. Closer to real world stuff than these things.
Cheers,
Scott

The most disappointing thing about this whole season is that the champion only won one race, race 3 at Indy, no round wins nothing. So the history books will show this bloke as a dual Bathurst winner and a ATCC champ... Murphy dragged his arse home for the first and a point system that rewards mediocrity handed him the second...

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the 12 hour production car racing at Bathurst next year. Closer to real world stuff than these things.
Tell me more about this. It sounds great. Is it going to be like stock Clubsports V stock GT's with slicks or something?
I hope it will be like this. Just like race on Sunday, sell on Monday :driving:!

I just cant stand the bias from people, that goes for the supporters, officals, competitors, etc...
I am so over ford v holden in V8 supercars, its old, and it really show's how one eyed people really are, and its so obvious when you arnt biased either way :headbang:
The other bad one is sitting watching football, far out, talk about blinkers
rant = over :)
