View Full Version : Wrx Hatch
Hi all :)
As some will know, my previous Falcon was stolen and written off after two break in's within 2 days at my place... Long story that.
I had some sort of idea in the back of my mind telling me that i'd like to try a wrx...So I found a hatch that i liked and had a drive. Once I drove it i was hooked :D Does not have anywhere near the power of the falcon but it's about 600kg lighter and handles perfectly compared to the old boat, I see why these things are so damn popular!!!!
She's all stock for now but I have plans for a n exhaust (quiet one!), intercooler and intake upgrades, swaybar, front and rear pads and rotors and fluids. Maybe sticky rubber then off to wakefield!
Just a couple of photos...

Gday Kyle, looks good mate........but are you sure its 600kgs lighter than the XR6T? There seems to be a myth about these things being light....they are 1430kgs + .........my Typhoon is 1780kgs on the scales so there isnt 600kgs in it! :helmet:

Couldn't afford number plates back then mate ...
Haha nice motor there nick.. They're pretty cool things to get round in :)
Righto.. I bought a silicone intake pipe and fitted it up the week before last.. This pipe goes from the airflow meter to the turbo compressor inlet. The factory one is plastic, prone to cracking and freaking tiny. The silicone one is much better and gives you spooling at around 400rpm less than the original.
They are a right pain to fit up, they go under the inlet manifold.. You are meant to lift the manifold up to fit them but i forced myself not to do this and to take the hard way... Never again!
http://i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr96/VKInnovations/Radiators%20Silicone%20Products/H001.jpg
I'll take a photo of what it looks like fitted soon... You'll see why it's a PITA!
I also bought a turbo back enhaust and in-guard air intake for it off ebay too, quality brands not cheap china.. Pick them up this week and hopefully fit this week too..
I've put a deposit on an STI intercooler which i'll get in a couple of weeks
Then it's off for a tune in preperation for wakefield in december :)
Can't wait to try to chase dunc round the track! (Yep, not gonna happen haha)

Lucky for you the aftermarket world is your oyster, mine still being the new shape and not quite as popular the aftermarket parts are still fairly limited.
Im trying to talk the wife into coming down to wakefield but i dont think its going to happen.
Who are you looking at for your tuning? iv got the tuning software allready for mine but i still have to get the interface for the conection.
Choose carefully as from what iv read the ecutek software locks itself to your computer and can not be modified by anything or anyone else bar the original tuner.
Iv got the romraider software, it appears to be the other main tuning software option for wrx's and evo's.
What tuning software did you get and where can I get it???
Man the parts are so similar for your car it's not funny dude :) What are you planning for yours Tim?
Picked up a 3" turbo back echaust and in-guard cold air intake yesterday for the wags..
Going to attempt to fit it tonight with the aid of the brother..
Good times ahead :) DIY +1 +2 etc :D

DIY all the way, mate!!
I'm a big DIY fan ... I choose the mods myself, I drop the car off at Marrano's myself, I pick it up myself and I pay for it myself.
:D :stick:
Have fun Kyle ... there's definitely a sense of achievement in doing it yourself.

Looks good mate........Mitchells pass........good test track for the upgrades too!!!!!
done many a hot lap down there......lol.......
Righto..
Exhaust is done, CAI is the weekends job..
I'm going to paint a picture..
Horizontally opposed cylinders
Exhaust headers not matched length
3 inches from turbine outlet through to rear muffler
One muffler only at the rear
One cat on the midpipe
One wife who's 8.5 months pregnant
Kyle super f***ing dead :(
Emergency visit to Dale this week to get it quietened a lot
Damn the old exhaust must have been super restrictive though this thing has heaps of power now!

:lmao:
HAHAHAHAHA i like it......but only 1/2 a month to go......cant get away with it???????
Even if u need to push it out the driveway b4 u start it?
Nah dude normal term is 40wks so 6 to go :)
I'm gonna go see Dale at CHE and get him to chuck another muffler in there somewhere..
It's got a slot cut in the outlet of the muffler right where the tip welds up about 2 inches round the pipe.. Can't work out what that's about though!?!?
She hit the roof! Told me to take it off.. I told her to let me get it quietened first and we'll go from there :)

Yes Kyle, remove the exhaust completely just as she requested :)
I'll get it fixed up by dale and the boys.. if they can drop ~10db i'll be happy and i think she will be ok with that..
Still can't believe how much powah it's picked up though! The dump pipe is massive compared to the old system :D

Ah crack on Timmy :up2sum: , you don't need them anymore anyways, purpose served
Tim the top mount is good to around 260 wheel killowatts so for me i'll never really need it :)
And yeah, I already drive a wrx so that's enough cop bait for me :D
