Hey guys,

Just joined up after chatting to saj about this forum and thought I'd post up about my daily driven SV8. The basic run down of the mods are as follows:

2004 VY II SV8
Stock bottom end,
224/232 blower cam,
Patriot Performance Stage III LQ9 heads,
PWR 122 blower running 10psi,
Difillipo 1 3/4" 4 into 1 headers,
Difillipo twin 3" stainless exhaust,
Custom fuel system with Bosh 044 pump, 3.5ltr surge tank, adjustable regulator,
Dominator 4500rpm hi-stall,
4.11 gears,
Weld Draglites etc.

On Autotechniques dyno it made 378rwkw (507rwhp) which is a good effort as it's still running a stock TB at the moment. A couple of weeks ago I went out to Heathcote and on slicks I ran 10.96@130mph with a 1.64 second 60' time. I was very happy with this time being my first attempt on slicks with this car as it was running 11.11@130mph on drag radials. I'll be heading back out to the track later this month as I've found a few areas of my tune that were holding me back and should be able to go a few tenths and mph quicker. In the future I'd love to build a forged short motor and up the boost to 14psi as I've already got the pulleys for it. Below are a few video's of the 10 second passes I did back to back and a few pictures of the car for you to check out.

great effort on getting the 10 mate! car looks a treat as well!! what sort/size of tyres are you using at the track? have same size stall and diff gears , using street mt's im having traction issues atm.

Thanks for that mate, with the 235/60 M/T Drag radials I ran the 11.11 and I was running the 26x8.5" M/T slicks with the nankang front runners when it got the 10's.

I'm looking at heading back out in a few weeks as I've found a few areas that were holding me back so I should be able to improve it a few tenths and mph with the same setup. :)

Thought I'd post up some more info about the car as it's not just built for go seeing that it's my daily driver too. The stereo it's running sounds pretty good and consists of the following:

Alpine CDA-9886i Head Unit,
Soundstream LS.60C L.O.S - 6.5" Front Splits 130WRMS,
Soundstream SST6.9 Tarantula - 6x9" Rear Speakers 150WRMS,
Soundstream PCX4.540 Picasso 4 Channel Amp 4 x 80WRMS,
Soundstream LW1.800 Lil Wonder Mono Block Amp 800WRMS,
Soundstream T5-12 12" Subwoofer 900WRMS with ported sub box.

I've put a couple of pics below and you can also see my Boost and AFR gauges mounted in a HSV pod which fits in with the cars lines nicely. :)

Below is also the dyno sheet from the 378rwkw run so you can see the power and torque curves. This run was made on standard pump fuel with boost between 9-10psi, AFR's around 11.8:1.

It definitely doesn't have much bling going on under the bonnet but that's ok by me. That charger went pretty well for sure, much better than the civic or whatever it was in the 2nd video... lol

Welcome mate, thats one tuff daily youv'e got there. :)

I have a thing for tough daily drivers as my old SS ran into the 10's n/a and was still my daily. I'm hoping to drop further into the 10's next time out and have got future ideas thanks to yourself if I wanted to chase a better 60' time. ;)

It's definitely getting up there for a daily but once you hit the 10's you always think about what it would be like to run a 9... lol

I'm running the 4L60E which has been rebuilt and strengthened and hasn't missed a beat yet. With the 4.11's though I'm shifting into overdrive before the line so I'm going to play with that a little next time out as I know it's hurting my time and mph.

Thanks mate, when I give it a run next time I'll be leaving the 4.11's in there but just playing around with the shift points to hold 3rd longer which will hopefully hold it right to the line rather than shifting before the line.

Quick update, took it up to the Holden Drag Nationals on the weekend and ran 10.79@132mph on drag radials with a 1.66 60' time so there is still room for improvement. The only changes since last time out were a couple of tune changes that I did. It was good fun going up against trailered drag cars with open pipes etc and holding them off down the strip. :) Hopefully next time out I can get close to a mid 10 while still full weight on pump gas and only running around 10psi boost. Here are a couple of time slips from the weekend, I was running in the right lane.

Found a couple of pics from my car at the Holden Drag Nationals on Fullboost.

Man that exhaust is getting close to the ground...

Not a bad effort for a burnout.

Successfully smoked everyone out behind me.

One of my runs on slicks where the mph dropped a bit but not too bad as I was working on reaction times.

Thanks mate, it's going well but is still only getting 60' times in the 1.6's. I've talked to Saj about suspension setup so maybe one day if Calder Park re-opens so we have a good track I might play with the setup to try and get deep into the 1.5's which will net me a mid 10 for sure. :)

Don't quote me because I'll only believe it when I see it, but Calder is supposed to Open for a street meet on Friday 6th Nov and then again the first Friday in Dec (4th IIRC) and as you probably well know from driving both tracks Calder is definitely more conducive to decent 60 footers not to mention the usually far better atmospherics. As handy and good as having Heathcote is, I much prefer racing at Calder, plus its closer when I lived in Vic.

BTW - Nice setup, it is coming along very nicely, job well done :)

What's stopping you from running decent times at the moment?

Thanks mate, I heard rumors about Calder Park re-opening so that would be good to see. Most people say they can run 1-2 tenths better at Calder which would be good if I did. The only issue is that I would get kicked out after 1 run as I don't have a harness or cage to be able to run 10's consistently there. ;)

No slicks and front runners and it needs an auto to get the most out of it.

Fair enough, a stalled auto makes it so much easier than trying to pedal 500rwhp+ down the 1/4... ;)

Thanks mate, it's hooking up pretty well. I am only just stalling it a little to pre-load the driveline, so only like 1500rpms max and let it flash stall from there.
