IMO Box trailer= yes
Car Trailer + car= no

With beefing the suspension and brakes could they do the job?

If you are just using it for your gemini with a new light weight car trailer you may be ok, but I would be inclined to get something heavier and sturdier - maybe the crewman or cross8??

There is nothing worse then having a car trailer swaying and pushing the tow car about - which can be more impacted by the trailer than the car

Matt, the standard clutch in these is a real bitch as soon as you try and maneuver the trailer it will probably give way and slip to all hell. I have heard the auto's with a big tranny cooler work wonders.

I towed 2600kg with the adventra no probs at all but its not something i want to do all the time. The Auto has a higher tow rating than the manual (2100kg vs 1600kg) so be careful of the limits, you dont want to end up with no insurance and 2 written off cars due to overloading. In a M6 the clutch will need to be upgraded if your towing at the limits.

I just bought a 80 series cruiser for $5k that im dropping a LS1 into (and blower) for towing duties :D

'The only thing you will have to watch with the 80 series Voodoo is the tow ball weight.

Off memory I think the early 80s (1990 to 1995 models) were only around 120 kg (2500kg rated), where as a new 200 series for example is 350kg (3500kg rated) and the GQ patrol was 200kg.

The later 80s (built after October 96) may have been increased to 140 kg ?? (3500kg rated), but there were a few towbar ratings eg:2500kg, 2800kg and the 3500kg.

You might have to check these as I am only going off memory.

Mine towed a dual axle caravan without an issue before i pissed off the towbar :D If you can compromise auto will be much easier.

Bit hard on the poor brakes though :p

An auto will do the job much better, but if you do go 6sp, you'll almost certainly need a clutch after the first trip. Also, dropping in a 3.7 or 3.9 diff will give you 6 usable gears and also make life a lot easier for the clutch.
Another factor is that if you are towing a bit of weight it will tend to chop out the rear tyres unless you get a camber kit and a careful alignment....ooops...I forgot that's your game....;) Oh well - you understand then...

I'm very close to buying an XR6 turbo (auto). Opted out of the v8 purely based on fuel consumption for daily duties.

What happened to the Jeep man?

Does the xr6 turbo use that much less fuel than a n/a v8 if so then how much less?

Good choice with regard to the 'auto' part though.

Really liked the jeep, especially turbo diesel. Took too long to decide (2 days) and it sold. Probably a blessing in disguise, almost everyone I spoke to said be prepared for big costs.

With regards to fuel consumption on the XR6T, I relied on mate with a BA XR8 and he definately pointed to the 6. Not just better economy daily (off boost) but easier to power up.

Should be signing the papers in a few hours.

I picked up a 07 Mazda BT50 turbo diesel with a 2250kg rated towing capacity, great little ute, and plenty strong enough for towing.

I just bought myself a new TD auto colorado for towing duties.

For the price I couldnt knock it back.

I looked at the other utes around and it was really only the BT50, the colorado / dmax or the navara with the 3 tonne capacity I needed. (wanted a ute)

For the price of a second hand BT50 or navara I walked away with the new td auto colorado. :) Now i have to wait for it to turn up. :(
