For many years now I have been trying to source a Jim Beam or Jack Daniels wine barrell as a table/showpiece. You see them in many hotels/pubs and quite frankly they are next to impossible to get your hands on.
My Bro in law is a graphic reproducer and I was tempted to get a plain wine barrell and have him weave some magic and get the label transferred onto it, but me being the law abiding (copyright) citizen I never went ahead with it. I have seen a few on ebay, but they go for a bomb.
Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I went into the local bottle o to pick up a bottle of Jim Beams finest. However, my eye was caught by some brochures advertising a competition being run by Jack Daniels with the lucky customer winning a limited edition original Jack Daniels bourbon barrell. So I paid the extra for Mr JAck and put an entry in, and you guessed it, I got the phone call today. To say I am chuffed is an understatement. Its funny when you want something and then you win something better than what you want.
Now all I need to do is get a ticket in an AC Cobra lottery...
Pics to follow when I pick it up.
Awesome mate!!! Congrats. Some would say its good karma you got for not breaking the law

A bit more about the barrel. All of the Jim Beam/JD barrells you see in the pubs are mass produced barrels with no history and have the signage put on them. This barrel was orginally used at the distillery and has a serial number a metal plate you can see in the photo.
And it smells great!!!

I use these barrels when making my home brew bourbon. You can buy them at the home brew shop. Except they come in a bag and have been put through a chipper. When a barrel reaches its used by date and decommissioned, the ones that dont survive and escape to Sled's house are chipped and sold to people like me. Soak them for 6 weeks in white spirit (moonshine) for about 6 weeks and you'll extract the years of flavour from the wood. Turns out very close to the real thing... :drinking:
Haven't been using the chips for long, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. The good thing is if you stuff it up, or do not like the flavour, you can pop it back in the still next batch and reclaim the alcohol back. :D

The truth be known, they are actually a gift for one of our band members. I play guitar. I do have ownership of them for some months though before said birthday. I am learning...and the kids love them!!
