TRACKCHAT.COM.AU have booked Wakefield Park Circuit for Monday December 14. It will be a relaxed PRIVATE day with the option to participate in a fun event between 12pm and 1pm (details below). The cost of the day is $175 for each driver, we are asking for a $75 deposit now to secure your spot. However you may pay the entire amount now if you wish:

Account Name -TrackChatcomau-
BSB -082201-
Account No. -870675634-
Bank -National Australia Bank-

Please send your forum name as reference for deposits.

The optional event will be...

DIAL YOUR OWN (DYO) TIME ATTACK! - PRIZES FOR 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD PLACE

Between 12pm and 1pm, we'll be running an *optional* competition where anyone can enter (and more importantly) ANYONE can win... The idea of the competition is to DIAL IN A TARGET LAP TIME time for you and your car. Each driver will be given a "one shot" opportunity to run as close to their DYO time as possible. The format will consist of one warm up lap, one DYO TIME ATTACK LAP, and a cool down lap. Times will be recorded by a single timekeeper. Drivers running QUICKER than their nominated lap time are deemed to have "broken out" and are eliminated! However those THREE drivers running times closest to their nominated lap times (without breaking out) are deemed the winners. Winners will be announced on the forum that evening. Prizes will be announced shortly!

Given the event is on a Monday we'll have the option of spending the Sunday evening in Goulburn, for a meal and a drink (or two). Someone please post a link to the hotel we're all supposed to stay at! It's sure to be a fun social night out :)

So check the date, and add your name if you intend to sign up for the day. Pay your deposit to secure your spot ASAP. Cheers guys!

We usually have natsoft timing.. And for the comps to run properly you kinda need it...

Dunc, got some question in regards to the event.

We are aiming for 35 to 40 cars. Last time we had 30 and the track was empty after lunch, under utilised. So i think we can go a little higher in numbers. 40 absolute maximum though. However we may only get 25 to 30 sign up!

We also had timing last time (through LD timing) and it was an unmitigated PITA. We had an arrangement where passengers were allowed on the day EXCEPT when the timing was on :( So we had to arrange a time where timing was turned off for periods. Plus all the admin and organisation with dorians etc. So at this stage, i dont think we need timing. I am open to changing this though, if a lot of people actually want it.

Kyle

So if I want to partake in the timed events i really need to get my own timing sys Dunc?
Might see if i can borrow a mates performancebox...

For the timed hotlap we will have someone doing manual timing. Otherwise it will be just too hard.

Performance box quick to reset after a lap dunc? Pretty easy to plant it to the windscreen :)

Benson
08-10-2009, 10:56 PM
So at the moment, its basically just a non-timed event?

I would think other members would like timing?

Correct, intended as a casual private day. Most people who care about times have lap timers anyway. It's not really a competition format, but if it's important to the many we can arrange timing.

Pretty easy for one or two, but doing this for 30 people is going to double or tripple the time it takes for the hotlaps. It's only a bit of fun and nothing serious, just like at skid pand/motorkhana days where events are hand timed. And FWIW supersprints were all hand timed up until last season too, sounds dodgy but it's not that bad really.

A couple of points to clarify:

1. We CAN run passengers on this day. Passengers do NOT need to be paid up drivers, however they need to sign an indemnity form and be over 16 years of age. So... bring along some friends/relos for some hot laps! Anyone want to ride shotgun for some 1:05 laps in the R35?

2. You do NOT need a valid road license. However you do need a cams or wakefield license

3. We can't run around the track backwards (i mean anti-clockwise) it's in the rules, sorry Timmy.

4. have you booked your accom. at Trappers?

5. I need a volunteer to be the track marshall for the day. Responsibilities include making sure all driivers have a wrist band, red flagging the session if there is an accident, and possibly calling for the tow truck (you will be given a radio).

If you are interested in being the marhsall for this day pls send me a PM.

Im due to head home next tuesday but that may be without my ute.
if im a no show TC can keep my deposit but i have allready booked and payed for a room at the crystal inn with most of the others going, if anyone wants this room please let me know.

Well i found out today that my radiator is stuffed beyond repair, HPF are trying to get a new core from PWR to rebuild it, they say once they get the core they should be able to get the radiator rebuilt straight away so hopefully that happens.
Joel(sprjenkins) dropped off my slicks to me last night as i was packing up for the night at the hockey which was very nice of him(top bloke).
So if i manage to get my ute running and home on tuesday there is still a chance i may make it but only if that all comes good and i manage to throw another diff in as there is no point going with the stuffed lsd that i have been putting up since the last few days.
Fingers crossed ok.

Well, after a lot of cursing, quite a few dollars spent & hours under the car, the coilovers are back in, as are the rear Konis. Getting the FE2 springs out was put in the too-hard-basket without a spring compressor. But at least some progress has been made. Ran out of willpower to keep going. Car going to Russo's early this week for a couple of things, so the to-do list is getting shorter. Have to find time to get a wheel alignment too. So many things, so little time :headbang:.

Hi guys, just some info for the day here:

DAY FORMAT:

• Wakefield Park Gates open 8am
• Initially park you car in a garage and proceed to main office to sign on
• Any passengers must sign on as well
• We aim to have the track open all day starting from about 9:30am
• Our marshall will be checking drivers and passengers have wrist bands
• We will stop at 12:30pm for the OPTIONAL "DYO Shootout" with PRIZES (details below)
• The canteen will be open all day
• Track surface closes 4pm
• All must vacate Wakefield Park by 5pm

PLEASE READ THE WAKEFIELD PARK DRIVERS BRIEFING AND SAFETY NOTES (http://wakefieldpark.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=46)

Now the fun bit....

Dial Your Own SHOOTOUT!

Here's you chance to win a prize, everyone has a good chance to win, all you need is consistency!!

The idea is to nominate a TARGET LAP TIME for you in your car, and drive as close to that time as possible, WITHOUT driving any faster.

Those three drivers running the closest to the their nominated times will win a prize (see below).

The track will be closed for this event over the lunch break, from 12:30pm.

Points of note/rules:

• This event is OPTIONAL
• Everyone will be watching {presssure!}
• All participants to nominate a time before the event begins
• Lap timers ARE permitted however anyone clearly slowing at finish line will be disqualified
• Drivers get one out lap, one hot lap, and one in-lap (cool down)
• One participant on the lap at a time, marshall to control
• All laps are timed by hand (installing lap timers in every car is just too difficult)
• Drivers who run faster than their nominated time are disqualified
• Those three drivers running closest to the nominated time (on their hotlap) are the prize winners
• TC founding members can participate but are not eligble for prizes

SHOOTPUT PRIZES!!

The DYO SHOOTOUT winner gets FIRST CHOICE from the prize pool:

• 30% DISCOUNT off suspension job at Wholesale Suspension!! (donated by WSP) or
• $200 voucher for a Dans detail (kindly donated by Dan) or
• A StreetBox 2000 in-car camera system from Listy

Second place gets the next choice, with third place receiving the remaining prize.

Goodluck!!

We still have a couple of spots open for the day, so get on board dammit!

OK, without a car to drive, ill try to get down there Sun night and generally have a ball and help out on Monday with Admin/ Organising (if the organisers need help let me know??).

AN OFFER TO ANY NEWBEE's!!!! Or others alike.
If anyone would like a few 'tips' on how to go around WP reasonably quickly im more than happy to help out. Im not a leading driving instructor by any means, AND im not the worlds expert on WP but i have driven a 600hp IPRA VY Commodore around WP more than several times in anger to end up 2nd in the NSW State Championship 2009 (had to put that in :moon: Bop). So you could do worse (and i suppose you could do better too :lmao: ).

So PLEASE feel free to come up to me (or ask Dunc/Scott/Nick/ EriK etc etc who i am) for a hand. Im more than happy to help out. Anything, tyre pressures, lines.... whatever...

MOST IMPORTANT - im not offering this so i can 'go for a spin in your car', nor to try to do a sub 1.10sec lap in your car - nor burnouts for that matter. Believe me ive had 'Professionals' try and do this in my race car and i know the feeling. It's a reasonably paced lap or two - you get back in and go for it for as long as you want. No stress, no hard laps, just give you a bit of direction. Come back and do it again.

P.S. The smart 'heavy weight' car drivers (read Commodore) should jump on this as the first thing that will go is the brakes and you will be finished by 1pm. Ill show you how to go around 'quickly' (not sub 10's) ALL DAY without killing the car.

The offer is there....

P.S. Dan, for you, forget the above, im dying to give Greg's ute a go where the above goes out the window;) !!!

P.S.S. Scotty - bugger it, i decided to post it up anyway LOL

Great Weather, Great People and Great day!

Open Track and the One lap shootout was the WINNER

I guess the only downside is not knowing what lap times everyone else was doing on the day.

Overall a very well organised day. Big thanks to the organisers

We were in the Blue EVO 7 today. Managed to hit a new PB 1:09.1 (oh so close to the 8's) on Street tyres :hero: (previous pb 1:10.4)

Lets see some lap times from the others on here

Well what a great track day with lots of new PB's. Weather forecast was looking potentially 'iffy' but we got away with it, what a stunning day :) It was great to share the track with a fantastic bunch of guys and gals and it was awesone seeing everyone having a red hot go.

The hotlap event didn't take too long at all, thanks to Gez, Marek, Benny and Scotty for helping out with that.

WINNERS OF THE DYO HOTLAP ARE:

1st Roger - dialed in 1:09.90 and ran 1:10.15
2nd Jimmy - dialed in 1:10.00 and ran 1:10.43
3rd Marek - dialed in 1:04.20 and ran 1:04.85

Roger wants the camera system, so Jimmy needs to select form the $200 Dans Detail or the 30% Wholesale Suspension discount (Benny perhaps ask if he doesnt check the forums) let us know. Marek gets the remaining prize.

I had a deal whereby if i ran a 1.03.x i would do a nuddie run around the track (didnt think it was remotely possible!) fortunately (for all in attendance) i ran a 1:04.00. I am fucking stoked.. but not quick enough for Marek running as 1:03.79 though!! Well done Marek, i am coming after you for round one in 2010 man.

Cheers guys and thanks for supporting another TC event.

Like others have said... What a good day.

Well organised Dunc...

Thanks to everyone for playing in the spirit of the day... to ensure all had a good day.

It was great to see we lived up to our 'Any Car' slogan.

I managed a PB which from memory was a 1:11.1 (I have yet to check the Drift Box). I may have stuffed a tyre trying to get the 10.

I think there is still more once we spend more time on the suspension settings and of course driver settings.

Choppo, I ensured you weren't missed by having 3 dusty offs... I think it will take me months to get the dirt out of the car.

Good to meet new faces, and lets do it again soon.

Scotty

PS Thanks to those who hung around while I packed up so we could cruise back together. Much appreciated.

I had a great day guys, I had a lot of unforgettable moments, being passed by 2 R35s playing cat and mouse,
Being passed again by two R35s and seeing them blitz the main straight. Seeing a red lancer TME dance across the track surface at the top of the track and getting to drive my favorite car for a few laps.(Thanks Steve!)

Unfortunately my day was ended at 11am when i had a car right up my ass at the top of the track, i pulled to the side to let him overtake which put my left side wheels into a massive ditch and then a concrete ripple strip. that resulted in a blow out and 2 bent wheels. just remember guys that not everyone is as experienced as you may be and its very scary to have a car tailgating you on a racetrack. you feel like you cant brake hard because if the other guy doesnt brake as hard as you or isnt paying attention he will run right into you. i know that maybe you think you car can stop on a dime, but if your brakes fail, I dont want to suffer because of your agressive driving.

Sorry to hear that mate ... that stuff shouldn't happen, ever.

I guess one thing is that if you sit back you may not be able to get past when the opportunity presents, that's why the faster cars will sit close ... best advice is to never move off line. If someone is behind you just wait for a straight and ease off, but keep the racing line and let them make the move around you. You should never have to get out of someones way, they should always have to go around you.

Sarah said she was giggling when you two went past her in the ute.....just because of how fast and how noisy they are when they fly past....

Sorry to hear about your off Richard. Nick is exactly right. I don’t know if the track marshall mentioned it; but the general rule of thumb is always hold your line. Most times when this sort of thing happens it is related to people trying to maneuver out of the way (from faster traffic). But there is no way anyone can predict which direction you will go (to get out of the way) so it's generally better to just hold your line. The onus is always on the person doing the overtaking (to do it in a safe manner, at the right moment). It can be intimidating though. Perhaps next time we should split into faster/slower sessions, but it will depend on who shows up and we'll need to get everyone to nominate their approx. times. I hope you can get the car back together without too much dramas.

It is however a good reason to always have a walk around the track first so that you can see all these hidden traps.
Also, any slower car should really just keep an eye on the mirrors and try to indicate (by pointing with your hand) to the passing car, which side you want to be passed on, and then you don't have to run off the track to stay clear - just keep out of the way a bit but holding your normal line. It is always the overtaking car's job to pass safely.

I was in the Purple vy ss. Had a great time apart from having my harmonic balancer bolt come off half way through the day, and some engine/brake over heating issues. Thanks to those who helped out with the Bolt, took a while to figure out where it came from but we got it back in.

Was great catching up with some old & new faces. As mentioned by others, kudos to Duncan was organising the day. Well run & the hot lap shoot-out was great fun, even though I f*cked up & had an off, bloody cold tyres  .

Thanks to John H (V-Sport) for the slicks... without them I would not have been able to go. And our resident track marshall, Big Gez, who did a top job looking after all us racers .

Had a really fun day. Don't think it was super-quick (timer worked when it felt like it), but when it did, best was 1:09.1, & a 4th gear lap of 1:09.98 (sorry Scotty, couldn't replicate with you in the car ). Always good to be able to drive home after flogging your car :yep:.

Thankyou for a great day out. Great people, excellent feel about the day with no real set sessions and driving with some fantastic cars and drivers.
Well done to the Escort who managed a 1.10!
And the GTR's, just amazing. The Supercars which ran in the Wakefield Park 300 in 2007 were only 1 second quicker in qualifying!
The RX7 sounded sick. lol
Plus the Commadore wagon with 600hp atw! crazy and entertaining.

Its the first time in 12months since I have driven at Wakefield and the first time I have really opened up the MR2 which I have just built. I didnt have timing, but did have a few laps on video from early in the day where it managed a 1.10. There is plenty in the car with the biggest restriction being the nut behind the wheel who is also trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the set up.

Dave

Dave, apart from the colour...

Both have aftermarket tunes (same tune).
Both have the same WSP upper front control arm mod
Both have a aftermarket mid-pipe

However we run different pads (Marek is running endless mx72's and I am running carobrexh xp12's) and Marek was running the Dunlop slicks whereas I was running the Michelins. From where I was sitting I thought Mareks car was a bit steadier. I had a quick drive of it and I thought the dunlops were better as well (that's my excuse and I am sticking to it).
