Well, I have finally done it. Left the car with Justin & Christian whilst I was o/s for the last 3 weeks for them to "tinker". The only input i gave was that it had to be good for circuit work & left the rest to them, following in the steps of Duncan. Just picked it up... so far sporting 224/228 112lsa 568 lift cam, of Russo choice. Duncan & I will be having a go at tuning this one ourselves (Maroubra speed-shop ;)), as there will be a few more mods coming in a relatively short time-frame. At the moment, we've just flashed in a temporary tune to get me around until more time can be spent on the car. But even with this tune, car feels much stronger right through the rev range.
Russo Performance heads will go on early in the new year, followed by 1 3/4 4>1 DiFillipo's & lastly something a little different for the intake. Hoping to quantify all mods individually (dyno) so we can see where the gains are. Will be interesting to see how my current 1 5/8 Wildcat tri-y's go with head/cam, as everything you read says that they just cant flow enough. We'll soon see.
Again, first class service from the boys at Russo Performance  . Highly recommended to one & all .
Bolt-on be gone!!

Nice work Erik, very impressive choice you wont the car once you guys are fininshed with it. BTW - nothing wrong with tuning H/C combos yourself.
What a weapon you'll have on your hands with that combo - me thinks you wont be getting low 8s on your long trips anymore pfft who cares H/C nuff said.
Anyways congrats and enjoy the new lease on life for the SS - probably run a 9 now LOL.
Cheers

Congrats Erik ... that sounds quite like a package the Russo boys have put together for you. Can't wait to see / hear how it goes, good luck with the tune.

Agreed
Good stuff E (wont risk spelling it wrong)
Great stuff on the post mod Dyno per mod, thats awesome and will provide some valuable info to LS1 owners here at TC.
Look forward to getting a lap or two with you at Wakey. Oh and now with these new mods you need to do a 1.16 in 5th gear :whip:
Troy :)
SO.... Mr "11 second M6 bolt-ons don't need a cam pffftt" is finally going aftermarket engine bits eh?
Hows the tuning coming along Mitta E?
P.S. Maybe you should sell the stocker cam on ebay "11 second LS1 camshaft"

Congrats .... UM well everyone is calling you E so I am gunna go with K ... NOT C !!!!!! (hehe) :stick:
Welcome to CAM world. Nice figures indeed and with more to come. Better add a cage to your list of "must get" parts K. I shall follow the evolution of NSW 1st 11sec cop car with interest.:werd:
PS Wasn't K one of the guys from men in black?

Bingo ... Agent K was Will Smith and Agent J was Tommy Lee Jones.
I hear they are getting 300rwkw out of cammed LS2s ... mmm, a 300rwkw GTS sounds good ... :up2sum:
Completely off topic but anyone that lowers a new GTS needs there head read, I reckon this car has as close to a perfect suspension setup as I have ever felt.
Back on topic ... I want to see a 1:12 in 4th gear only out of this beast Mr X.
Below are the results of Mitta E's first data logging (short-term fuel trims, LTFT's disabled)
Thought we would try narrowband first, but I am flabergasted how close this got on the first attempt; Erik i reckon leave it and move onto the SM-AFR WB straight away, no point trying to get closer based on NB input i reckon.

The "base" tune supplied by Duncan seems to be the goods straight up. Car feels much stronger than bolt-on, right through the rev range. Modest ignition advance to start. Saw a duty cycle of 104% at ~6900rpm whilst logging; reached 100% at ~6400. Funny thing was that I could feel the car run out of puff right about then... didn't want to spin much past that. Injectors are next on hit list. We'll have to look at cold start idle tune on the weekend. Then start with the wideband.
Nick & Troy... "tell 'im he's dreamin'". But Troy, I'm happy to try with you in the pax seat ;).
Love the lope of the cam... more old skool V8. Sounds phat. Idle set at 800rpm at the moment; probably have to up it a little when i get sick of the rock n roll.

The more power and performance bug has really taken a bite Erik......
Nice cam choice. Good luck with the tuning. I am sure you will have a heap of fun and learn a few things along the way. Also a few  will be consumed during all this.
I llok forward to reading the results and seeing your backside trackside.:stick:

Hey Erik, what numbers are you expecting with this first round of mods?
Troy :)
Can't wait to see it Erik, sounds awesome and more importantly, it sounds like you're very happy with it!
Guys - awesome work getting the tune so good on the first go. I think I sorta understand that table..and it looks good!
Erik - I know you retired from the strip a while ago, but will it make a comeback with the newfound power? Even if it's just for a few runs to see what it'll do?
Cheers,
- Febs.

Hey Erik, what numbers are you expecting with this first round of mods?Mitta T, honestly couldn't say. Don't want to hazard a guess. What do cam only cars make? The numbers will only serve to quantify mod gains. I guess Dick's tune (260rwkw bolt-on) should be the baseline. Injectors needed asap. Then can get a bit more serious with the tune.

Even if it's just for a few runs to see what it'll do?Will be hard to get out to wsid due to work. Would be interested in mph though (for hp). If I'm not running for an et, perhaps I can cheat & just run it as is then? No car prep, no tyres etc? Drive in / drive out. Hmm. Not a big window of opportunity available before the heads go on though.
Erik I think around 270 to 275RWK with 690 to 750 NM.
Just my non expert opinion :lmao:
But I think ill go close.
Looking forward to seeing the dyno results after every mod

Jeez Erik, I had no idea you had a 260rwkw bolt-on engine. What is impressive, is that its backed up by your track numbers. Bloody insane.
Looking forward to seeing the numbers at the Dyno day and WSID private day :stick:
Now, back to my meditation....." I must not think of more mods, I must not think of more mods...."
Cheers,
Scott
Scat, I hear ya, no more mods no more mods :lmao:

Don't think I'll be able to do the private day Scat. But since a few people have planted the wsid seed in my head, that little voice in the back of my head is getting louder. Perhaps after each dyno session may have to make time for wsid & try to get track numbers that correspond with dyno numbers. Scared I have forgotten how to race .
